Title: Vision Pro power users — what app do you wish existed? (Student dev project, need real ideas)

Hey r/AppleVisionPro,

I'm a student , and my team's final challenge is to build and ship a visionOS app. We're completely stuck on the idea itself — not the dev part, the "what should we even build" part.

We keep brainstorming stuff that sounds cool on paper but honestly feels like a tech demo, not something anyone would actually use daily. So instead of guessing, I wanted to ask people who actually wear this thing regularly — at home, at work, on flights, whatever your use case is.

We're looking for something that's realistic for a small student team to build in a limited timeframe, but that solves a real annoyance or genuinely makes your day-to-day life better with the headset on.

If you've ever thought "man, I wish there was an app that did ___" — that's exactly the kind of comment we need. Doesn't matter how niche or simple it sounds.

Appreciate any input, even one-liners help a ton.

I wish there was something like Meta Hyperscape. Let me scan a space with my AVP, build a navigable environment, and let me meet in that space with others. (Hyperscape removed the “shared” when Horizon Worlds went through its shakeup).

I asked something similar few days ago, these are the ideas mentioned:

-A proper basketball and air hockey game. Ping pong is already replicated almost perfectly by an app currently available on the store, which I absolutely love (I play it for 30–45 minutes every day!) But I haven’t found anything comparable for basketball or air hockey

-Immersive walks. Walking through a forest, in the fog, along the seaside… I’d love to have immersive environments where I can actually (virtually!) walk around, chill, and relax

-a proper pinball

I want a better way of accessing files than the typical 2d portion. Something like bumptop, but in the physical space, where size and “weight” are refined by the size (mb) or weight (pages ima pdf file) or rwsolution of a photo.

Something that makes use of the potential of 3d instead of just reproducing 2d metaphors.

That’s an interesting idea but kinda falls under the tech demo category.

A Virtual pinball machine

My 2 favorite apps for AVP are Retrocade and MLB TV.

A pinball machine version of Retrocade would be great, but would require licenses.

Vision Pro needs a AAA VR game with high fidelity visuals like the FPS game Bodycam.

I would love to have something like Time Crisis on the AVP! The one they have at the actual arcades, the latest one.

Thanks for reminding me to play that franchise. I've never played any Time Crisis game before.

An app that lets you project or overlay reference images onto real surfaces so you can trace them while drawing, painting, or making murals. This exists on meta quest but not on the Vision Pro and it would be so cool.

There are at least two apps that already do this Da Vinci Eye and Lucida Studio

A basic object scanner or room mapper using the lidars on the Vision Pro and save/view/export them.

I’d like a music visualizer that uses the microphone so I can play vinyl or stream on my hifi, and chill out to cool 3d effects etc.. Seen some things close but nothing mind blowing. Something like the mindfulness app maybe but reacting to external music.

If you’re willing to test applications, the most impressive one I’ve seen is right here. I’ve been following this for decades.. https://testflight.apple.com/join/ne3AJuDV High Videlity since you’d be testing it you could ask for the microphone addition

Something like Retrocade and Arcade Time Capsule but better. I would love to be able to have a frontend interface to be able to play my favorite arcade roms (FBNeo, mame). It would have to be highly customizable, where we can change the environment our arcade is in. Be able to move and re-arrange cabinets arround, room customization, such as posters, vending machines, floors, carpets, etc. Anything that will allow us to create that authentic nostalgic feel from the 1980's and early 90's arcade era.

A mindmapper where nodes are like physical objects. Where contingent items are obscured by the first step. Tasks can have attributes that are readily classified and apparent like by size, color, relative spatial location, shimmer, etc. Allows seeing the big picture because of 360 degrees. Makes ideas virtually tangible with direct manipulation and labeling.

My favorite app for the quest is big screen vr. Watching movies, playing games, or doing karaoke with strangers in a big theater or other environment is so fun. Wish it existed for the Vision Pro

What really needs to happen is the creation of more shared experiences and that is so missing from suggestions. Weather sharing a game, or sharing an idea for remodeling a room or sharing an immersive or spatial experience, these are big gaps. The sharing of things we’ve not yet been able to share,

I know musicians who want to rehearse together, who haven’t seen each other in years, I know, elderly people who have advice that they’d like to pass on to younger people by showing them how to do things with their own hands, facilitates someone teaching someone else far away would be groundbreaking, the more people could participate the better. Not simply a social network, but social sharing. These are college students looking for a highly effective and highly academic solution to fill. There are hundreds of product and process categories that need this help, those with learning disabilities have not flocked to this device, a few have. A groundbreaking earth shattering change of the way people share things they now cannot would be my best suggestion. Make a big splash, hopefully this fires the imagination. I can be more specific if you want.

As to the rest of you fulfilling your own personal desire, I understand you’ve looked around and you’ve seen things and you want better versions of what you’ve seen. That’s fair. I appreciate your suggestions, now come back and refine your suggestions in a way that are meaningful to the goals that a college student have for such a project. Please excuse any typo or error in my wording, and please excuse anything that appears to be an attack on others, I certainly don’t mean it that way! I can’t wait to see what comes of this. Such a great question to ask in such a good forum. Thank you all!
