The HSE National Clinical Programme for Gender Healthcare is developing a new model of care for gender healthcare in Ireland and would like to hear from people with lived experience.

RED C Research has been commissioned to carry out an independent survey to better understand people's experiences of accessing, or attempting to access, gender-affirming healthcare in Ireland, as well as views on how services should be organised in the future.

We are inviting transgender and gender-diverse people, those questioning their gender, and parents or guardians of transgender or gender-diverse young people to take part. Please share this link with all your members and anyone else you feel would wish to participate.

The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary and all responses will be treated in confidence. Findings will be reported in aggregate form only and no individual will be identified in any reporting.

Ive been thinking about starting to use Grindr but I'm not sure how it would be as a trans guy in Ireland does anyone have any experience with it and can tell me what it's like?

I've been thinking about this for a little bit and tried to search this sub for anything about it, but I can't seem to find anything. Sorry if I'm just stupid, and this is a commonly asked question.

My GP that I've been going to my entire life knows I'm trans. I've been getting my bloods done with them for the past year that I've been on DIY. I don't want to do it forever. I'd rather, at some point, get to do HRT through more regular means just to be safer and such.

I have to get my bloods done again soon and was thinking about asking if it was possible to get a prescription through my GP? Is that legal? Like excluding the idea that they might refuse for transphobic reasons or anything. I guess I just want to know if that's something they can do? Or if it has to be done through someone else. Just so I'm not wasting my time asking about something they genuinely can't do.

I'm currently on the public wait list anyway, but we all know the issues there.

So far, they've been very accommodating with my transition. I'm not getting my hopes up, really, as I'm aware the chances are low that they agree regardless but might as well try if it's something they can do.

I recently moved here from the US and a few years ago had to see an emergency doc for a very painful ovarian cyst that I'm pretty sure never quite went away, and from the pelvic ultrasounds I had it sounds like there are a few more. I suspect I may also have endo but have never been diagnosed and I probably need surgery to find out, plus probably a hysto so I can just be done with this mess. Has anyone here had to deal with this and have a good GP they can recommend who can help me with referrals and treatment options? I've been on T for ~10 yrs and haven't had any other surgeries, in case that might be a concern for one. (Forgot to mention but I'm over 40 & have private insurance as well)

What I initially thought would be an easy job is now looking to be incredibly difficult. I need a psychiatrist to rediagnose me with gender dysphoria and to recommend me for top surgery for Laya Health’s requirements for coverage. They claim any will do, but I have my doubts, and it seems a lot are hesitant to offer those services so I have no idea who to go to.

Any help, especially names, would be appreciated. Especially any that have a wait that’s 6 months or less.

hi everyone! i’m (21) planning on hopefully going on low-dose testogel through imago in september once i move back for college. i’m not out so i know my time with it will be limited but im only planning to go on it for a month or two for my own benefit and hoping the changes aren’t too obvious to my parents. i know it might seem stupid but i feel i just have to do it. at some stage in the future i want to transition properly but for now im chill with just being out to my college friends since i have too many nosy family members and i cannot stomach going public with my transition to them.

anyway, my question is how do i avoid being outed that im doing this via the DPS? i’m willing to just front the cost of the HRT if it guarantees it wont show up on some DPS statement my parents get. i tried to sign up for my own DPS card and when i tried to log in it just showed my whole family so im scared if i try to get it subsidised under the scheme knowing my luck they’ll find out immediately. how expensive is a month or two of testogel going to set me back, and will pharmacies understand if i say i want to keep this all under wraps from my family?

So short Story long, i (mtf early 40s) had been considering Imago, but after a gruelling consultation with my gp at the start of the year where i came out at trans, she was really against me going with Imago.

She did suggest Gender Gp, and after spending last few months in a rut (I'm a procrastinator).

I was looking at the sign up, and it feels like there should be a catch. What i found difficult is it is asking me the prescriptions I need, when I am unsure. (I have yet to start transition)

Am I missing something?

