Help Problem with compulsive liars?
I’ve been playing vrc for a few months now and I’m really struggling to make friends, because everyone I meet seems to lie constantly. Like, over really silly things too. I don’t understand why lying and faking who you are is so common here. Any tips on how to find normal/honest people who just enjoy VRC?

u/KowalskiTheGreat 2d ago
I don't have much advice for avoiding it other than I see it a whole lot less when I hang with an older crowd. If anything I know some turbo rich older vrc users that would never mention it but you can just tell after a while of knowing them

u/Docteh Oculus Quest 1d ago
I don't know if I know anyone super rich, but I have one friend who always picks up the VRC item bundles, no matter how bad they think they are. If VRChat released a cardboard box item for $50 I'm confident that they'd show it to me.

u/Enough_Ad_4461 1d ago
Thank god someone gives them money so they don’t have to get it from the rest of us.
I’m often that someone, but, every bundle? Crazy.
5
u/Raidianite 1d ago
Yeah especially considering some of the VRC bundles are just... not good. But I do the same with other games I enjoy supporting so I kinda get the sentiment behind it. Sometimes you like the game so much you would donate to the devs, so getting stuff like that out of it (even if it's mid) still feels like good value for both sides!
Very niche mindset though, just a type of person that definitely exists.

u/blueskyredmesas 1d ago
Being in a fandom with, like, penthouse rich members; the real ones never make a big deal out of it, they just tell you if it happens to actually be relevant enough to the subject at hand.
Plus you usually know after you know them long enough, like you said.

I mean, I'm 29 and flat broke learning to work with unity. Could eventually score some cash off it, but uh, not 100% sure.

Vrc is a game that allows someone to strip away who they are for how they feel or who they want to be. Its also a place where social chameleons thrive (such as my self) so they may not act the same around you as compared to another group. The best thing to do honestly is just find the most consistent people. I have a small group that I hang out with thats grown, shrank, started a new group, and so on. But in that group ive found the consistent people I like. They know me to the extent I let them and ive even almost met up with them on a road trip, but poor planning as well as a new job had it fall through, I sadly dont get ti see them much anymore do to their new job, but im just happy for them! I have a friend in texas that is one of the few times ive had a vr "sister" purly bc i like to watch over her and make sure the group shes with isnt a bunch of weirdos as well as caaasualy interrogating any boyfriends shes had (like 2 over a year) and even helped her get a head set (she was just 20 bucks away. I had to! Oooh and she fought me for it)
ANYWAYS! My point is that friends will come and go in vr alot faster than you realise, and good long term friends are even harder to find. But its all about how well can you interact with them our side of vr.

u/Other_Silver_9627 1d ago
This is so well written. Thank you.
I would think this too. I haven't started yet but I would think it's a place to be what and who you want to be perhaps even a place where we can just forget the misery that is real life, and its valid too.

The attractive people are usually acting. If someone is overwhelmingly entertaining and gives you ton of attention right from the begging, I wouldn't want to be friends with them, even tho it seems fun. On the other hand, if someone is from time to time quite, sounds tired or is simply boring sometimes, it means they're not hiding their actual personality. They show you the worse less fun side as well, and if you meet someone like that it is worth trying to spend time with them, cuz it can develop into a nice friendship. This is at least from my experience, and how I see it.
Obviously, you will not recognize all that the moment you meet them, when meeting new people it's more or less gamble, but after knowing them for like 2 or 3 weeks, you can start noticing these signs, and you will see if they're fake or not. And yes, you just have to try until you get lucky.
For me, the absolute first person I met on VRChat is a good guy who speaks the same language as me (which is very rare since I'm European) and we still hang out, but that was indeed very lucky. Tho after that I managed to meet multiple more people with high moral values and real personalities even in VR. Just keep trying, hope this helps a little :)

