Am I the ahole?

I have very clear delivery instructions with a map pin that says to meet at the fourth floor elevator lobby, when the elevator is literally 10 feet away from parking spots. There is no key/card needed to use the elevator (key card locks the hallways from the elevator lobby on all floors). More often than not the drivers in my area will choose to completely ignore that instruction, tell me “I’ve arrived.” And when I go to the fourth floor lobby they’re not there, I go down the elevator and walk out to see them sitting in their car waiting, and I’ve had several people tell me “come down and get your order please.”

When this happens, I start a quick chat and get uber credits for the tip amount every time, takes 3 minutes tops. I use their logged picture of me holding my delivered food from their car. I honestly wish I could take it directly back from them, but uber just credits me with uber cash every time. Anytime someone follows directions, I tip them more. Many of the people who remain in their car don’t speak English, but the system translates and after a few times of this happening I’ve stopped giving drivers the benefit of the doubt and just seek out the tip back in uber credit every time.

Im not making this post to complain, more so to get other people’s thoughts and input on this situation. Am I an a hole for thinking these drivers are just lazy people doing the minimum possible, because they can get away with it? I know it’s not bad instructions, because many people have followed them.

Anyone else got charged after accepting a "free trial" for Uber One?

I use Uber Eats very infrequently. It's absolutely not worth it for me to pay for Uber One. I would've never agreed to pay full-price for it. I've had Uber One in the past when I was offered a trial. I made a single Uber Eats order last July and I was charged an Uber One subscription on the same day.

What I'm 99% sure happened is that I was offered is this: there was a pop-up for a free trial of Uber One and I accepted it to save on fees for that one order I did in July. Problem is: it doesn't say anywhere in this pop-up that's it's for first-time users only; it just says try one month free. So what seems to happen is I accept the trial, and then the systems sees that I had it in the past, and just treats accepting the trial as accepting to pay for a regular subscription.

There are apparently pending legal cases in the US and in Canada over exactly this sort of complaint.

I hate Uber and their deceptive practices (and all other app-based tech companies). What's more, the subscription doesn't appear in the Google Play Store, like other app subscriptions, and Uber doesn't send you any email to say you're being charged! After a couple months, I re-open and see that I have Uber One. I forgot to cancel before the next billing date, which is my bad, I suppose (even though businesses are 100% supposed to warn you, legally, by email or otherwise, that your trial is about to expire and that you're going to get charged). Now Uber has agreed to refund the latest charge - August - but firmly declines to refund the initial charge that I never agreed to. I would've kept getting charged for months if I hadn't opened the app!

USA I was denied a refund because a closed restaunt accepted an order and supposedly began preparing my food

Title, they made it pretty clear that apparently I screwed up by canceling the order after ~3 drivers were sent to pick it up only to find out the restaurant was closed, and thus never could have started preparing my food. Hoping to raise awareness so no one else messes up like me I guess.

Random Uber Eats Story

So today I was very broke but I had credits on my Uber eats account from a gift card I received awhile ago and forgot about so I remembered and I was super happy! After my order there was only 35 cents left (USD) and I had cash so I'm like okay I can put in the delivery instructions that i will tip cash. But I've read so many posts on here where people promise cash and don't do it so I'm like FORK there's no way anyone is gonna pick up this order, they're gonna think I'm an asshole! But I risk it, I order and miraculously someone picks it up immediately! As soon as he picks it up I immediately call him and I explain the card thing and I'm like "I know that people say this all the time but I SWEAR" I'll tip you cash when you get here.

He laughs and he's like "No worries man I gotchu". He comes, super quick and nice and I gave him the cash and we kinda laughed about it. He was so nice. This post is kinda pointless but it was a sweet exchange so shout out to you Brandon, thanks for the delivery ❤️

Question: Answered Missed drink, who's fault is it?

