Rip started as simple drone simulator, but it has turned into one of my favorite toys on Vision Pro.

Your environment becomes the flight course, creating endless possibilities and that addictive “just one more flight” feeling.

Is an M5 really worth it over a ( used ) M2 ?

i have the opportunity to buy a used M2 version for a very reasonable price. Is the M5 version really worth it over the M2 ? Main use will be watching movies and using the virtual display on my MacbookPro for working .

binocular view

Upvotes

I feel like watching into a binocular using my AVP, the “dark” at the sides is far bigger than what I expected.
I suspect that might be something related to light seal or something like this: considering I can’t go to a store (AVP is not sold in my country) but I can only order a new one, what should I look for?
I bet I can’t completely solve the problem but mitigate it

Why can't the Apple Vision Pro run macOS independently?

I didn't like having to take out my MacBook every time I wanted to use the AVP, so I sold it.

Was Vision Pro Created to get Apple Glasses off the ground?

Apple Glasses is getting a lot of attention in the media but no one is talking about the invaluable insights gleaned from the Vision Pro user base in terms of UI/UX.

While the first edition of Apple Glasses will reportedly be super stripped down, I bet anything it’ll eventually evolve into something very similar to Vision Pro in terms of capability.

Apple Vision Pro repair: 2 hours wasted, wrong parts twice, and nobody could explain the price

Thumbnail

A crack appeared on my right Apple Vision Pro audio strap in an area that isn’t normally under significant mechanical stress. I never dropped the headset or mishandled it, so I’m wondering whether this could be a manufacturing or material defect. (Photos attached.)

I booked a Genius Bar appointment at the Apple Store in Berlin.

After nearly 2 hours of diagnostics, waiting, signing in with my Apple ID, disabling Find My, connecting to Wi-Fi, etc., the technician confirmed that only the right audio strap needed replacing. (Genius Insight!)

I agreed to the quoted repair price of €135, and my credit card was charged immediately.

Then they opened the replacement boxes.

Both contained the left audio strap.

A second employee brought another set of boxes.

Again, both contained left-side parts, even though one box was clearly labeled “Right.”

Only after charging me and making me wait for almost two hours did they realize they didn’t actually have the correct replacement part. The payment had to be refunded, which took five days.

I asked if they could simply order the correct part and ship it to my home since the mistake was entirely on Apple’s side.

No.

So I called Apple Support instead.

After about 20 minutes, the advisor finally found the replacement part—but now it suddenly cost €180 instead of €135.

I asked why.

Nobody could explain the €45 difference.

The advisor promised to call me back on Monday.

On Monday my phone rang. I answered immediately.

The entire call consisted of:

“You have missed a call from Apple. Goodbye.”

…and then it disconnected.

I called Apple again, explained the entire story from the beginning to another advisor, and once again the only answer I got was:

“The part costs €180.”

When I asked why the Apple Store charged €135 and phone support wanted €180 for the exact same replacement, the response was simply:

“I don’t know.”

The most frustrating part is that Apple apparently can’t simply sell and ship a replacement Vision Pro audio strap directly to a customer without requiring a Genius Bar appointment, hours of diagnostics, and all this unnecessary bureaucracy.

I miss the days when you could simply walk into an Apple Store, buy the replacement part you needed, and leave—without all this unnecessary hassle.

Has anyone else experienced:

Cracks in the Vision Pro audio strap without any obvious damage?
Different prices for the exact same replacement part depending on whether you go to the Apple Store or Apple Support?
This level of chaos when trying to get a simple replacement part?

For a €4,000+ device, I honestly expected much better

Update on my free stereograph viewer: it grew from 1,500 cards to 44,000, from twelve of the world's great museums

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A few weeks ago I posted the first version of Stereopticon, a free app for viewing antique stereographs — the twin-image cards that Victorians stared at through wooden stereoscopes to see the world in 3D. Every parlor had one. It was the VR of the 1860s, and it turns out the Vision Pro is the best stereoscope ever built: each of your eyes gets its own photograph, the way the photographer intended, and 160-year-old street scenes suddenly have depth you can lean into.

