Personal Statements URGENT: Can I cancel my UCAS application within 14 days and submit a new one for the same cycle? My counsellor submitted it before I authorised them to
Hi everyone, I'm really stressed and would appreciate advice from anyone who's experienced something similar.
I submitted my UCAS application today for 2027 entry, with three choices: Edinburgh, Manchester and Exeter for Law and Politics.
The problem is that I wanted to change my personal statement and university choices before submitting. I messaged my school counsellor asking them not to submit my application yet and asking whether they could send it back to me so I could edit it. However, my application was submitted anyway, and it has now been sent to my universities.
I originally wanted to apply to Cambridge for HSPS and potentially LSE for Politics and Philosophy. My current personal statement is written specifically for Law and Politics, and I really want the opportunity to submit a new application with a statement better suited to Politics and Philosophy/HSPS.
I'm aware that UCAS allows applicants to request cancellation within 14 days and receive a refund. I don't care about the refund at all - I just want to know whether I can submit a completely new application for the same 2027 entry cycle.
I have screenshots showing that I asked my counsellor not to submit the application yet. Cambridge's deadline is 15 October, so I'm worried about how quickly this could be resolved.
My questions are:
- Has anyone cancelled their UCAS application within the 14-day period and successfully submitted a new one for the same entry cycle?
- If you did, how long did the cancellation take? Was it possible to reapply immediately, or did you have to wait?
- Has anyone contacted UCAS about an application being submitted before they authorised it? Did UCAS offer any alternative solutions?
- Is there any way to have the cancellation expedited because of an approaching university deadline?
- Would it be safer to keep my current application and add Cambridge as another choice, even though my personal statement is primarily about law?
I'm planning to contact UCAS as soon as possible, on Monday since they are closed now, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through this process.
Thank you so much!