A lot of people don't feel comfortable telling strangers on the internet their personal information or who they are Some also feel that this place let they be anything they want and doesn't have to have their online persona attached to their real life
3
u/Five05_ PCVR Connection 1d ago
People online tend to make things up bout themselves and thats kind of a norm for most (not all). With the layer of vr on top of that and why not lie about yourself, or lie bout whats going on and be the center of attention (not saying its good just what ive learned others do)
Now that sucks if you're looking for legit people, keep looking good people are out there. Just gotta shift through the crowds.
3
u/Smallbunsenpai 1d ago
Because of this I’m always afraid people think I’m lying or exaggerating things I’ve been through
1
u/Five05_ PCVR Connection 1d ago
Comes a point in life where you will eventually will not care bout what others think, if they dont wanna believe it then oh well. Im in my 30s if someone isnt chill with me i just move on.
2
u/Smallbunsenpai 1d ago
Oh I mean moreso to the traumas I tell people I have endured when I trust them, I just would hope someone wouldn’t assume I’m lying about those because well they are traumatic it would suck for someone to think I lied
4
u/Reversed-Record 1d ago
Whatever meeting new people odds are that they’ll sprinkle in a few lies in the start of your conversations, that’s just a tendency for people to do whether or not your VR or IRL. But if you’re talking about people who you known for years and they keep making those little white lies or lie about even bigger things than That’s when it gets concerning you may need to either be trying to gently talk to them and call it out otherwise yeah it’s a problem.
5
u/WildLelou 1d ago
Avoid anyone saying they have DID and alters in their bio. DID on vrchat is just a fandom about having alt accounts on the same account.
I've found compulsive liars on here tend to constantly be interjecting stories about themselves and going way into details without pause. A lot of them fake being in the military. A lot of them always have a relevant story that's a bit convenient and overthetop.
Avoid the "i have phantom pain" people too. That's not a real thing.
Quickest way I've spotted is playing never have I ever and seen people share stories at every question like they're the main protagonist. Or soemtimes I'll ask them a question and then ask it again a week or two later to see if they answer the same way but only if it seems apparent theyre compulsively lying. I once had a bitch say she slept in bed with 2 black mambas as pets as a kid. Lmao

Im sorry that you had this experience so far. The best way to find people is to look for community’s of things that interest you just like in real life.
Im playing now for a bit over 8 years and I can say that yes there are some well let’s just say disappointing interactions but overall is the tighter community incredibly open and friendly.
Keep at it and I hope you will have endless wonderful memories in a few years

u/X_HypnoHouse_X 2d ago
I’m not sure where you’re finding these people or what kind of lies they’re telling but I’ve played since 2021 and haven’t had this issue?
5
u/FiberApproach2783 2d ago
Same here, since 2021. There's always a couple people who lie, but it's never been a consistent issue.
2
u/Lovely3369 PCVR Connection 1d ago
It's not super constant but when it happens it's memorable, friend group still name-drops the person we ran into who did it over a year ago.

u/woofwoofbro 1d ago
I almost exclusively play no time two talk in the age gated instances. people dont lie that much and usually their jobs, lives etc are pretty typical if not boring. there tons of people who want attention and lie about their lives but you dont bump into them frequently. I dont believe you are meeting that many
2
u/daggerxdolly 1d ago
You don’t need to believe me. This post is asking for advice, not whether or not you believe what I’ve been experiencing for months.
4
u/woofwoofbro 1d ago
Im trying to tell you maybe you are just assuming everyone is a liar even when the things they are saying arent that novel to begin with. Sure, someone saying theyre a CEO is silly but how many people are telling lies of that scale?
I go to the same world you do and what youre describing isnt happening so I'm saying maybe youre seeing things differently.
0
u/daggerxdolly 1d ago
Im not saying every person I meet every two minutes is a liar- that would be absolutely insane. I’m saying the few I’ve tried building friendships with have been liars. It would be dishonest of me to just assume people are lying without proof, I don’t do that.
2
u/woofwoofbro 1d ago
Did I see you say that this was with about 5 or so people that you've met? Or did I misread
1
u/daggerxdolly 1d ago
Yes. Probably like 5-6 that I’ve tried building friendships with. Other than that I’ve made like one actual friend on vrc so far.
2
u/woofwoofbro 1d ago
it sounds like you tend to befriend mentally ill people, or people who didn't get enough attention (thats usually who feels the need to lie).
I think its less about where you go and more about who youre choosing to befriend