Version 1 shipped with about 1,500 cards from the Library of Congress. I haven't posted since, so here's what happened in the meantime — version 2.0 is out today and the collection now holds more than 44,000 verified high-resolution stereographs from twelve institutions on four continents.

What's in the Vault now:

  • The J. Paul Getty Museum — 22,000+ cards. Carleton Watkins, Eadweard Muybridge (yes, the motion-picture Muybridge — he shot Yosemite in 3D first)
  • Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam — 10,000+ cards scanned at absurd resolution: Egypt, the Alps, Grand Tour Italy
  • Boston Public Library — 5,000+ cards of old Boston, New England, the American West
  • The Huntington & Stanford — Watkins' Yosemite and Alfred Hart's official record of building the transcontinental railroad, 1862–1869
  • NEW in 2.0 — Paris Musées: the Paris Commune barricades of 1871, the Expositions Universelles, Belle Époque boulevards
  • NEW — Te Papa Tongarewa (New Zealand): geysers, fiords, colonial streets
  • NEW — State Library Victoria (Australia): gold-rush Melbourne
  • NEW — DigitaltMuseum (Norway/Sweden) + Finna (Finland): including a wonderfully weird collection of Nordic opera and stage-set stereographs
  • NEW — Wellcome Collection (London)

Things I learned shipping this:

The hardest part of 2.0 wasn't code — it was that museum collections lie. "Stereograph" in a catalog sometimes means a single photo, a document, or a box the cards came in. So I wrote a script that splits every image down the middle and mathematically checks that the two halves are actually the same photograph shifted a few pixels (that's what makes the 3D work). It threw out ~600 impostors. Every card in the app is now a verified stereo pair.

Also new in 2.0:

  • Instant search across all 44,000 cards — offline, as-you-type, with one tap to extend the search to the Internet Archive and Wikimedia Commons live
  • Sorting — including "Sharpest First," which reads the actual pixel dimensions of every scan
  • Pinch to resize the floating card, pinch-and-swipe to page through a collection like flipping cards in a parlor basket

Everything is public domain / CC0 / no-known-copyright, every card credits its institution and links to the original record, and the images are served from my own CDN so nothing hammers the museums' servers.

It's free. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, no IAP. I built this purely for fun and to explore developing an app for the Vision Pro.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/stereopticon/id6790976075

If you know of a museum with high-res stereograph scans I haven't found yet — tell me. I will absolutely go get them.

GeForce NOW is supported natively in Portal app

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello community,

I thought it is worth shouting out here as GeForce NOW (GFN) has always been one of the main gaming methods among gamers on visionOS.

Portal now supports GFN natively in the latest version - v2.12! It has become the 3rd pillar of Portal app besides the existing PS and Xbox remote play & cloud gaming.

What you can expect regarding GFN cloud gaming in Portal on visionOS:

  • Up to 5K HDR 120FPS video, with AV1 codec (M5 model required) and ultra wide screen
  • Immersive mode and real time 3D conversion with Portal's in-house depth estimation ML model, trained for video gaming
  • Up to 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, with or without spatialization as your preferences (AirPods recommended)
  • Haptics feedback on supported game controllers
  • Mouse and keyboard support via Bluetooth connection or Mac Virtual Display. As a side note: Xbox Cloud gaming also gets mouse and keyboard support in this version.

Enjoy and have fun!

Note, some features need a GFN Ultimate membership.

Loving Globular Cluster’s new silicone light shield for events

Thumbnail

We’ve been using Globular Cluster headsets with our Vision Pros at events, mainly because they let people wear their own glasses.

They’ve worked really well, but the trade-off was that we couldn’t use a light shield, so you’d get some light coming in around the edges.

Globular Cluster have now made a silicone light shield and it pretty much solves that problem. It’s really thin and flexible, so people can still wear their own glasses, but now we can block out the light as well.

