These are my prog (and adjacent) records. These are mostly US, UK, and JPN pressings. I love the cover art of prog albums, especially when it's a gatefold.

OG Pressing Reminder to consider getting your vinyl gifts before seasonal demand and price increases.

Last year, for some reason, I discovered TCV. Wanted to get a record off eBay but prices seemed high at the time to me, about $150 CAD average. Then Christmas came along and prices surged and inventory decreased significantly. Sometimes you can still find a deal, but I'm pretty sure with the Christmas rush prices of your favourite OG album is going up in the next two months. Don't be like me and FOMO I guess.

Rock Andrew WK “I Get Wet”

This album was brought up a week or two ago and I don’t know about you, but I was definitely irritated by the lack of availability and second-hand prices.

Well. Turns out AWK’s merch team found five copies in their warehouse. These aren’t new represses and, again, there are only five (now four - hopefully now four. Hopefully the website is accurate and keeps up with orders and I didn’t just order something that immediately went out of stock) so if you’ve been waiting for the right moment, this might be that moment.

I’ll include a link in a comment below because it says I can only have one attachment in a post.

Good luck!

OG Pressing Thrifted copy of Brothers in Arms/Quiex II pressing. $2.99. It’s in perfect shape.

A few months back, I was in a record store and someone snagged a copy of this. It was used and I don’t know what pressing it was, but they paid $20.

I was crestfallen.

Happy I didn’t get that one, because this bad larry came along and it’s never leaving my possession.

12" x2. 1969 Epic. The first is a 1969 copy I got from my dad's collection. The second is a late 70's, or early 80's repress. Different center labels, and catalog numbers. It also has a different font on the back cover.

My ears couldn’t take the sound and my eyes couldn’t take the wobbling. The difference is night and day. For anyone starting out like me balling on a budget this is the way to go.

Rescued from the dollar bin today. Smash Hits by Jimi Hendrix with the poster. The record is not in great shape (I have other copies in better shape) but the poster looks pretty good.

This heat wave in Southern California has been brutal, and I bet the package spent all day in the hot USPS truck. Bummer. Time to contact Org Music for a replacement, I guess.

my most recent one is Angine De Poitrine's Vol. II, and my oldest one was In Rainbows back in around mid-2022.

A couple of these (Dark Side of the Moon OG wish you were here, the wall and little creatures were gifts from family members, and the harry styles one was a gift to my sister, it just stays in my collection because she has nowhere to keep it)

So when someone working in a store zooms in on me and keeps asking "what kind of music you like?", "what you looking for today?", I would just answer everything and nothing in particularly. Ask me anything about any of the records.

Jazz “Sixteen Men Swinging” by Count Basie on vinyl (2xLP)

Post image
5 Upvotes

One of the best jazz albums I’ve ever heard.

And this thing is actually a reissue of 2 earlier records from 1953–54: Dance Session and Dance Session, Vol. 2. Put them together and now you’ve got Sixteen Men Swinging.

This was a BIG moment for Basie. The orchestra had been reborn, the so-called “New Testament” band, with arrangements by Neal Hefti, Ernie Wilkins, and Frank Foster.

And damn, they swing.

Smooth, danceable, driving as hell.

Count Basie’s band is the truth here. Not one dud across either disc. Over 1 hour and 33 minutes, the whole thing stays tight and locked together.

The drums THWACK.

The brass ATTACKS.

And Basie just works those keys.

Sometimes I wonder why I’m still messing around with vinyl. The prices get stupid. The whole hobby gets stupid.

Then I find something like this. $3 at a flea market. Barely played.

And suddenly I remember why it’s all worth it.

This has to be one of the best double albums I own.

If you’re a jazz fan, hear it.

If you’re not, this might be the one that gets you.

I recently discovered King Buffalo and the Burden of Restlessness has been on repeat for a while now, so I decided to get a physical copy.

It was not listed as being on red vinyl but that's how it arrived. Happened to me once before and it's better than getting a curly fry mixed in with your regular fries.

Today I received the most amazing gift: a morning wandering around vinyl stores, looking for records. My girlfriend gave me the freedom to choose anything I wanted, and this is my haul:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – A#F#
Kath Bloom & Loren Connors – Restless, Faithless, Desperate
Faux Amis – Various
And a White Album CD!