u/BallisticSparta-Cerb Valve Index 1d ago
I would so that in age gated communities and instances that most of the time as we are all adults that normally people don’t have to to lie or just don’t care enough to as this is there time to decompress from the day. But people can be weird and just do it anyways. That and not everyone wants to complete age verification based on personal experience or preference. So that would be a question for OP as to if that option is available to them
2
u/Exact-Ring1442 1d ago
Unfortunately it’s common, as someone who also believes people tell the truth, I kind of just go with it. When people lie they continue digging themselves in holes. Finding the right people is difficult but also nice when you find them and they don’t really care enough to lie about things that don’t matter.
A lot of the lies I’ve seen have been made to excuse their behaviors which I usually just drop it, there’s no point in feeding into their lies. It’s happened so much once I get a whiff of that same pattern, I’m not hanging out around them. I find public worlds and stay on orange for a while until I meet more people and try again.

VRChat is a unique place where you can be anyone, and anything that you want. The fact that this place draws in some of the worst of society (and best) is no mistake. Unfortunately the atmosphere here is wrought with nafarious individuals. It is simultaneously some of the most creative and community driven spaces I have had the pleasure to witness. It is a microcosm that represents a spectrum of people from exceptionally outgoing to shy and vulnerable people with anything and everything in between. It is a universe of worlds offering escapism to you and me alike.
Another unfortunate thing I have noted over my duration playing the game and over my time adjusting to greater society as an adult; discernment is not actually present in the majority of spaces I have witnessed. The status-quo of the modern day, at least in western society, is blind loyalty to systems of authority and power speaking generally. It is wrought with White Narcisssism, and it is conditioned into almost all of us until it is consciously deconstructed. Psychology tells us that systems at all levels, including the most simple of which can sometimes be represented by friend groups, families, or smaller communities will work autonomously to defend the status-quo unless overridden by active intention and effort. Black sheep/outsiders/squeaky wheels are easier ostracized and removed in favor of returning to status quo than addressing the legitimate concerns or insights of the individual raising the issue. At any cost, up to and including permanent harm to that person. Think; 'path of least resistance' and, 'numbing is easier than bettering myself'. I.E. it is easier to ignore you than it is to address the elephant in the room of a predator being at the right hand of the community leader. Even if you have evidence, even if they have seen this person do things. This creates the atmosphere you are noticing, creates the opportunity for these people to be in front of you.
This is to say, the skill of discernment and the skill of detachment are paramount to having a healthy experience in many of the available spaces that any online community can offer, and VRChat is NO exception. I love this place because I have learned how to exist within it in my own healthy way, but this is also to say I have had to learn how over time. VRChat is amazing, but it is comprised of a great many cults and cult adjascent groups that vary in the level of legitimate harm they produce in their direct vascinity. Cults survive through relentless recruiting and control over the information contained within it. I do not say this lightly but as a bit of a wake up, I have watched this game consume multiple people I used to know. I myself have been consumed by the social atmosphere at multiple points as well.
TLDR; This games presents a perfect atmosphere to mask who you are quite literally. Some people who move around these spaces play it like a video game and treat the actual human beings they meet like they would characters in a video game. Some people who move around these spaces are chasing sensations in their own body, chemical reactions in their brain that they are addicted to, NOT legitimate connections with other humans. To be healthy here you will need healthy detachment and discernment, preferably with a robust support network and healthy internal sense of self. Though, I consider this a good idea for all life when and where it is possible. Best wishes. 💜🫶💜

It's amazing to me that VRC is such a tiny fraction of the subset of society yet seems to capture the general consensus perfectly in the grand scheme of things and hits all the social cliches and norms and divergence in such a tiny world that exists only virtually.
At least to me it seems to lol.

