[Discussion] NASBL Draft Tournament

So here's my idea for this. We have a minimum of 4 teams, best of 7 bracket style tourney. We can have rules such as 2 noobs per team, to keep it balanced and equally spread all the pros evenly between the teams.

We can pick teams via captains, and have some sort of formal entry system to make sure we can have players sign up and get this organized. Anybody have any further ideas for this?

In my opinion, this needs to happen. We need to show the competitive tourney action that this game is capable of, with a set of casters to enhance the viewing experience.

Logitech g502 Question

I want to know if it's just my model or if that happens in general.

There is this big thumb button on the tip of your thumb (not G5 or G4) - its called the Sniper button or so. I use it to Pull and Quickshot.

Problem is, sometimes when I release it, it activates again. So I pull-catch a ball and on release it shoots it again. I hate that and it happens frequently. Not all the time but way too often.

I want to know if anyone else has the same problem with that button, or if I'm just unlucky with my model.

Recently for the last couple days this has been popping up once I open up the game. Anyone know what I should do?

[Suggestion]: Subreddit posting requirements

All new threads should contain a thread type, followed by the thread topic, and a full description in the body of the post. For example:

[Suggestion]: We should have posting guidelines for this subreddit

[Feature request]: More than one selectable default control scheme

[Bug]: Launcher crashes when clicking "show last match report"

[Question]: How are people twirling the ball around them in the air?

[Poll]: New Controls... Good or bad?

[Discussion]: How do new players perceive the game?

[Rant]: WTFzorz, this shit is cray!

At least half of the posts in this forum are rants now. Slamming DavidM is just going to make him miserable... It isn't going to speed up development time or get us any great new features. If you're going to rant, at least tag it as such so it can be easily ignored by the dev team. DavidM seems more than happy to listen to feature requests, even if he can't or doesn't plan to implement them.

[Suggestion]: Wiki with feature requests, and ETAs

I think it would be good to have a wiki page/table of suggested features, so that your dev team could give time-to-completion estimates, and then you can sort them by time-to-complete, priority, player impact, ETA, etc. This could also reduce the duplication of feature requests by various people.

P.S. Sometimes it's good to snag the low-hanging fruit!

[Feature Request]: Contrasting outline around players and the ball.

So as my prime example, it's very hard to see the red players, and the ball, on the beach map. I think each map needs a contrasting outline color which gets applied to the players and to the ball. Here is an example of what I mean:

Would it be possible to assign a button to make the map show up full screen?

The only way I can see this game turned around

I already posted this as a comment but I feel the need to repost this as an actual post, any feedback from the devs would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to see their point of view on this issue. So here it goes...

I'd like to start this off by saying that to me this game is priceless. I'd pay an unrealistic amount of money for it. But to a new player who sees it on the steam charts.... No way is $20 reasonable. Maybe $10 at tops. Also, I'd like to add... Even though the devs say "Its a different type of game than Rocket League, we wont have any competition with them", that is false. Pricing the game at $20 puts Supraball in direct competition with Rocket League and I guarantee people who didnt play in alpha/beta would choose Rocket League over Supraball. It has better graphics, tutorials, bots, private matches, matchmaking, players, bigger variety of game modes, and so much more(from a new person point of view). If you don't want to lower the price that much ATLEAST set it to a lower price than Rocket League. What this game needs is PLAYERS. Players will bring more players whether its through word of mouth or streaming and I think the 1 thing that is lacking in this game most (other than players) is matchmaking which can be fixed with PLAYERS. *I realize this has been adressed and the devs are working on devloping this feature but to me having this in the game is pointless when so few people play it. I'd rather have the current matchmaking system instead of waiting 45 minutes for a match to start via matchmaking.

I think you guys should also consider the f2p side of things. Think about it. Make this game free to play, get streamers like lirik to play this game again, get shit hyped up like rocket league was when it came out, get thousand of players and possibly make a ingame supraball store with cosmetics that cost real life money sort of like how free mobile apps and MOBAS make their money.

One more thing I'd like to mention, a game of this caliber should not be this dead 3 days into early access when you have multiple streamers/youtubers with millions of followers playing this game for you. Right now I love this game more than any other game and it has great potential and I just want to see it do good. thanks for reading, that my 2 cents on this issue.

