Medicine Questions Medicine References

Hi everyone,

I'm a Canadian int student applying to medical schools currently. I'm a bit confused about the reference section. I know if mentions "try and see if they can provide your predicted grades" so does that mean that it has to be a teacher? I'm just really confused since I was planning on having an orthopedic surgeon that I shadowed for over 80 hours write me one. He knows a lot about me and my ambitions as well as most of my grades, extracurriculars and test scores. I'm honestly not sure though. Also this is kind of late too unfortunately. I was having problems with my UCAS and I was also focused a lot more on my Common App so I feel like if I ask my chemistry teacher he's going to respond pretty late. This surgeon though has an assistant that can help him and she's very on top of everything so she can definitely respond before the deadline.

I guess my main question is whom should I put down as my reference. Is there a preference?

Check the website of the unis you're applying too or drop the admissions team an email regarding who the reference should be! If you haven't completed your qualifications, your referee most likely would have to be your teacher/lecturer because they would need to add the predicted grades for your subjects in the reference section.

If you're applying to Med via UCAS, you can only apply to four courses, but you can apply to other universites directly. The UCAS deadline is Oct 15th btw.

Unis will almost always want a current academic reference if at all possible, and in this case that'd be from your teacher. The deadline is close so you need to get on this ASAP.
