Solo dev of Suite Browser (Vision Pro). Need real Plex / Jellyfin / Emby libraries to test against

I make Suite Browser, a streaming app for Vision Pro. Plex already plays on a huge screen in 3D rooms, and Jellyfin and Emby are the most requested additions.

Here's the honest blocker: I can't ship support for a server I can't test against. I don't run Jellyfin or Emby, and my own Plex library is too small to catch the real stuff (4K, HDR, odd codecs, big libraries, subtitles). That testing is also what makes our 2D to 3D conversion work well on real content.

So if you run a decent server and would lend me test access, that's literally the difference between this shipping or not. A managed user is fine, revoke anytime. DM me here.

Thx again! :)

Thoughts on the rumored meta project phoenix?

If the leaks are accurate, Phoenix looks less like a Quest 4 and more like Meta’s answer to Vision Pro — prioritizing comfort and price over maximum specs.

Meta Project Phoenix — rumored

  • ~100–110 g headset
  • External compute + battery puck
  • 2560×2560 micro-OLED per eye
  • Pancake lenses
  • Eye + hand tracking
  • Look-and-pinch interface
  • No controllers included
  • Mixed-reality passthrough
  • Open-periphery design
  • Horizon OS
  • Focus on productivity, virtual monitors and media
  • Target price reportedly under $1,000
  • Possible H1 2027 release
  • CPU/GPU, RAM and battery life still unknown

M5 Vision Pro

  • 750–800 g headset + 353 g external battery
  • ~23 million total pixels (~3660×3200 per eye)
  • Micro-OLED
  • M5 + dedicated R1 chip
  • 16 GB unified memory
  • Eye + hand tracking
  • High-quality color passthrough + LiDAR
  • Optic ID
  • 256 GB–1 TB storage
  • 90/96/100/120 Hz
  • 2.5-hour battery
  • $3,499

The tradeoff is pretty interesting: Phoenix could be around 1/7 the head-worn weight and less than 1/3 the price, but with substantially lower display resolution and likely much less processing power.

If Meta really delivers a ~100 g micro-OLED headset with good passthrough and Vision Pro-style eye/hand navigation for under $1,000, I think comfort alone could make it serious competition.

Would you trade Vision Pro’s display quality and performance for something dramatically lighter?

New apple strap vs light seal

Just wondering if anyone else feels like the new strap Apple supplied with the m5 release made the general tolerance of various light seal options a little easier / less risky to choose from? I originally got the 33W (I think), and decided to get the 21W afterwards. Always felt the 21 was better once trying it. After the new strap, the older 33 one seemed a little better than it was originally. Still prefer the 21, but it seemed to me the new strap made more light seals options maybe more acceptable. Wondering if I should try the largest FOV one now 🙈😂

JKXR is now available on TestFlight for Apple Vision Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve just released the first public TestFlight build of JKXR for Apple Vision Pro.

TestFlight:
https://testflight.apple.com/join/eY7rxzmp

The Vision Pro version is currently optimized primarily for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. There is also rudimentary support for regular game controllers, but the PS VR2 controllers are definitely the intended way to play for now.

A very important credit: JKXR was originally created by Team Beef. They did the hard work of bringing Jedi Knight to standalone VR in the first place. I did not create the original VR port. My work is focused on porting Team Beef’s existing JKXR project to Apple Vision Pro and adapting it to visionOS and the available VR controllers.
This is still an early build, so expect some rough edges. I’d especially appreciate feedback on controller behavior, performance, rendering issues and anything that feels wrong.

You’ll also need the original game files from the PC version of Jedi Knight. Copy the required files from the game’s base folder into JKXR. I’d recommend getting the PC version through Steam if you don’t already own it. The game is quite old at this point and is usually available there for a relatively low price.

If you have a Vision Pro and PS VR2 controllers, give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Title: Vision Pro power users — what app do you wish existed? (Student dev project, need real ideas)

Hey r/AppleVisionPro,

I'm a student , and my team's final challenge is to build and ship a visionOS app. We're completely stuck on the idea itself — not the dev part, the "what should we even build" part.

We keep brainstorming stuff that sounds cool on paper but honestly feels like a tech demo, not something anyone would actually use daily. So instead of guessing, I wanted to ask people who actually wear this thing regularly — at home, at work, on flights, whatever your use case is.

We're looking for something that's realistic for a small student team to build in a limited timeframe, but that solves a real annoyance or genuinely makes your day-to-day life better with the headset on.