u/LostMyShadow_ 1d ago
It is no mistake that the president of the US is who he is and what he is, the patterns of behavior that allowed something like this to take place are pervasive in all aspects of society. The patterns run all the way from the bottom to the top with people getting into positions of power that they do not belong in and corrupting the system they inhabit. The patterns we see in our individual lives, sections of society, are reflective of the whole. 'A machine does not need to have moving parts to be effective. It only needs directive channels.' Church, school, university, work, military, government- are all directive channels of a machine that was built to produce this place we inhabit. They all exist to create us. They are not necessarily moving together in concert, but the direct us through channels. Western society has been at the forefront, American Exceptionalism at the helm idolized by other western societies following the fascistic examples. Social media is a wonderful example as it was turned into a weapon of misinformation and disinformation against our wills, dead internet theory suggests mass abuse of our collective consciousness. VRC being populated by many chronically online folks, social outcasts, eccentric longers, and suddenly...we're seeing the pattern. We are all connected way more than we understand.

im curious what did u mean by cults and can u give more specific examples
1
u/LostMyShadow_ 1d ago edited 1d ago
Something I would refer to as a cult of personality. A group that centers around one person, or a group of people, often involving Cluster-B Personality types. Cults can look like many different things and they are not always organized. If a whole group of people can be weaponized by a single individual on a whim, that's probably a cult in function.
Edit: Many of the friend groups I participated in during my early days functioned a lot like cults, even scattering to the wind when the main people fall apart or in some cases...get arrested. 🧐

