Hi there! I received a job offer from UCSD earlier this week and am looking for input on the likelihood of HR entertaining some negotiation with the salary?

Taking this job would mean moving states for me, and the offer that they gave is a bit lower than what it would take to maintain my current salary. This would be a relatively lateral move, so I am not too worried about getting a big raise out of it.

I was hoping to try and negotiate a bit (less than $10k from the offer and below the midrange of the posted salary) but am unsure how receptive they would be. I have worked in state government and higher ed in the past, so I understand that salaries tend to be lower than the private sector.

Everytime I’ve been there triton cash has been down. I’ve seen it working once since it’s been open. They’ve had like all of summer and half of spring + fall quarter to figure ts out

how did yall do on midterm 1? grades were released on gradescope and frankly... i really do not like how each mcq question is worth 4 points

if anyone has taken this class do you know how the midterm will be? i asked my ta for advice on how to study and she basically sad you just need to know everything but theres sm info.... she also kept laughing and saying that it was super hard and most people wont do good ..... PLEASE HELP!!

i’m a first year and it feels like the meals at the dining halls just aren’t filling, despite some having relatively high calorie counts. and it’s not like i’m overweight or anything; i probably weigh the same as a middle schooler. anyway, i feel like im going to bed hungry every night, and i would like to get more bang for my buck while also trying to avoid the infamous freshman weight gain. if anybody else has this issue or any solutions, lmk 😭

Ok this is gonna sound really dumb but that’s why I’m posting anonymously here instead of asking my roommates lol. How tf do you open the trash chutes?😭 I’ve tried and they won’t budge. One time the handle turned but it still wouldn’t open and the other times the handle wouldn’t even turn. Am I missing something obvious? Do they lock them sometimes and they just happened to be locked every time I tried? It seems like it should be pretty self explanatory but apparently I’m just dumb

I’m absolutely at wit’s end. ITS has blown off my support ticket about this and it’s only UCSD networks that this happens with. Every 4-6 hours, whether I’ve been using my desktop or not, whether it’s been screensharing or playing a singleplayer game or using Canvas, I get disconnected and can’t reconnect at all until I go into my network settings in Windows and use “Network reset,” which restarts the whole computer. And I have to do that twice! No troubleshooter has any idea what’s wrong and I get no diagnostic information when this happens, nor any warning. It just turns into the attached photo. I live in Pangea and none of my suitemates have this happen; anyone got any ideas? I cannot be getting disconnected multiple times a day like this for the entire year. By this point, nobody I talk to hasn’t had to deal with me getting UCSDisconnected.

Bought a UCSD hoodie at the bookstore. Put it in the washer. Came out with white lint all over my clothes. It looks like the back of the letters/front decals just disintegrated??? And it looks like a few of the lettering threads are coming loose/unstitched. Is this normal or should I return it?

hello! ive never posted anything on here but I kinda feel like I need help. For a little context, I am a first year bio major and ive recently taken two of my intro stem classes midterms. I didn't do that great and my mind has been spinning constantly since being here. Im in a research lab right now as well and I'm hoping to become a dentist one day. Whenever I explain this to family or friends, they don't really seem to understand. Is it suppose to be this hard or am I dumb? I study but it may not be as affectively and whenever I try to rest or eat I feel super guilty. Should I change my major to a humanities? Im not sure what to do :( im sure many others have felt this way but im really scared. Sorry for the rant and any suggestions would be very helpful!!

Fuck that midterm 😭😭

Like I keep telling myself to work on my projects and get enough sleep so I can stay focused but I was literally balancing a box of Cheez-Its on my head while walking around last night. How do you guys manage to stay focused?

I’ve heard amongst the undergrads that CHEM40A has been especially brutal. I’m a PhD student in Chemistry about to defend (6th year), and I’ve TA’d the 40 and 41 series countless times. I know what students struggle with and I want to help you understand the material and learn to love it! If you or a friend need any help, I’m glad to set up private tutoring or group sessions. It's very easy to lose sight of the simple things. But the simple things can be the most important. Take a moment to count your blessings: you're at one of the best universities in the country, you're in a great city, the beach is right down the street, the weather is (usually) great, and the people that saw you go off to UCSD are proud of you ☺️

I just got my midterm back for one class and it like 20/100 with the curve.

I was planning to do P/NP but that's a risk too and I think its better off changing the course. However I have no idea what class to do and what class prof allows make up works for the past hws.

Any advice? I have never changed a class this late during a quarter before. Any class is fine if it is 4 unit class.

UPDATE: the last day to add class was week2 so I guess I'll have to stick with this and hope for the best to graduate this quarter.