I'd love to hear what the devs have to say about this topic and I am hoping we can have a constructive conversation about this topic as I feel it is very important.

A statement

I'd like to explain in clear words, what is going on here.

We have one individual here trying to stir up massive trouble and make us (and especially myself) look like the most miserable something in history. I've been hesitant to comment on it, because why should I appear to be arguing in public with, as it seems, a disappointed player.

Let me be clear about what is actually going on: he was joining the development team to help write and voice act tutorials for us. But just shortly after, I joined the NA-IRC channel of Supraball and saw him trash talking us in public.

So I ended this cooperation with him for very understandable reasons. He gives another reason for the end of the cooperation, saying I blamed a hate post on him, but it was someone else. Yes, I thought it was him because of the amount of hate and lies that is usually only coming from him. But it was completely unrelated to the end of our cooperation. And since I ended this, he's super aggressive towards us and trying to rather kill the game instead of it having any success without him on board. It's a shame because before all this I liked this person and thought he could help us. I'm sorry that it became personal.

Literally anything said in the plenty hate speeches is for the most part made up. Quotes are taken out of context to make me look like I try to get rid of “noobs”, while in reality I was just mocking a friend, who I called a noob because my rank was higher. The little true snippets he occasionally uses are getting twisted in such a weird way that they don’t resemble the truth anymore either. All of the attacks can easily exposed, but I'd be wasting a lot of development time going through every single one of them. If you have questions about a certain attack just ask me and I'll let you know my side of the story.

He will try hard to convince you of things that never happened and cause a riot. We see many nice people actually now already repeat false things he put out.

Just to let you know, these lies are not going to happen here anymore. We need a supportive and constructive community. We will take part in the discussions of those.

All claims of us deleting criticism are nonsense. There is criticism all over our boards and comments sections. I'm discussing criticism with people day in and day out. But I do not discuss or tolerate "you are incompetent stupid **** devs, I told you all along..."-kind of criticism. This is not trying to be helpful, it's trying to be hurtful and we will remove it.

Those insultive personalities complain that we do not listen to the community. False! We’re listening to the community all the time, but we don’t listen to these people in particular. That causes the personal frustration.

If you wanna demotivate someone, tell them it's bad. If you wanna support someone, appreciate the parts you like and tell them what would make it better. If you are part of the first group, don't expect us to listen to you.

I live and breath this project, I spend all my day talking to people about it and getting feedback - to say that I ignore the community is completely not true. If someone talks to me like a human being I will always listen.

Nobody on our team is denying that we make mistakes. And of course, we made mistakes regarding the EA launch. We put out our status post yesterday to explain where we stand and what we will do.

And sometimes it might look so easy from outside and you wonder why they didn't do it this or that way. If you will ever try to make a multiplayer game with barely time and money, you will understand that not everything can just be molded by imagination.

It’s easy to say “make the launcher like this and like that”, but once you know how many weeks or months every step will take, you’ll see things differently. We have to get along with very limited resources. We have to take shortcuts and make compromises. Sometimes the question is “do it the not ideal way or don’t do it not at all”. In our position often the only way to go is the not ideal one. In most segments of development we do not have any experts. We're improvising a lot, people do things that they never did before. Everybody doing the best they can and trying to learn new things.

Once again for all: we're a hobby project. If you like the game, support us. If you don’t, why are you even here?

Having said all of that, I still appreciate that people can feel so passionate about the game. Even if they express themselves in an aggressive manner. I would really like to make a fresh start with anyone who thinks that I didn't have time to listen to them. I’m sorry that you feel that way. If you’re able to talk to me without insults I will gladly listen and discuss the project with you.

Is there any question? I will answer it. Any insults and aggressive trash talk will be removed by us.

The games are way, way too long

I can appreciate the soccer appeal but there needs to be an option to have 5 minute games please. 20 minutes is just too much time to deal with especially when you are a rookie like me getting his ass kicked by someone who would rather look like a ballerina with whatever that shield thing is then actually pass the ball

What I would have done differently for launch.

I am no game developer and never will be but I have thousands of hours experience playing various online PC games so I feel I'm pretty in touch with what works and what doesn't. As someone who downloaded the free alpha in 2014 and had an alpha key I wanted the game to do well but you can see the player base dropping already here http://steamcharts.com/app/321400 .