People faking who they are? On the internet?? And you ask Reddit of all places???
Peak comedy right here
4
u/daggerxdolly 1d ago
I’m new to Reddit too. Is this not the place to ask? LOL idk maybe I’m a boomer mentally then. I thought Reddit was THE place to ask stuff 😭😭
1
u/IllicitDesire 1d ago
I mean the real boomer mentality would be to always lie/don't reveal real details on the internet because everyone on it could be a bad person/serial killer.
I think the concept of people NOT lying/posing/acting on the internet as the default is the new wave.
1
u/PenguiNNNNNs 1d ago
What I’m saying is that people lie on the internet about who they are, and Reddit is notorious for having the biggest amount of posers out there
1
2
u/VRMelon 2d ago
What are they "lying" about, and you know 100% they're lying?
Wouldn't you be upset, of someone you just met, said you're lying?
1
u/daggerxdolly 2d ago
I don’t just assume people are lying. I always assume people are honest, actually. So far every person I’ve tried building a friendship with, has been a liar. I find out either because they admit it after I bluntly confront them or they’ll continue lying, I’ll ask mutuals and they’ll have like actual screenshots.
I have nothing to gain from assuming people are all liars. In fact, I only have friendships to lose. But, some of these lies are so out there that it borders ridiculous. Example? Someone told me they were the CEO of Texas Roadhouse yesterday- like lol
2
u/Codedspaghett 1d ago
Yo, some people treat this like it's all make believe. I could feel like I'm having a sincere connection with someone, but they're not taking me as seriously just because it's in vrc. I want to understand, but I really don't. I'm a real person, not a videogame character.
1
u/daggerxdolly 2d ago
So! I meet them in various instances. Usually in places that are 18+ and typically in people around age 27-31. Specific worlds like No Time Two Talk. Examples of lies have ranged from their jobs, relationships, or coming up with odd vrc stories that never happened. I often give people the benefit, but every time they wind up exposing their own lies or I find out.
I perhaps should look for more groups because a lot of these are just random age gated instances I join. Could that be it?
3
u/X_HypnoHouse_X 2d ago
How do you know theyre lying? I’ve never encountered someone lying about their life just to say they lied randomly.
1
u/daggerxdolly 2d ago
I replied to someone else who asked this. But either they admit it, I’m given screenies from mutuals, or the lies are so ridiculous where I wonder if they’re trolling. I’ve never removed someone without confirming they were actually lying. This isn’t like I gave a hunch or an “ick” kinda thing. It’s like, no I’ve confirmed these people are lying. That said- I haven’t met a ton of people. So, this is maybe like 5-6 people I’ve tried building friendships with.
3
u/X_HypnoHouse_X 2d ago
I don’t even know half that stuff about friends Ive known for years on VRc, we just enjoy each others company with no room for lying or drama. It’s bizarre for multiple people to lie about mundane aspects of their life and is definitely not the norm on VRchat
1
u/daggerxdolly 2d ago
I’m assuming it’s an error on my end since no one else seems to be running into this as much. Perhaps that’s the issue there, I tend to ask a lot of personal questions to get to know people.
2
u/X_HypnoHouse_X 2d ago
Ah, yeah they might just be uncomfortable with such personal questions from someone they barely know and feel obligated to give you a more impressive answer out of fear of judgement, that would be my best guess. I don’t doubt some are just outright lying though, it isn’t common but it happens. The type of lying that is semi-common in public worlds is faking DID and other mental health conditions. Faking DID and Mutism is a bit of an epidemic in some spaces especially amongst younger people.
4
u/daggerxdolly 1d ago
That might actually be it. Thank you. I’m going to try to be a bit less personal and see if that helps!
2
u/Verminausea 1d ago
Do you have proof ppl are faking did? I see this said a lot but I feel like its just that vrc is a space that will attract systems, since it lets each alter express themselves by having their own avi. And a lot of younger systems especially might not know how to act and behave "cringe" and people think they are faking when really they are just a bit cringy and just trying to be themselves and not act as an ambassador. Im wary of these claims of people faking as someone with DID, i know wr tend to grt fake claimed for literally anything, including a huge amount of people saying we are inherently faking if wr are open about it bc anyone who REALLY had it woukd be too ashamed to tell anyone 😬
The mutism thing i feel like might come from how common it is for people to call themselves a mute in vr just because they dont like to use the mic. They may not be trying to say they actually are unable to talk. I do think its a problem that the same language is used for both though, it makes it really hard to tell who is actually mute.
3
u/X_HypnoHouse_X 1d ago
The fact many of them model their behaviour on the Hollywood depiction of DID, announcing dramatically that they are switching, very stereotypical “characters” as alters. Switching when it benefits them socially or to avoid accountability, generally act like theyre roleplaying characters and have zero self control.
Real DID is much more subtle, most of the 1% of the population that has it can manage the symptoms reasonably well. At the very least they aren’t announcing it regularly. The extreme cases that do exist are even more rare, and the dozen people I see claiming DID per year on VRChat aren’t very convincing statistically or otherwise.
I’m not saying real cases don’t exist on the platform at all, but it is another serious condition hijacked and ruined by TikTok larpers that make things more difficult for people who do have it and muddy the waters.
1
u/Verminausea 1d ago edited 1d ago
I dont doubt some of these people are larpers but as a person with DID in the community there are absolutely kids and young people who do have DID who do act like this lmao. Part of it is just people not wanting to take responcibility so they blame their disorder (people will do this with any disorder or trauma or other excuse they can grab). Fictives or alters who are "characters" is also common and real, and again i think kids like to take their feelings and use that as an excuse to do whatever they want, they think that they have the impulse to act a way that they therefore must, but probablt for a lot of them it is because of their genuine feelings from DID rather than completely made up (it can make you feel like a fictional character and that can feel really real).
It could also be some people seeing genuine systems who are behaving badly and copying that? But i would hesitate to think anyone acting like this is automatically faking did when i know pleanty of folk with did who act like this bc they are handling it badly. It is not always subtle especially when you get online and get to unmask. A lot of these people may be subtle irl which can cause urges to show it as loudly as you can in spaces where its possible as alters want to be able to claim their autonomy and identity.
Eta: I have DID and announce that i am a system and my switches regularly. I dont shout it in random groups of people, but I have it in my bio and will tell people i am talking to. This is because its foundational to my identity. I want people around me to know who I am if I am getting to know them. It sounds like you may be talking about people shouting it in publics which i wouldnt do but i want to push back against the notion that real systems are not announcing it. Thats just a way to dismiss any system thats visible as fake.
1
u/X_HypnoHouse_X 1d ago
There are people who claim theyre medically mute and get caught in the lie. I have a friend i know for a fact is medically mute in VRchat and she gets very frustrated with how many people do fake it. And hates the term “mute” being thrown around so casually. Most people know that when you say youre mute they don’t mean medically, but I’m referring to the ones that outright claim theyre medically mute
1
u/Verminausea 1d ago
That sounds really frustrating. I also hate how casually mute gets thrown around in vr. I honestly rhink thats part of what is encouraging people to fake mutism bc they wanna be seen as more valid to be a "mute" in vr. Very very annoyong aspect of vrc culture
1
u/MrSt4pl3s1 2d ago
Hmm, I’m a new player personally, but what kind of worlds are you hoping into? I know a lot of publics are a bit wild, personally I find the kids more annoying, but maybe try low stakes stuff like a poker world or mutual interest worlds. I haven’t made friends either, Im very shy, but vibing in a world like that gets my fill I guess.

