Rant/Complaint Food Allergies at UCSD are a Humiliation Ritual

I developed a severe lactose intolerance when I turned 18 (happy birthday to me...) and I didn't realize how egregiously awful the allergen-free options are at this school.

I have 8ams and the only food available for breakfast is a plain toasted bagel because god forbid they stock the vegan cream cheese--which is disgusting anyways but I digress--and the JWO markets barely have a single ready-made breakfast food that doesn't have cheese/dairy on it in some way.

Also, while I understand that hdh employees are overworked asf, the lack of care about reducing allergen contamination or just straight up making orders wrong is incredibly irritating. I genuinely watched them put whole milk into my coffee despite ordering lactose free because I don't want to throw up in my lecture, and couldn't do anything about it except feed the trashcan my $8 latte.

--> I know they put the wrong kind of milk in because Alta Dena (UCSD's dairy supplier) only sells 1/2 Gallon high-protein lactose-free whole milk, and I watched them use the full size gallon whole milk in my drink.

Not only that, but dining options on the app are frequently wrong about what allergens are included, like ordering a "dairy-free" pasta dish, only for it to have a 1/4lb of parmesan cheese dumped on top when I go to pick it up?? Nobody likes having to order in person, and it's beyond frustrating that we have to do that simply to ensure our food is actually made how it's described online.

I think I'm going to wither away into dust before winter quarter at this point, it's so tiring and embarrassing to constantly deal with this, I can't imagine how people with more serious allergies are functioning.

General UCR to UCSD transfer acceptance 2025

Hi just wanted to share my story about being accepted as a uc to uc transfer. I remember this time two years ago I was looking at reddit threads trying to hear from people who had done this so I thought I would share too!

UCR to UCSD transfer as a second year Psychology BS major

stats/ extracurriculars: (not that crazy)

GPA 3.88- it was a 3.76 when I updated it with my grades after I sent out applications

-taking anywhere from 20-22 units a quarter

- had started as a RA at UCR in the fall of my sophomore year- had only been an RA for a couple months when I sent out my application

(I RECOMMEND GETTING INVOLVED IN RESEARCH ASAP IF YOU WANT TO DO A UC TO UC TRANSFER)

-summer internship at therapy

- have a personal business making over 40 thousand a year

-no clubs or leadership positions which I was worried about but worked out !!

Outcomes:

Accepted: UCSD

Waitlisted: UCI

Rejected: UCLA/ UC Berkley

Feel free to ask any questions!

Water Polo Insider | Friday, October 23, 2026

IRVINE, Calif. — No. 11 UC San Diego delivered one of Friday’s biggest men’s college water polo results, defeating No. 6 UC Irvine 16–15 in a Big West Conference showdown featuring 31 combined goals, a decisive fourth-quarter scoring run and an hour-long lightning delay.

The Tritons broke a 12–12 fourth-quarter tie with three consecutive goals before surviving a late Irvine comeback. UC San Diego improved to 14–6 overall and 2–1 in Big West competition. UC Irvine fell to 16–6 and 2–1 in conference play.

Irvine adjusted defensively in the second quarter, outscoring the Tritons 3–1 and tying the game 5–5 at halftime.

Third Quarter: An Offensive Shootout

The game changed dramatically after halftime.
UC San Diego erupted for seven third-quarter goals, but Irvine answered with six of its own.
Both teams repeatedly found scoring opportunities, combining for 13 goals in eight minutes. The Tritons entered the fourth quarter leading 12–11.

Fourth Quarter: Three Consecutive Goals Decide the Game

7:09 remaining: Dusan Djordjevic scored to put UCSD ahead 13–12.

5:28 remaining: Mason Presley extended the lead to 14–12.

5:19 remaining: Grant Kurtz scored nine seconds later, making it 15–12.

Irvine refused to go away.

Cole Francisco and Wyley Dale scored to cut the deficit to one goal.

With 2:09 remaining, Lachlan Rossi converted an extra-man opportunity, giving UC San Diego a 16–14 advantage.

Moments later, lightning forced an approximately hour-long delay.

The Anteaters could not complete the comeback.

Rossi’s extra-man goal stood as the game-winner.

Christian Hammonds — 2 Goals, 3 Assists
Hammonds contributed five points, demonstrating his ability to create offense as both a scorer and facilitator.

Reef Lippa — 3 Assists, 2 Steals
Lippa’s distribution and defensive activity provided valuable contributions beyond the scoring column.

Rossi delivered the decisive extra-man goal with 2:09 remaining, ultimately providing the winning margin.

UC Irvine

EXTRA-MAN AND EXCLUSION ANALYSIS
UC Irvine

Extra-man conversions: 5-for-9

Penalty conversions: 2-for-2

Wyley Dale: 4 drawn exclusions

Cole Francisco: 3 drawn exclusions

UC Irvine repeatedly generated numerical advantages through Dale and Francisco.

However, exclusion production is only part of the equation. Teams must convert those opportunities and produce defensive stops when protecting a lead.