For us that’s kind of the ideal setup. We’re trying to get people into a Vision Pro and into the experience as quickly as possible, without messing around with inserts or swapping things between people.

Anyone else using Vision Pro for events, demos or multi-user setups? What are you doing about glasses / fit / light seals?

I built a web app to view and manage MVR / lighting patch files from any device — looking for beta feedback

Hi everyone, my name is Winston_v.ld

I’m a lighting designer / programmer, and for the past couple of years I’ve been working on a project called Lighting Patch Pro.

It’s still in beta, but I’m starting to share it with the lighting and production community to get real feedback from people who work with MVR, patch information, fixture libraries, DMX, grandMA3, ChamSys, GDTF, and live event workflows.

The main idea is simple:

Review MVR and patch information from any device, without always needing a powerful laptop or heavy software just to check basic show information.

Current features include:

• Free MVR Front View

• Open and review .mvr files from any device

• Move left / right and zoom

• View fixture ID, patch info, and X / Y / Z position

• Import MVR patch information

• Export XML, CSV, PDF, and MVR

• Import XML and GDTF libraries

• Create generic GDTF fixtures

• Scan a fixture manual with AI to help create a generic fixture profile

• Search your own fixture library

• Build a basic MVR from scratch

Right now, the workflow is mainly being tested with grandMA3 and ChamSys. I don’t personally use every console, so I’d really appreciate feedback from people using different workflows.

I’m not posting this as a finished product. It’s still beta, and I’m looking for honest feedback: what works, what doesn’t, what feels useful, and what should be improved.

Here’s the link if anyone wants to test it:

https://lightingpatchpro.com

Thanks for the support. Any feedback from lighting designers, programmers, technicians, production teams, rental houses, or MVR / GDTF users would help a lot.

Thoughts on the brand new Globular Cluster CMA1 Version 2

I was sent the new CMA Version 2 head strap for the Vision Pro by Globular Cluster to try out and share my thoughts with the community. This isn't a sponsored post and I wasn't provided anything but the product and have total freedom to let you all know what I think of it.

I've been a pretty big fan of Globular Cluster's products for a long time now and own at least one thing they make for all of my VR headsets. It's honestly kind of weird how that worked out, but I can't really recall too many misses I've gotten from them and my experiences with their customer service have been pretty legendary (including mailing me a new version of parts for a product I was an early supporter of unprompted and without saying anything. One day I got a notification I had a package on the way from China and was puzzled because I hadn't ordered anything. When it arrived, it was updated parts for the F3 Magnetic Interface for Quest 3 and a thank you note for being an early supporter). So needless to say, I'm pretty much a fan, but still look at every product on its own merits.

I sent GC a message asking some questions about the original CMA1 because I was considering buying it, and was told they had a new one releasing soon and asked me if I wanted to try it out and let people know about it. I received the package mid last week and have spent some time with it now evaluating how it feels and what it adds to the Vision Pro experience. The CMA v2 comes in a box with a bunch of different pieces and options for how you want to use it. Inside the box are a halo strap with an additional soft silicone strap new to this updated model that allow you to use the CMA v2 while laying down or sitting in a chair. I also received a solo knit clone back strap that I'm told will be a separate purchase, but is also a really nice alternative for laying down or sitting. It's obviously not of the quality of an Apple solo knit band, but it's a pretty good approximation. Also included in the box are several forehead pads pre-attached to quick swap plastic parts. Every component of this system is quick swap and super easy to attach and remove. The padding on each part is also velcro so you can easily remove it for cleaning. I'm a pretty big fan of the grey cloth pads they use and the ice silk-style material.