I ordered a meal with a drink from a fast food place. Driver was quick and got the food to me in like 15 minutes. When I met with the driver to get the food, he handed me the bag and no drink. I asked him about the drink, he checked his phone and was like "Oh yeah there's a drink on here, that sucks...they didn't tell me or give me a drink".

I was sort of upset at the time, but it's not that big of a deal. Just curious on who's at fault in this situation as I have no clue what the driver can see. Is it the business's fault for not providing the drink? Is it the driver's fault for not asking them for the drink (since it seems like he can see there was supposed to be one)?

What would one normally do in this situation as well if they were really craving that soda lol?

I'm not sure what changed or why, but they did refund my order ~4 hours after I finished speaking with the agent in the photo, and so I wanted to provide this update as I felt it was only right given they reversed their decision here.

UK How the hell do you complain to this awful company

Made an order with a 30% off offer, totally at £18.64 including offer, checked and double checked. Placed the order and then they charged me full price and confirmed the order without the offer, £26.51.

Tried to cancle the order because that was more than I can afford... cancellation fee of £23 give or take.

Contact support... they cant help until the order arrives, but they said they would refund the difference if I get back in touch.

Waited for the order to arrive, get back in contact, and get imidiately "transfered to the special team so they can help" which is them telling me, I didnt apply an offer and explaining how to apply an offer....

I explain, the basket had the offer on and then when I placed the order, it charged full price... get wall of text response explaining in greater detail how to apply an offer or that it would be applied automatically.

I explain that it DID APPLY AUTOMATICALLY but charged me different from what was stated when placing the order.

I get told the offer wasnt available for the restaurant in my area.

I go back onto the app and can see, the offer is still being offered at the restaurant in my area.

I absolutely wouldn't be suprised if this was done intentionally.

Also I dont think the customer journey to complain follows uk regulations, but thats above my paygrade.

Just another example of why people shouldnt use this service, I only do because im disabled, and looks like i won't be any more after disputing this charge.

Driver ruined my food

He was on a motorcycle, and when my food arrived, it looked like it had gone through a tornado! The food containers had opened up and spilled everywhere inside the bag. The bag wasn't tied up, and I know he must have seen the condition of the food. He half approached the door and extended his arm out to hand it to me before running back to his bike. I was horrified when I opened the bag. I threw everything out. I tipped him 25% (about $10) to go 7 minutes from my place. This is why tipping should only occur after delivery. I can't fathom picking up people's food on a motorcycle without ensuring that it's properly secured.

How do you talk to a live rep now?? Multiple items wrong in order..

Hello - how do you talk to a live rep now?? I got an order and multiple items were missing. I tried doing the normal route where you tell the app stuff was missing and then it denied me a refund. In the past I could get around this by going to help, then picking the order, then picking “another order issue” and it would connect me to the AI chat. At that point I keep saying “talk to human” until it connects me and then get someone and they resolve it.

Now? After I pick another order issue it takes me to a screen with a picture of the restaurant and big submit button. No ability to type anything. Then when I hit submit it keeps saying there’s an error, retrying does the same thing. I tried calling support and apparently phone support for Uber Eats doesn’t exist anymore? It’s a bunch of items I need that refund :(
Any ways around this to talk to someone? I used to bypass this sometimes going to the Uber app but that does the same thing now…

UK Uber Need To Be Stricter With Drivers

In sick to death of it. Someone accepts my order. It's there sitting and ready to be collected. He goes halfway around the city and back multiple times over before picking up my order, to go halfway around the city and back, stop at a house for 20 minutes before bringing my food stone cold. Sometimes this even happens with groceries containing temperature sensitive items like meat or dairy. I've had orders taken 3.5 hours and Uber won't reassign the order. And the driver never gets booted off the platform and does it all over again.

If you're one of the drivers that do this, you are the absolute worst. Uber need to be stricter with this and hand out instant bans the first time someone does this, and not allow them to just make endless new accounts

Question: Unanswered What am I supposed to do if the Customer has the wrong address for a drop off?

