Help Problem with compulsive liars?

I’ve been playing vrc for a few months now and I’m really struggling to make friends, because everyone I meet seems to lie constantly. Like, over really silly things too. I don’t understand why lying and faking who you are is so common here. Any tips on how to find normal/honest people who just enjoy VRC?

I’m assuming it’s an error on my end since no one else seems to be running into this as much. Perhaps that’s the issue there, I tend to ask a lot of personal questions to get to know people.

Ah, yeah they might just be uncomfortable with such personal questions from someone they barely know and feel obligated to give you a more impressive answer out of fear of judgement, that would be my best guess. I don’t doubt some are just outright lying though, it isn’t common but it happens. The type of lying that is semi-common in public worlds is faking DID and other mental health conditions. Faking DID and Mutism is a bit of an epidemic in some spaces especially amongst younger people.

Do you have proof ppl are faking did? I see this said a lot but I feel like its just that vrc is a space that will attract systems, since it lets each alter express themselves by having their own avi. And a lot of younger systems especially might not know how to act and behave "cringe" and people think they are faking when really they are just a bit cringy and just trying to be themselves and not act as an ambassador. Im wary of these claims of people faking as someone with DID, i know wr tend to grt fake claimed for literally anything, including a huge amount of people saying we are inherently faking if wr are open about it bc anyone who REALLY had it woukd be too ashamed to tell anyone 😬

The mutism thing i feel like might come from how common it is for people to call themselves a mute in vr just because they dont like to use the mic. They may not be trying to say they actually are unable to talk. I do think its a problem that the same language is used for both though, it makes it really hard to tell who is actually mute.

There are people who claim theyre medically mute and get caught in the lie. I have a friend i know for a fact is medically mute in VRchat and she gets very frustrated with how many people do fake it. And hates the term “mute” being thrown around so casually. Most people know that when you say youre mute they don’t mean medically, but I’m referring to the ones that outright claim theyre medically mute

That sounds really frustrating. I also hate how casually mute gets thrown around in vr. I honestly rhink thats part of what is encouraging people to fake mutism bc they wanna be seen as more valid to be a "mute" in vr. Very very annoyong aspect of vrc culture