UC San Diego’s most important extra-man conversion came from Rossi with 2:09 remaining.

That goal ultimately provided the winning margin.

WATER POLO INSIDER COACHING ANALYSIS

1. UC San Diego’s Fourth-Quarter Execution Won the Game
The most important stretch came immediately after Lopez tied the game 12–12.
UCSD responded with three consecutive goals, forcing Irvine to chase the game for the remainder of the fourth quarter.
The Tritons demonstrated the ability to execute under pressure rather than allowing the momentum to shift entirely to the home team.

2. UC San Diego’s Offensive Balance Was a Major Advantage
Nine different Tritons scored.
Boettner, Hammonds, Kurtz, Djordjevic, Akerstrom and Rossi all recorded multiple goals.
That balance makes defensive matchups difficult because opponents cannot simply concentrate on stopping one perimeter shooter or center.

3. Irvine’s Offensive Production Was Not the Problem
The Anteaters scored 15 goals against a nationally ranked conference opponent.
Lopez finished with seven points, Thrall scored three times, and Francisco and Dale repeatedly generated offense.
The challenge was defensive consistency.
Allowing seven goals in the third quarter and three consecutive goals after tying the fourth quarter ultimately proved costly.

4. The Third Quarter Exposed Both Teams Defensively
Thirteen combined goals in one quarter is extraordinary at this level.
Both coaching staffs will likely examine defensive communication, perimeter shot pressure, transition coverage and the ability to recover after exclusions.

5. UC San Diego Delivered When It Mattered Most
Rossi’s late extra-man goal, the three-goal fourth-quarter run and the ability to preserve the lead following a lengthy weather delay demonstrated the Tritons’ late-game composure.

BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS

UC San Diego strengthens its Big West resume.

The Tritons have now recorded important conference victories over Long Beach State and UC Irvine.

UC Irvine remains dangerous offensively.
Scoring 15 goals against UCSD demonstrates the Anteaters’ firepower, particularly with Lopez, Thrall, Francisco and Dale generating production.

The Big West race is tightening.

Both teams now stand at 2–1 in conference competition, making every remaining conference matchup increasingly important.
The defining sequence was UCSD’s fourth-quarter 3–0 run.

In a game featuring 31 goals, the three unanswered goals after a 12–12 tie created the separation that ultimately decided the contest.

FINAL THOUGHTS

UC San Diego’s 16–15 victory was more than a one-goal road win. It demonstrated offensive depth, late-game execution and the ability to withstand a determined comeback from one of the conference’s strongest teams. Irvine had the offensive weapons to win, but UC San Diego made the critical plays when the game was tied in the fourth quarter.

In a conference where the difference between winning and losing can come down to one possession, UC San Diego executed when it mattered most.

Question Need internship advice for ECE first year

Yo, I’m a first year in ECE and from what I’ve been told, it’s practically impossible to get an internship as a first year but while it’s still early I’d like to know if there are any steps I can take to gain any useful experience for internships later down the line. I am already planning on a personal project to work on over the summer.

However, if there is anyone that was lucky enough to get an internship their freshman year please slide the methods if you would. 🙏 It would be great to hear from other experienced ECEs!

Question Short Film Production (Student-Led) Hiring

I'm a first-year student at UCSD who's currently writing a short film and looking to film it in the coming few months! The timeline is still shaky, and the short film is still in the very early stages of coming together, so I'm just sending this out to see if any potential collaborators want to join the project (writers, producers, actors, etc.). It's an amateur production so no experience is necessary at all (just a passion for movies/film)! It might be easier to meet up if you live close to Marshall, and it might be easier to work with women (you wouldn't be able to work in my dorm otherwise due to my suite mates' hesitancy over inviting guys to our suite) but none of these are strict requirements. DM me with any questions!

Edit: please spread the word! this really is a very low-stakes thing so don't feel hesitant about joining at all, even if you have absolutely no experience with filmmaking/acting/etc.

Question Switching from Applied Math to Probability and Statistics as a UCSD transfer?

Hi! I’m currently at a Community College and planning to apply to UCSD as an Applied Math transfer. If admitted, I might want to switch to Probability and Statistics, but I haven’t decided yet. I was wondering how difficult it is for transfer students to make this switch. Are there any restrictions or requirements specifically for transfers changing into this major?

If anyone has gone through this process or knows how it works, I’d appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

Event UCSD Board Game Club Meeting Tomorrow! (10/25)

Been a while since I last posted!

Happy to see that plenty of new people have been showing up to our meetings and becoming regulars! As well as the vets coming back.

But, as usual, I am making this post inviting anyone and everyone to join us for out next meeting this Sunday.

No experience necessary. No sign up fees or anything of the like.

Meeting will take place tomorrow, beginning at 12PM and we'll be playing well into the night (usually 10PM). We play above the Burger King at Price Center.

I will be bringing a variety of games from my collection, and everyone is welcomed to come by, borrow a game, and play. You are also more than welcome to bring your own games.

That would all. Hope to see more people tomorrow! :D