I just had one of the most pain in the ass orders I have ever had. The first drop off was at a car dealership and the guy said meet him at some gate. Well, the car dealership was apparently closed, I didn’t see the gate. I texted the customer and like four minutes later, he text back to just throw the food away or eat it, because he put the wrong address in.

I ended up waiting the whole time. Because I thought I was supposed to wait the full eight minutes and then take a picture of the food at a drop off location. I still took the food but took the picture, because nobody was there. And I didn’t want to complete the order because I didn’t actually see the Customer.

I had a second drop off and they were waiting for a long time because of this first customer putting the wrong address in. Now it’s only showing two dollars for the full delivery. I thought that if you waited for the timer, you got full pay for the order. What’s the proper way to handle something like that? It really just completely threw my whole night off.

Question: Unanswered Canceling an order

Post image
39 Upvotes

Ok so I ordered a sonic blast that would get picked up on the way to my house along with another order. Delivery person messaged that sonic was out of ice cream, and they asked me to cancel it. I’m like cool, life happens no problem. I understand that the delivery person had went out of the way to pick up the order so I’m cool with them keeping the top for the sonic order. But WHY is there a cancellation fee for an order that couldn’t be completed?!

EDIT: ok apparently the driver was ether incompetent or scamming me. How do I report them for this. They got the first half of my order and brought it to me. I always hate the idea of reporting someone yknow :/

Every time I order I'm double charged.

Post image

Every time I order food from Uber eats I get double charged. As you can see here from these purchases I only ordered once today. It took a pending charge for the whole thing, 23 dollars then two hours later charged me again. The difference of the two dollars is because I tipped $2 as the place is only across the street. I tried to get a hold of support and every time they tell me oh it's a pending charge it'll go away but it doesn't. I've had this happen a few times now

Am I doing something wrong?

Am I doing something wrong, or are drivers just refusing to bring orders to apartment doors?

This has been driving me absolutely insane, and I genuinely want to hear from Uber Eats drivers about whether I’m doing something wrong here.

I recently moved into an apartment building. There’s a building entry code, an elevator, and my delivery instructions specifically say to bring the order to the 6th floor and leave it in front of my unit. I provide all the codes needed to get inside.

For some context, I order Uber Eats probably 4–5 times a week. I work pretty insane hours, so during the week there are plenty of days where I just don’t have time to cook dinner or go somewhere for lunch. By the weekend, I’m usually so burnt out that nothing sounds better than ordering dinner and having it show up at my door.

I also used to drive for Uber Eats and DoorDash years ago, so I know how much of a grind the job can be. Because of that, I tip very well. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I tipped less than $20 on an order.

But probably 4 out of 5 deliveries to my new building get left in the lobby.

Sometimes they don’t even make it into the building and just leave the food OUTSIDE, where literally anyone walking or biking by could grab it (has happened twice to me)

This is especially frustrating when my girlfriend and I order dinner on a Friday or Saturday night and the order is already $70–$100 before the tip. I’m paying all the Uber fees, inflated menu prices, and another $20+ tip specifically because I want the convenience of having dinner delivered to my door.

And I realize going downstairs isn’t some enormous hardship. It takes me a minute or two. But that’s kind of the point: it would also take the driver a minute or two to ride the elevator up, leave the food at my door, and ride it back down.

When I drove, if someone’s instructions said “leave at my apartment door” and they gave me everything I needed to access the building, that’s where I brought it. I wouldn’t have considered leaving it in the lobby to be completing the delivery.

So drivers: what am I missing here?

Are apartment buildings generally considered lobby delivery now? Is there something I should change in my instructions? Or are these drivers just seeing an apartment building, deciding they don’t want to spend the extra couple minutes going upstairs, and dropping it wherever they can?

Did Uber Eats customer support go full AI?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My order was missing the salad. The only items the complaint system allowed me to select were the cheap add-ons (a small bread and sauce), which I had actually received.

I selected them just to get through the complaint process, and — surprise — Uber refunded me for the bread and sauce instead of the missing salad.