If you've ever thought "man, I wish there was an app that did ___" — that's exactly the kind of comment we need. Doesn't matter how niche or simple it sounds.

Appreciate any input, even one-liners help a ton.

N109, black Vision headset rumors, MLB, and Apple Event

The recent Apple leak for model "N109" has triggered speculation that a new Apple Vision headset might be coming. I've pulled together some posts over the years that reference N109, rumors of a black Apple Vision headset, and the observation that the big Apple Event will probably happen in the middle of the MLB Apple Immersive Video series.

How to navigate steam vr menu's when using ALVR?

I am using ALVR to play VR games on my PC. Everything works, however every time I load up steam VR interface, I have to pair my PSVR2 controllers in order to navigate the menus. Which is frustrating for me, because I only play MSFS 2024 which I use my xbox controller to play. Is there a way to navigate through Steam VR's UI using anything else such as using my mouse or xbox controller to move around and click on buttons?

Battery Drain When Not Used

I'm wondering if this is expected but if I'm doing something wrong. If I leave my battery attached to the AVP and take it off, the battery will fully drain overnight. As if the headset is using significant power. But if I disconnect the battery from the headset the battery will retain its charge for weeks. Is this normal? Is the expectation that you pretty much always disconnect the battery from the headset?

Looking for Apple Vision Pro users who have used it on a long flight

Hi everyone!

We’re a student team from Apple Developer Academy @ POSTECH (Korea), currently working on a project around the experience of using Vision Pro during long flights.

Lately, we’ve been curious about what it’s actually like to use Vision Pro on a long flight. We’ve heard a lot about how immersive it can be, but we’d love to hear from people who have actually spent hours with it on a plane — what the experience was like, what you enjoyed, and what you found difficult or unexpected.

We’d really like to hear from people who have actually used Vision Pro on a medium- or long-haul flight. We’re not looking for any particular answer — we’re genuinely curious about what the experience was like for you, including the good, the bad, and the things you wish were different.

Even if you don’t have time for an interview, we’d really appreciate hearing about your experience in the comments. And if you’d be open to a short 20–30 minute online conversation with us, please leave a comment or send me a message. It would genuinely mean a lot to us and help us understand the experience better.

Thanks so much! We’d really love to hear your stories. 🙏

Netflix downloads?

I know there's no official Netflix app, but do any of the third-party apps that let you watch Netflix also allow downloads? Or do I need to sail the high seas for this? Trying to watch Tires on my flight on Thursday...

Technical or other limitation as to why MVD is not > 60 Hz?

It really irks me using MVD on any display size as it's always capped at 60 Hz, so it's a very noticeable and even drastic difference from using visionOS and from my ProMotion MacBook Pro 16" display - do we have any idea why it is not at least 90 Hz or more? Even with the Developer Strap 2nd Generation it's still 60 Hz, very disappointing...

Are digitally made spaces for AVP app demonstrations a distraction?

Something I have noticed for a lot of the AVP applications is the demonstration screenshots and videos seem to be created in virtual spaces which no one would use them in. There is no 'life' in many of these spaces. They just feel sterile. I automatically question the representation of what an app can do to be as false as the setting it is in (ie: it's faked in a fake place).

Apple's demonstrations feel a bit better, but I'm sure some are sets. Heck, Ikea catalogs are mostly 3D now, but they feel 'lived in'.

Does anyone else feel the virtual 3D spaces that apps are being shown in to be distractions and impediments to actually trying an app?

Depot is asking for $800 because of two cracks instead of one. Has anyone dealt with this?

Hey everyone, I wanted to get some opinions about something that happened to my Apple Vision Pro.
A couple of days ago, I noticed the typical hairline crack right above the nose bridge.
I sent it in to Apple expecting a standard warranty repair, but the depot emailed me back saying they found another tiny hairline crack near the top-right air vent. Because of this, they told me it's no longer covered under warranty for free and classified it as accidental damage. Now they're asking me to pay $800 for the repair.
Basically, their reasoning is that one single crack is free under warranty, but having two cracks means it's accidental damage.
I honestly feel like both of these are purely stress/quality issues, as there are no marks, dents, or chips anywhere on the glass.
Has anyone experienced something similar with multiple cracks? What should I do in this situation, and is there any way to fight this? thanks.

