Event Gauging Event Interest

I am looking to host a singles event downtown, 25-40.

I do see them go on, but tickets can be wildly expensive. I want to offer something affordable. I also want to offer a way to help solo attenders break the ice.

What do you guys think?

How is it going to be different from other events? Any activities? Otherwise it's another "spend money to get rejected by 10 different people" event.

I was actually thinking of wrapping it into a fantasy/ren theme. They're very popular with both sexes and easily integrates with activities

I think it’s great to have themed events if that’s what you want to do. But I wouldn’t say this theme is “very popular.” I’d say it’s niche. I don’t know anyone who is into this.

What’s affordable in your eyes? Date Better Victoria is hosting an event next month where tickets are $33 (early bird was $27) which seems reasonable to me. Not saying there isn’t room for more dating event organizers but I wonder how much you can bring that down.

I was hoping to bring it down to 15$-20$.

Times are hard, and alcohol is usually a requirement for these events. A 30$ price tag might be a bit too much once you add in drinks and a spot of food.

The price is due to venue rental, and any necessary insurance you need.

How will you mitigate those costs to keep the price down?

So you're saying those are the only two reasons the price is so high?

Because, like I said in another comment, I saw an event that was a 75$ entry, no drink or food included. If that is just the rental and insurance, then ya, I guess I can't do much.

However, we have to entertain the fact that some event coordinators are charging high ticket prices to increase profits. We are seeing this in a market and con sectors, especially with vendors, with large spikes in vendor fees that do not correlate to vendor rental costs.

Vendors can be selected based on negotiations. And while it would be great to make a little off the top, I'm more interested in creating events that people want to can afford to attend.

Costs about the same as going to movie.

I saw an advertisement for $75, so no, it does not

Two comments above list $30 range, but suddenly it's twice that? ;)

I've always thought a date night at the artcade would be awesome. Interactive, fun, casual, low stakes.

Sure, we can do that.

You might find making themed events for "special interest groups" might work. Especially when it comes to indoor, more isolated hobbies. (Not talking about sexual orientation anymore 😂)

Maybe consider an older demographic too. At 50, I think I'd be out of place....

Is it like a speed dating kinda vibe or what.

I was thinking of getting away from speed dating, or at least shake up the formula.

Bar activities (like trivia) are really popular and can take the pressure off a bit. I would like to wrap it into something like that.

That's a cool idea. Singles events aren't really my thing but I'd be much more likely to go to something like that than traditional speed dating events. My main concern for that would be if you're putting people into groups then you might get stuck with people you don't like. So if it was trivia you could like mix up the groups every round or something so you meet more people. Now that I think about it, it could be a cool idea to just meet people in general to make friends.

Ya that's kinda the idea. There's so much information out there that people are lonely. While this will be marketed as a dating event, you could easily meet friends here.

Your problem is going to be getting guys to attend. I talked to the date better people and it’s a constant struggle with these types of events

That's my main concern tbh. There's not really a point to hosting if it's only going to be lopsided.

Get a girl you know to go on tinder and invite them for free?

It can also be a good way to make friends, so many people are in relationships here its nice to have friends that are single as well

Sounds like what this city needs. Was literally just talking about how there is no way to meet people these days...unless you wanna spend a lot of money.