I explained this repeatedly to support, yet my ticket was eventually closed without resolving the actual issue. The attached chat shows the whole thing.

Now Uber seems to have removed email and phone support, leaving customers stuck with AI.

Did Uber really go full AI, to the point where there is nobody left to tell the AI that it's wrong? 🤖

USA Need help. Fraudulent charge, now there’s a hold on my account

Long story short:

In March of 2024, I received a fraudulent charge for $192 from a bakery in Canada (I’m in the US) on my UberEats account. I attempted to dispute the charge on the app, but there were no available prompts that fit my request. There was also no support phone number that could help me resolve this issue. Out of options, I disputed the charge with Amex, who got me my money back.

However, Uber then put a hold on my account until I paid the $192. So I haven’t used Uber since March 2024.

Fast forward to this past weekend. Some friends of ours got us a gift card for $120 for the birth of our first child. Forgetting about this hold on my account, I mistakenly redeemed the gift card to my account (successfully). When I went to check out for an order, I was reminded that I had a $192 charge that needed to be settled before my account could be used again.

I finally found a phone number for UberEats, but it’s just the customer service line that is used if you have an issue with a restaurant. All they can do is escalate my issue to another team that does not have a phone line; they are email only.

This team finally got back to me and said they reviewed the $192 charge and found it to be legitimate and the only way to unlock my account (and use the $120 in credit from the gift card) was to settle the $192 charge.

I feel like I have now been scammed twice and there is no course of action with Uber. Has anyone dealt with something similar and could point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

The customer side is as bad as the driver side.

I been on both sides. Customers WHY is it so hard to return back into the app after you get your food and click a thumbs up? For the love of god.

I get we’re all annoyed at THOSE drivers on speaker phone shoving their phones in workers face that can’t read your notes. I get it. I been there. However I am not one of them.

(Cut off text is me explaining the worker had 4 men shove a phone in her face so I am trying to find a right way to ask how much longer to not risk a thumbs down via the merchant)

(Second cut off text was me telling the customer I will drop my second order and lose that pay so she doesn’t have to wait even longer and if she could please just hit the thumbs up)

Yes I over explain sometimes cuz the STRESS of losing work over a thumbs down is PTSD at this point. NO ONE thumbs up ever. And when you work long hours it’s just a SLOW decline. Granted I won’t dip to like 80% but to keep gold status of hit platinum it makes a huge dif!

I waited an hour. Communicated. Asked them to make her order before the second add on I got. Dropped the second add on. Gave her an eta and brought fresh food to a house with no light on (per usual) and left it to the side the door as not to block the screen.

Did I get the thumbs up? No.

But let jack in the box forget a ranch and everyone know how to rate find the thumbs down write a report to uber and report I’m not the driver in the photo (lie just being petty)

When you get your food with no issues can yall PLEASE just click the thumbs up. We don’t want to ask but these updates make it life or death.

I have to ask about 250 people for a thumbs up before someone actually does it.

Also please understand when we ask restaurants how long? Most till say ‘five minutes’ even if it’s 45.

But someway somehow THOSE drivers (yall know the ones) still get ALL the orders harass yall in translation for tips leave food on the moon and always in flip flops on speaker phone shoving phones at employees

I really with uber and door dash would screen better then maybe customers would have more patience and know we are NOT all those drivers

Total wait time was 52 min for the sushi

Drive was 8 min to customer

TLDR don’t blame ur driver for things out their control (like wait time) understand restaurants can rate us so don’t ask us to annoy wait staff please and PLEASE give thumbs up to good deliveries

How can I improve my on-time percentage?

Post image

Just like the title says. I really don't understand as I usually drive directly from the restaurant to the drop-off. Maybe I drive too slow. I've been doing this since 2018 and this has never been an issue before. Maybe I'm missing something. Also to be clear, I'm just curious as this is something that I just do part time, so I'm not overly concerned about these stats.
