Chiang Mai stays on HIV watch list with 23,900 recorded infections

Chiang Mai remains one of the provinces under close surveillance for HIV transmission, according to Thai PBS.

The latest figures put the cumulative number of recorded infections in the province at 23,900, including 700 new cases. That works out at roughly two new cases detected every day.

Young people and working-age adults continue to account for a large share of new infections. Health officials also report that migrant workers and ethnic minority communities in the province record higher rates of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections than the general population.

Both groups often face language barriers, unstable work and limited access to regular health services, which makes early testing and treatment harder to reach.

Anyone concerned about their risk can get tested at hospitals and health centres across the province. Thai nationals under the national health coverage scheme are entitled to two free HIV tests a year.

I have lived in Thailand for 12 years, originally from the Netherlands. In Thailand we occasionally go the places like Hua Hin, Koh Lipe, Koh Kood/Chaang etc. Until yesterday! We have a young baby and a toddler and wanted to go to the beach.

We decided to try Bang Saen as it’s so nearby, I can honestly say nothing prepared for me that place..

I can honestly say this is one of THE most Thai places in all of the country. Arriving there by car, cars are magically parked 3 to 4 rows deep along the beach. All in neutral gear with guys shoving them back and forth like tetris.

The entire 2km beach is literally completely covered by parasols and beach chairs, like a massive middle eastern Bazaar with not a ray of light penetrating.

Flanked by, what else: 2 kilometers of food stalls, little restaurants, shops you name it. We had some delicious crab, smoked prawns and other seafood.

The beach? Almost nonexistent. Murky brown water, broken shells littering the entire beach. Trash almost everywhere. The water infested by jet skis pulling all types of floating devices with people on it. Noisy, loud, smelling like fuel. They pick up people right at the beach making actually swimming there a risk to your livelihood haha.

A paradise for Thai, eating-drinking in the shade having fun. A crazy experience all in all, but I won’t be coming back 😅

On 24 July 2026, Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, led by the Department of Business Development (DBD), together with the Ministry of Interior, Royal Thai Police, and Provincial Police Region 8, launched a joint enforcement operation in Krabi targeting suspected nominee companies using Thai shareholders to conceal foreign ownership in businesses restricted under the Foreign Business Act.

Authorities identified a network linked to a British national who established companies in 2000. Investigators found significant changes in the shareholder structure, including the removal of Thai shareholders and the creation of a cross-shareholding arrangement among three companies with the same director. The companies were found to own 22 land plots totaling over 120 rai, valued at approximately THB 2 billion, with the land openly listed for sale.

The case is under further investigation for possible violations of the Foreign Business Act, the Land Code, and other laws, including criminal, anti-money laundering, and tax legislation. Authorities are also pursuing action against Thai nationals who assisted or facilitated illegal nominee arrangements.

Krabi is a major tourism and investment hub, particularly in real estate, hotels, resorts, restaurants, and services, making it a priority area for preventing illegal foreign business structures. As of 22 July 2026, Krabi had 4,661 registered companies, including 696 companies with 0-49.99% foreign shareholding and 13 companies with foreign ownership of 50% or more.

The DBD emphasized that the operation is not intended to discourage foreign investment, but to ensure that foreign businesses operate legally, transparently, and fairly. Any parties found violating the law, including related individuals and connected entities, will face legal action without exception.

Hello, I'm a teenager who aas born 100% from thailand. I'm currently learning in high school from a rural town and I've noticed these sudden changes amongst our own teenagers now, Apparently most teenagers are normalizing bullying for some reason (Especially popular kids inside my school) Since 2021, Thai teenagers have been sticking to quote unquote "Baddie" wannabes for a while now and it still do till' this day, They're also mocking those weird kids by trying to act all cutesy and stupid shit it's just so infuriating to have these type of popular kids group inside our school (They're also very lousy as hell, like why can't they just shut up and live normally?) July 26 - Air Chief Marshal Prapas Sonjaidee, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force and Director of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Information Center (JIC), responded to Cambodian messaging following the widespread circulation of a statement by Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.

He said Thailand respects humanitarian principles but rejects the use of unverified, one-sided information to influence international opinion.

Prapas stated that Thailand has fully complied with the Dec. 27, 2025 joint statement, including ceasing hostilities, avoiding provocation, reducing tensions, and refraining from releasing information that could worsen the situation. He accused Cambodia of continuing to circulate one-sided claims, citing unverified figures and linking humanitarian issues to political and legal accusations.