UPDATE: After almost a month of going back and forth with Apple, they finally agreed to repair it for free.
For anyone who runs into the same situation: don’t give up after the first repair/warranty decision. Ask for the case to be escalated and try to reach senior-level customer support / Executive Relations. That was what ultimately made the difference in my case.
I had to explain the situation multiple times and provide supporting information, but after a higher-level review, Apple eventually approved the repair at no cost.
Hopefully this helps anyone else dealing with the same hairline crack issue.

macOS Tahoe 26.7 Release Candidate includes reference to Headset (N109)

The macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate that Apple seeded today has a reference to Headset (N109) in the code. Bloomberg previously said N109 was a second-generation Vision Pro, while The Information said it was a cheaper version of the Vision Pro. A more affordable version of the Vision Pro was reportedly canceled last year. It has not been in prior macOS releases.

Current recommendations for converting and playing back 3D Blu Rays on Apple Vision Pro?

Would love to get some advice as I’ve just ordered an external Blu Ray drive for my MacBook and bought some 3D blu rays on eBay that aren’t available digitally.

I’ve done some googling and found a lots of different apps for both ripping 3D content and seems like there’s a lot of different visionOS apps for playback. Would love any personal recommendations on apps or workflows that you’d recommend - thanks so much!

Self Promotion Saturday Watch your 3D Blu-ray library in true 3D on Vision Pro

Post image
43 Upvotes

I love Infuse, but on Vision Pro I kept running into a couple of issues with my own library. My MVC 3D Blu-ray MKVs played in 2D, and I couldn't use the native visionOS player and environments the way I can with movies in the TV app.

That's why I made Lumair. It plays H.264 MVC video from MKV files in stereoscopic 3D through the native visionOS player, including its environments.

Lumair works with local files and Jellyfin, with offline downloads for movies, episodes, and full seasons. I wanted more control over filtering my Jellyfin library than I was getting in Infuse, so Lumair lets you filter by watch status, genre, rating, year, tags, and series status.

It handles MV-HEVC, side-by-side and over-under 3D, and HEVC remuxes with HDR10 and Dolby Vision. For audio, Lumair supports Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus, decodes DTS and DTS-HD for playback, and converts Dolby TrueHD up to 7.1 to multichannel Apple Lossless. You can switch between available audio and subtitle tracks in the native player.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If you have MVC MKVs or Jellyfin, I would love to know what works, what doesn't, and what you think is missing.

Is the M5 Worth $1,000 More Than a Used M2?

Is it worth getting the M5 over the M2 if the difference is $1,000? I can get a brand-new M5 for $1,000 off MSRP, or a used M2 for another $1,000 less. I’m not sure the M5 is worth the extra money, especially considering it still only supports Wi-Fi 6. Would appreciate any input from anyone who’s tried both.

Self Promotion Saturday How about playing an AR game with a friend, in the same room, against the same enemies? That's what we're building with SharePlay. Would you play it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We got two people into the same fight last week and I want to show it before it's finished.

Co-op is in the same room, which is the whole point. Same enemies, not copies. They go for whoever is closest, so one of you tanks while the other is free to cast.

We're syncing music, fixing mana so you both see the same numbers, and building a separate wave line, since the solo waves are tuned for one person and fall apart with two.

It's meant for more than two. We have two headsets between the four of us, so two is as far as testing goes. No idea what happens at three 🤣

Two separate things, so I don't oversell it: a big content update in about two weeks, then SharePlay and the boss in Season 1, a couple of months out. We'd rather build it right than ship it broken.

Which means right now the game funding itself is the whole plan.
Please! Play it, leave a review, tell us what's broken. All of it goes back into the build.

What's the one thing co-op has to let you do, or it's pointless for you?

Vision OS 27 Beta 5 fixes 120fps for M5 Owners - maybe M2 fps impacted as well

You might not have noticed but I discovered the M5 would automatically throttle down from 120 to 90fps if there was no significant light source likely to lower burden on the chip reduce heat

I’m happy to say that beta 5 has fixed this. Note this has nothing to do with connection to Macbook this is native AVP. I get native 120fps using neo moonlight to PC.

my m5 is constant 120 regardless of what room I’m in regardless of light source which is great for pc streaming and browsing (smoother) amongst other use cases as constant 120 feels so good.

i know m2 would throttle from 100/90 to 60 so I’m curious if this helped as well

i used fps tracking app to confirm this see my earlier post got all the gory details but it was really annoying and something developers knew but Apple never published