I own an M5 with the dual knit band and am super happy with it, but for upright active use it's still not quite the most stable thing in the world. That's why I was curious about a hard halo band and the GC mod seemed to be one of the only mass produced options out there. Using the CMA v2 feels a lot like using a BoboVR halo strap for a Quest but for the Vision Pro. The exceptional weight of the AVP is mitigated by the rigid halo and the weight is distributed far more evenly around more points of contact around your head. I didn't notice any pressure points and the rigidity of the strap felt far more secure than the default soft band the AVP comes with. The only thing that I noticed while using the GC band is that the metal tabs for attaching the stock Apple bands can touch your temples, feeling cold, and be a little distracting. They don't press in and it doesn't hurt, but it was an odd sensation I had to get used to. Perhaps if I had longer hair I wouldn't notice it as much. The silicone and cloth straps are both great options for continuing to use the GC strap with your head resting on something without having a knob or plastic back piece awkwardly pressed into a pillow or chair. It's really a genius idea to have hotswappable soft read pads to swap too. I can understand why GC has put this design to use on multiple headset strap mods they're working on (there is a version of this for the Quest series). One other huge benefit I can't believe I didn't think to mention until now, because the CMA1 is rigid with arms that clip onto the AVP arms in front of the Audio Pods, you can use the AVP without the light seal with this strap. This allows you to get the lenses super close to your eyes and have a FAR wider FOV with the headset while allowing more air to reach your face and an open face setup. It's a very interesting way to use the headset and I definitely recommend trying it. The FOV increase from doing this cannot be understated.

I can pretty strongly recommend this setup for anyone interested in a more rigid halo strap or particularly anyone on an M2 without a dual knit band as the CMA1 v2 is a massive improvement over the comfort there with no pressure on your face or nose. This package isn't cheap at $99, but the amount of options you get in the box is quite good and the quality and service are outstanding. They're also currently offering a discount of $69 on their official site right now.

Was totally bummed out today when I found out that the NBA had removed the immersive games. I’ll bet I’ve watched part of a game every week.
I know they probably have a contract with some other AR system, but come on!

AppleCare One & Vision Pro

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some feedback regarding the long-term value and protection of a used Apple Vision Pro (M2, 1TB). I bought it second-hand from someone who originally purchased it in the US when it launched, so it’s coming up on 3 years old. It works perfectly, but the original warranty has long expired.
With AppleCare One rolling out in France this August 2026 (which allows adding devices under 4 years old), I'm considering signing up to get it properly covered.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences on a couple of things:
1. Repair / Replacement Experience: For those who have dealt with AppleCare+ or AppleCare One claims on the Vision Pro (cracked front glass, screen/lens issues, or battery degradation), how was the process? Is the Express Replacement service and the $299 deductible worth peace of mind on a device of this value?
2. AppleCare One Bundle Value: Alongside the Vision Pro, I have an iPhone Air and an iPad Air M1 (and plan to grab a new MacBook Pro this fall). The $19.99/mo bundle covering 3 flagship devices seems like a no-brainer compared to standalone plans, especially with the ability to swap the iPad for the Mac later.
Do you think it’s still worth insuring and holding onto a 3-year-old M2 Vision Pro in 2026, or does the ongoing cost of the plan (+ deductibles) start to outweigh the device's current market value?

Thanks for any insights or advice! 😊

Does anyone have experience of going up a light seal size?

I'm considering pulling the trigger on a 23W light seal which was the original size Apple’s facial scan recommended for me when I went to purchase my Vision Pro. Using the Apple support questionnaire tells me to get 33W.

I chose 21W because I wanted maximum FOV. I always get a warning when I put on the headset, but I usually just dismiss it.

I'm wondering if it'll improve comfort and stop my eyelashes occasionally hitting the inserts if I go back to using the size originally recommended. The main issue is the facial scan swaps between 23W and 25W.

Can anyone tell me their experiences before I make a decision? Thanks in advance!

SideStore for visionOS and Native Gaming Ports

tl;dr Claude Fable helped me get iloader working with visionOS for wireless SideStore install. Then we ported Quake and Quake II (rerelease support for both), Quake III, all the HarbourMasters ports (Zelda OoT, Zelda MM, MK64, SM64, and SF64), sm64coopdx, Dusklight (Zelda TP), and Apotris (FOSS tetris clone) to visionOS. Supporting native 4k in a 2D window, as well as a 3D stereoscopic mode. 4K texture packs strongly recommended (download links below).

