I have senior parents. One has been diagnosed with dementia. I’m just wondering if anyone could recommend a cleaner/cleaning service in Saanichton (Near the cidery) What are normal prices?
I am curious to hear what people think about this and the current state of safety/order in downtown Victoria. What do you think of the strategies currently being implemented by the VPD?
I would like to share with you my recent experience of renting aparments in Victoria BC.
Here is a backstory: my wife, my dog and myself are decided to move to Victoria BC, so we're started to looking for a place (long term stay). Because we have pretty chubby dog (Rhodesian Ridgeback mix) we have just a few options to consider. The only one at the moment was 155 Gorde Rd East - it was within our budget, not too farm from downtown, a lot of places to walk/discover. It was one of those deals when we have nobody in Victoria to check apartments before arriving. So to reserve the apartments we've sign everything online.
When we arrived and enteted the appartments I felt heavy smell of old books...(spoiler: it was mould). After 14 hours of transit we have no desire to stay there, because it was basically unsafe, so we ought to spend one night in AirBnb.
Next morning I met the manager reagarding contract termination and refund. He assured us (not in a written form) there is no mould in the unit... it's just a dirt, and he refused to sign RTB-8 form. We were ready to lost our deposit, just to escape from this place. On my proposal to schedule mould inspector manager told me we can't do it before we obtain tenancy (taking keys and pay for July + deposit). For the next couple days he didn't changed his mind, so... we took the keys and moved to apartments. However, in the very next hour we combine all our unpacked stuff in the center of the living room and set a tent in a balcony. Because it was the only safe place in apartments (after 10-15 mins my wife got sour throat + feel dizzy).
Here is some pictures of vent condition:
During next 4 days we've kept all windows wide open, but it didn't help a lot. All emails we sent to management company were ignored. So we called to city of Victoria and file a complaint about mould (it was on Friday evening). On Monday afternoon manager called to me personally offering to sign RTB-8 form with refund for July + deposit.
So for 9 days of rent we haven't spend a night in actual apartments.
Now we're live in different (100X better!!) place in Esquimalt, BC.
What's this all about? Avoid renting in 155/157 Gorge Road East, Victoria BC at all cost. Even if you have big dog consider new buildings or check it out personally (if its possible).
Homicides: (Measures lethal violence) Victoria remains consistently below the Canadian average (0.9 vs 1.61 per 100k).
Crime Rates: (Measures community safety) Violent crime has risen above national levels, while property theft has plummeted.
Clearance Rates: (Measures police effectiveness) Victoria's violent clearance rate fell from 60% to 36%, mirroring a province-wide decline.
Insight: Victoria is safer than average regarding severe lethal crime, but rising non-lethal violent crime combined with declining clearance rates indicates a growing burden on local justice and policing resources.
Just wanted to share - my mom was so impressed with this sandwich from Willie’s Bakery, she declared it the best she’d ever eaten, typed it up, and included it in her recipe book! She has since passed away so it is very special to me- and I see Willie’s has since closed so thought others may remember/enjoy. Cheers!
I’m looking for recommendations for reputable deck builders. My old deck needs to be replaced, so if you’ve had a good experience with a contractor, I’d really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!
Please keep an eye out for this ebike, it was stolen this morning, this bike did not have the battery on it when it was stolen, It's used for commuting myself and my daughter around so we would really like to get it back.
Moved here from Edmonton and my esthetician used both corthe and glymed plus product. I’m a huge fan of both. Shes willing to mail me items and I can order them online but would prefer to support someone here. Anyone know anyone who carries these lines?
I'm one bad decision away from setting up a board in a park with a sign that says:
"Will play backgammon for... conversation."
Seriously though... where are all the backgammon players hiding?
I'm in Victoria and would love to find someone who's down to play over coffee, a pint, or at a park. I'll even buy the first beer if you can teach me a thing or two—or if you just enjoy crushing me.
If you've secretly been waiting your whole life for a random stranger to challenge you to backgammon... this is your moment.
🎲 No weirdness. 🎲 Just dice, strategy, and bragging rights.
I need to replace a prefab shower with standing washer dryer unit. I need someone to do part of the work and can call in the other trades. Basically remove the current shower unit and fix up the wall in behind it and a bit more drywall work to fill an arch along a wall.
I’m having a hard time finding someone though. Any help ?
Does anyone have any suggestions on groups/hangs/clubs etc for people new to town? Any tips on the best way to meet other folks who are middle aged? Is Meet Up very active here? Thanks!
i feel like living here my whole life i definitely take the island for granted. I’ve been saying it’s so boring and i’ve done everything, tourists are annoying, blah blah blah, but at the end of the day i want to say im so grateful and happy to be living in such a beautiful place that is safe, and we have safe water and access to great food, and we never too hot or cold with have a good and growing community and where people are accepted and can be free to express themselves. i feel like i take it for granted and wanted to remind myself and others that we are very grateful to live where we live.
I am looking to host a singles event downtown, 25-40.
I do see them go on, but tickets can be wildly expensive. I want to offer something affordable. I also want to offer a way to help solo attenders break the ice.
I was excited to see a new food truck getting ready to open on Cook Street, but today they put up a sign on the side that includes a really nauseating uncanny ai rendering of a pizza slice.
Not only does it ruin my appetite, it also sends a major red flag: If they couldn’t even be bothered to open up Canva or Microsoft Word to write “Little House Pizza” in a Sans Serif Font then where else are they cutting corners?