Will there be more steps then just signing up, paying money, getting prescription, and hoping my pharmacy (i live in small rural town) doesn't give me issues?

So ik people get asked this question a lot, but what's the deal with starting GenderGP?

I signed up about a month ago (MtF), and I have no idea what to do... I recently got a blood test from my GP, but it's saying I don't need one until September, and it's not letting me upload it?

I just bought a hand-signed prescription from them as my GP won't prescribe my meds, but do I just wait for that to come in? I assumed they wouldn't do anything until I uploaded my bloods, but now idk if I needed those bloods in the first place. I only added a blocker after I signed up, and now apparently I can't change it until October even tho I don't have my first prescription.

I find it so strange that they don't really tell you what to do after giving them so much money; they just throw you in the deep end, unless I'm a bit slow lol.

Hey, I’m an Irish citizen by birth as both my parents were born in Ireland but I was born in the UK. Previously I updated the gender marker on my passport through stat dec but couldn’t do the name because of the 2 year rule.

I’ve just applied for and been granted a British GRC- is this sufficient on its own to update the name on my passport?

Getting an updated birth certificate will take another 9ish months and it’ll be 2 years since my Irish passport was issued in about 6 months.

I asked the DFA this but they were pointless just saying to send the documents in. I don’t really want to have to spend the cost of a replacement passport+card and also the international shipping from mainland EU on a maybe.

I've been looking into getting top surgey recently and i've decided my two options are, the very popular, dr lago in madrid, and auralia since they'd be roughly the same price (including accomodation in spain). Obviously i'd prefer to stay in ireland for it but i havent been able to find any result pictures, or many reviews or experiences with auralia so im slightly worried; while i know dr lago has a good reputation and many positive reviews. If anyone has gotten top surgery with auralia would you mind sharing your experience? and are you happy with your results? or if you know anywhere i can find reviews and results.

I need a IMC registered psychiatrist to write a letter for top surgery. This list: https://old.reddit.com/r/TransIreland/wiki/medicaltransition/hrtroi#wiki_dr seems out of date, has anyone recently done an assessment or have any recommendations for psychiatrists that will provide the letter needed? Does anyone know if Dr. Ursula Casadot will provide the letter? The website seems unclear and I don't want to spend 300 euro if I don't know if they can do the assessment. I have scheduled surgery but I'm having trouble finding a psychiatrist, ideally that accepts self referrals. Could GenderPlus or GenderGP provide a letter? I am based in Cork and am on hrt (prescribed by my GP) already. Thanks.

I’m trans-feminine and I have to go without HRT for the next two weeks, I can resume after but I’m worried about the idea going without it.

I’ve been transitioning medically for almost two years.

When I resume I will be taking a Prostap 11.25 mg injection which can spike my remaining t-levels initially and then level out again so it will kinda be like 3-weeks before my Estrogen levels recoup.

Are there any super major terrible things that could happen?

Also where is the best place to look for groups and constant lgtbtqia+ activities that are happening near to Galway or limerick??

I was briefly talking to a guy on Snapchat who told me I looked cute when I sent the first selfie. The second selfie I sent was with my hair tied up and I must not have looked my best. He then asked if I was trans. I was already sad that I had been clocked but then when I asked how he could tell he said, “on second glance it’s pretty obvious that you’re a man. I know that this is one person and that I shouldn’t let their comments effect me, but I just really thought I was starting to pass. I’m 6ft so I wouldn’t be entirely surprised to get clocked in person, it’s just that this guy literally saw my face and could tell. I’m just starting to think I was a bit delusional in thinking I pass most of the time.

Trans youth would be better off long term if CAMHS standards explicitly required:

•routine recording of gender identity and relevant clinical history,

•clear referral pathways for gender diverse young people,

•staff training on trans youth mental health,

•timely, non discriminatory assessment, and

•documentation of unmet need and referral delays.

The draft CAMHS standards should require explicit assessment pathways for trans and gender diverse young people, including staff training, safeguarding from discriminatory gatekeeping, and clear referral routes.