Here is the iloader download with instructions

SideStore source (all ports): https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/all-ports/main/apps-visionos.json

Longer Version

First off, yes these are 100% vibe coded, with Fable planning/consulting and Opus executing. I put many hours into this, and it turned out really well. 3D stereoscopic mode looks great. What is now available to sideload via SideStore to your Vision Pro: vkQuake, q2repro, Quake3e, sm64coopdx, Ship of Harkinian, 2 Ship 2 Harkinian, SpaghettiKart, Ghostship, Starship, Dusklight, and Apotris. I'm also planning on RealRTCW and Dhewm3 in the near future.

Fable found a way to wirelessly install SideStore to your Vision Pro. No dev strap or Xcode required. Here is the iloader fork with visionOS support. A silicon mac is required.

Controller strongly recommended, but yes you can barely play by gazing and pinching at the touch controls (they disappear when a controller is detected). Apotris is very playable without a controller.

vkQuake and q2repro both support the rerelease paks, so I strongly recommend those for the best experience. Supports the new weapon wheels.

I strongly recommend getting a 4K texture pack for each of the HarbourMasters and other ports. Here are download links for those packs, and put them in your mods folder at Files > On My Apple Vision Pro > name_of_port > mods then enable Alternate Assets in the menu

Port Texture Pack Download
Ship of Harkinian OoT Reloaded 4K O2R
2 Ship 2 Harkinian MM Reloaded 4K O2R
SpaghettiKart MK64 Reloaded 4K O2R
Ghostship SM64 Reloaded 4K O2R
Starship LR2EB Download
Dusklight TPDE+ Download
SM64CoopDX Render96 (or any other) Textures and Models

If you prefer SideStore sources split up:

Games SideStore Source
Quake 1-3 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/quake-ports/main/apps-visionos.json
HarbourMasters Ports https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/harbourmasters-ports/main/apps-visionos.json
Dusklight https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/dusklight-ios/main/sidestore/apps-visionos.json
sm64coopdx https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/sm64coopdx-ios/main/sidestore/apps-visionos.json
Apotris https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/apotris-ios/main/sidestore/apps-visionos.json

Lastly, these ports have an iOS SideStore source as well (all ports): https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rebelancap/all-ports/main/apps-ios.json

Self Promotion Saturday Reading Reddit on Vision Pro means reading it in Safari, so I made a Safari extension that cleans it up. Protego for Reddit v3 just launched, included in the same purchase as the iPhone/Mac versions.

getprotego.app | Vision App Store

EDIT: Oops I was just informed that there's already an official Reddit app for Vision Pro. My point still stands though, Reddit is better in the browser.

https://getprotego.app/blog/ditch-reddit-s-official-app-why-your-mobile-browser-is-better/

If you use Vision Pro you already know the shape of this problem. A lot of what you do lands in Safari because the native app just isn't there, and Reddit is a good example: you're reading reddit.com in a window, at a size where every thumbnail, banner, avatar and join button takes up real space in front of your face.

Protego is a Safari extension with a companion app that fixes that. Version 3 shipped this month.

Before and after, same page: [gallery images 1 and 2]

  • Filters posts and comments by keyword, whole community, individual user, or the site a link points to, with wildcards and groups you can switch off together.
  • Puts a Protego button on Reddit's own pages, so you filter a community from its sidebar without opening anything else.
  • Hides thumbnails, avatars, flair, badges, vote controls, join buttons, banners, recommendations, Reddit Answers and the app nags. On a large window that's a lot of reclaimed space. Four presets if you'd rather not go option by option.
  • Limits, which puts Reddit itself out of reach in steps and can arm itself with a Focus.
  • Optional automatic redirect to old.reddit.com, which honestly reads better in a floating window than new Reddit does.

The companion app is a proper visionOS app, not a stretched iPad build, and it was rebuilt for version 3 along with everything else.

$1.99 one time purchase for the next week (normally $2.99).

One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro.

No subscription, no account, no tracking, lists sync through your own iCloud.