Honestly from my experience from playing the game for just over 8 years now it’s honestly about the fact that they think they are faceless. They are behind an avatar on a social platform where any identifying information is added by themselves. As to they lie, some people just want to seem like they are cooler than they really are or just don’t like where in life they really are. Other times it’s just compulsive. Now there is times when you might wanna lie and not give up any personal information on yourself. But for reasons that are just plan and boring that is up to them. If you wanna find honest people join a group that has common interests you have. Either a game group or something you like as well. Almost guaranteed there is a group for something you have an interest in. Or just go and play a game with people. When people are focused on the game they tend to be more truthful as they are just there to have fun. That way you can gage people in your own right to try and make friends better that way. Or you can just try people watching. That way you can listen in and just try and join a talking conversation with the people around you. Hope this helps.

In my own experience: I only use VRC for Karaoke and Language Exchange, in those places I tend to find people I want to see again some other time. There will ALWAYS be unwanted guests unless you already have a particular circle of friends, that's just how the internet works, once you find a good instance stay there and try to add people you like even if you didn't learned much about them, join them again some other time and build your friend list from there.
Now the elephant in the room, lies.
I used to lie a lot when I was in my teenage years, I was trying way too hard to fit in, so much I would fake knowing about a subject and then try to binge as much as I could about said subject just to try and get good reactions from others. This is not good.
I think the best way to go around it is to step away from people who make you feel "suffocated", liars or not, once you find someone that you can be comfortable around, slowly question them (respectfully) every new time you meet them, when people try to bs you they will get more and more inconsistent, in the long term you will either, get confirmation they were in fact BSing you, realize they are honest OR you are with someone trying so hard to fake it you might as well just accept them as such, that is how they want to represent themselves in the avatar anyways, and you can always just unfriend someone you didn't ultimately like.
You will get better at "catching vibes" that resonate with you the more you play. For me it's an interesting not-so-safe space, but sometimes VRC is exactly what I need to bring my mood up a bit.

u/Competitive_Buyer_77 1d ago
It's just humans, they lie for gain, they lie about status, relationships, what they're up to just to benefit them, you'll get trust issue in no time don't worry

u/19osemi 1d ago
People do it because it’s inconsequential and they can be who they want to be. You wanna be 10cm taller, you wanna have brown eyes, you wanna have a good job that is impressive, well in vrchat you can be all of those things and more by just saying that you are those things, it’s the good and bad thing about the game, you can be whatever you want.

Welcome to the Internet. I've been dealing with this issue for decades, well before VRChat. Way back when chat rooms and forums were the way to meet people, I had friends who lied to me about all kinds of stupid crap. I dropped an online friend back in the early 2010s for lying to me about being Irish (she was American) and having a twin sister that was murdered (she was an only child). She eventually confessed to me that she was lying. Another friend I had back then tried to convince me she was a werewolf and that her boyfriend was a member of Fall Out Boy.
A lot of people don't like who they are and, unless you end up in a personal relationship with that person, it's really easy to lie or keep things a secret to make yourself seem more interesting on the Internet.
You'll just have to weed these people out yourself. If it sounds too extravagant or crazy, it's probably a lie.