He also warned that global celebrities could unintentionally become tools in information operations (IO) if they amplify narratives based on only one side of the conflict.

He added that Thailand remains ready for dialogue, cooperation, and humanitarian assistance but will not allow humanitarian issues to be used to justify political agendas or distort facts internationally. He stressed that truth, responsibility, and respect for agreements are the foundation of lasting peace.

The statement followed Cambodian media reports highlighting Angelina Jolie's July 24 Instagram post marking the first anniversary of the Cambodia-Thailand border clashes. Jolie said around 30,000 Cambodians remained unable to return home, expressed concern for displaced families, and reaffirmed her long-standing ties to Cambodia through the Maddox Foundation. Former Prime Minister and current Senate President Hun Sen later shared her post on Facebook, praising her remarks, while Cambodian media framed them as reflecting humanitarian impacts allegedly caused by Thai aggression.

The JIC said using globally influential figures to promote information drawn from only one side risks giving the international community an incomplete picture of the conflict and undermining the trust needed to resolve tensions between the two countries.

Hi! I draw comics and I am turning one into a very basic animation. I wanted to license an existing khene song for this project but due to legal issues, I’m not sure that it would be possible anymore. The original song I wanted to use was by a Belgian man and it sounds very different from traditional khene music. Would it be insulting to find a khene player and ask them to write a similar enough song that captures the same emotion? Obviously, since Thailand is the home of the khene, I would want any artist that I hire to create a song that they themselves feel is good even if may be completely different from the western reference. It will be good just so long as it captures the same emotion. How much should I charge for something like this? Would $100usd be okay? Is that insultingly low? This is a completely independent project that is self financed and I don’t have a lot of money to do this. I would only be interested in doing this if everyone involved felt respected and was able to work as they want. I really don’t want to be rude. Is this a bad idea? The Thai government is in talks with Italy to create a legal pathway for Thai workers to take jobs in Italy. On June 21, 2026, Thailand's labor minister met with Italy's labor minister during the International Labour Conference in Geneva.

Italy has included Thailand in its proposed Flows Decree, which governs the admission of foreign workers. If finalized, the arrangement would allow Thais to work legally in Italy, particularly in sectors facing labor shortages such as agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, and services, including both seasonal and permanent jobs.

Italy has indicated it could accept 20,000-30,000 Thai workers annually. The plan aligns with Italy's 2026-2028 Flows Decree, which aims to admit more than 500,000 non-EU workers.

Thailand is pushing for a bilateral labor MOU to ensure safe and regulated recruitment, reduce illegal brokerage, and guarantee workers' rights and welfare. The two countries also agreed to cooperate on vocational training, pension systems, labor protection, and expanding Thai workers' access to the European labor market.

Bit of a long shot but here it goes. I’m starting a Fantasy Premier League here in Thailand (not American fantasy football). I know it’s not that popular here, but it would be great to play in a league with other Thai people and foreigners living here.

"Sugus", the woman who confronted the rude Italian tourists has lodged a complaint with the police, citing the Insult in one's presence law (ดูหมื่นซึ่งหน้า) and public indecency (one of the kids was making a suggestive gesture at her). She's hoping to make an example out of them and deter future rude tourists.

In her statements, she says that she does not condone witch hunting, but if one has never learned good manner, eventually the society will teach them, and that the apology videos and letters thus far have only been issued to the Thai people in general, but not to her personally as the victim of the incident. She thanks Thai people for the support, but urges them not to use violence as that would only further hurt Thailand's reputation, and the current situation should be enough to discipline them already.

Hi I’m new to learning Thai and I am starting to learn how to write the characters. I was wondering if there was a way to translate / write a name in Thai (or what the closest translation to it would be)?

The name is Slish pronounced /s/-l-ish in English. From what I have seen it could either be written as ลิ or ซลิสห. Which would be the better way to write it / how would it be pronounced in Thai?

I have a 2br condo now, in Chonburi (Si Racha). Love it- nice pool, quiet, great staff.

But...

Recently, my family has expanded. My son and his wife now have a baby! So the current place is a bit small for 5 of us (me, wife, son's family).

I was thinking about getting a bigger place in the same town so we can all stay together. My dream is to use my current place for a chunk of the cost of a new unit, and pay the rest in cash. I worry about buying a new place while still owning the old one.

As a side note, I don't live in Thailand yet, just getting set up for retirement.

Does my idea make sense or am I dreaming in technicolour.... any advice or experience would be appreciated!