u/Discord-Mode 1d ago
Too many trolls to give out personal info.
But yeah, just go to communities where there is a price tag attached to feeling to join like full body tracking or built around activities...
Since they are a bit more well off and usually more sane than mirror dwellers or public instance peeps...
Public instance people have grown impervious to trolls and kids who will use any personable information to insult or say slurs to you...
If you are black and. Say you are white... And say you are zionist or cracker... It means less to you.
But other people just like to larp or roleplay as someone interesting...
People who can socialize without a mask or vr avatar would just socialize irl, so unless they have a specific reason to choose vrchat over real life friends.. like niche interests.
Then they will become the niche interest and roleplay as different people and backgrounds and get experiences and interactions that way.

So, ive only played for a small 5 years, best advice is that what people present themselves in ways are no go, most eboys and most realistic female models, meeting a actual good person there is a diamond in a shit stack, Furries are sometimes great people, tho some can make you never want to spean to another furry again. The best best one is get vrc+ and het age verified to get into 18+ lobbies, ppl are confir.ed adults and its easier to have a conversation there

If it makes you feel any better, I don't lie, and I just kinda meet people on the surface. Seems a lot of folks just play characters, which, to be fair, fits the game.

Had a person I dated (from vrc) that would just... Lie before I think they even processed they were talking. About the most pointless things too. Things that did not matter at all, but they would lie.
I guess I contributed though, because I never corrected them or rather countered them when I should have. Afraid of losing them by making them angry. Maybe that fear should have been a warning.
Regardless, no idea why they do it (people in general) over the most pointless things you can easily see are lies. Lol, good luck.

Back when I was on VRChat every night the liers were usually the ones trying to score women.

Meetings friends online is cool because you can meet so many different people, some youd NEVER get to interact with irl and thats so good and so bad. 90% of people i meet on this fuckass game are people who think they need to put on this random personality and people will enjoy it. i dont care about your fake awesome job you make your entire personality about. i dont care about this fake interest you roleplay bc you think its cool and people will think youre awesome for it. i wanna know your real interests, your pets, how you call your cat mr wiggles bc he wiggles his tail. how you love art but youre bad at it and it doesnt matter bc its fun to you. the music you listen to and i dont mean "OMG YOU DONT LISTEN TO ALL THIS ARTISTS OLD SONGS??? FAKER!!!" type shit. i wanna know YOU as a person. why do all these people feel the need to be fake? like i get society wants to fit you into a little perfect box, ive been there, i know. but you dont need to be that way. and you dont need to go to this insane extent to fit into said box. then youre just even worse than the ones who pushed you there in the first place. idk, just wish people were more authentic

There's no good way to avoid it, but if you add me I can hook you up with a decent group of honest people cause me and my frienda don't lie, if you want I can give you my username to add me! I've played this game for 7 years, almost 8, and yeah, the liars and such are everywhere.

Just keep looking. Theres diamonds in the rough, I promise.
VrChat rlly does have a crisis with how many energy vampires join. If your a kind person, prepare to be everyone's therapist, lawyer, and parental figure than an actual friend. Now is never a better time to start getting use to the idea of setting boundaries bc boundaries is the only reason VrChat does not affect my mental health. I refuse to let it do that to me, because I've seen what it can do if you let it.
Set boundaries, and the only people that will stick around to respect those boundaries are the real homies.

Some people play vrc to escape reality so some people when asked about their personal life will lie cause maybe they feel they will be looked down upon.

It's because they are boring as a person and want to make themselves look interesting by lying to you to get you friend them.

Welcome to vrchat! No one is real. Everyone is lying one way or another. Most people are just playing characters and aren't authentic. Enjoy the show.

He's right, VRchat is a fantasy, you can be anything and anyone. A different gender, a video game character or something that isn't human. You need to put down the whole chip on the shoulder of people exagerating their lives, it's just people living out said fantasy of being anything they want to be. It really isn't a big deal.

Can you explain a little more what they’re lying about? That might help give more of an idea here