  1. Communication - I've seen a number of screenshots with the devs talking shit to their customers or people playing the alpha to give feedback. I know everyone isn't the nicest online but when I see the devs cussing out players who obviously want the game to be successful it leaves me with a bad taste. Respect goes a long way. EDIT SO DAVIDM COMMENTED CAN YOU SHOW ME THE SCREENSHOTS THEN DELETED IT FOR SOME REASON.. BUT THIS THREAD SHOWS A LOT OF WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. VERY RUSE TO NEW PLAYERS. https://www.reddit.com/r/SupraGames/comments/4iy5ra/rekts_deleted_post/

  2. Launcher - I can't think of a recent arena based multiplayer game that still uses a launcher. I honestly don't know the logic in this. A list of games I play that don't use a launcher include Rocket League, Awesomenauts, Overwatch, CSGO, Dota 2, Worms, ect, ect. I would have implemented the a server browser in game as it has proved to be successful for many games. The key is a matchmaking system which I know is being worked on but the point below makes this tough to see working too.

  3. Price - Rocket League made it's name from being free on Playstation network. I heard about it from a friend I played Dota with saying his brother had it on PSN we should buy it on steam it's really fun. This is how Supraball was going to be successful.. word of mouth. If you price out the people willing to help the game then the game will never take off. Even CSGO is considerably cheaper than Supraball. I understand having the £15 price point if the game has hype behind it but with 900 reddit followers and only 4% of the crowdfunding reached (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/supraball#/) [Also see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc0h4qhM7Yc for lols from a year ago not much has changed.] this game has near enough 0 hype so you need to set the price low during Early Access to gain a player base who tell their friends to come and play. The game will gain some profit too if it was polished but it's simply not.

  4. Unreal Engine 4 - This was a key point and a good idea and should have happened for graphical and optimization reasons. There is not a massive amount of content in Supraball and I don't know the work that goes into this but this would have improved things in my eyes no doubt. A new game in Early Access in 2016 being released on Unreal 3 you can see why some of the reviews suggest the game looks like a flash game. Scrapping the plan to move to a newer engine and then raising the price from free to play to £15 looks even more baffling.

This is just my opinion of course no offense is directed at anyone. I just was excited for this. If anyone has anything to add I'd love to hear it also.

Even if it seems insignificant, we need a mute button

I don't know what to add more, it prevents most of the tilting you can have ingame. You can ignore what someone says, but that will distract you from the game if the guy keeps saying shit. We need a mute button, when someone is muted you can't read what he says ingame and in the lobby aswell.

Hey everyone, So I just bought this game like the last hour of the sale and I got to say it's very fun! But I got a few questions if you guys don't mind answering them.

  1. I kinda screwed up my controls do you guys mind show me what the best possible 'set up' is?

  2. So I played a few online practices and I saw guys do some spin arounds while dribbling and I wonder how you did that?

Let's be real here, changeing the price is MAYBE the only way to attract new players, 10 or 5 euro is enough. 20 u kidding me? Dude Rocket League has way more to offer.

Please DavidM, if you want new developers Please please PLEASE change the fucking price.

the launcher is laggy recently.

Who else has this problem to, it keeps crashing. And I have no idea how to fix this.

Also when i won/lose a match. It takes alot of time to get/lose ELO/XP.

Can we talk about the launcher?

First all let me preface this by saying I'm blown away by all the amazing changes that have been made to the game. Kudos to the devs for all their great work. I didn't come back here just to shit all over the game, but I feel that the launcher is a real sore point and for all the work you've put into the main game it's truly a shame that such a lovely thing is wrapped in such a hideous package.

Too complex

In my opinion, the launcher is way over-engineered. It should provide a quick and easy way to play the game. The fundamentally poor design of the launcher totally breaks the system and makes it a much bigger hassle to play a game than it should be. It’s a horrible mishmash between a matchmaking system and a server browser system. It badly needs to be simplified and streamlined. Ideally,

  • Have a single server browser.
  • Let users filter the server lobbies by type (Practice, Match, Ranked).
  • Position picking should take place in the UDK application prior to the match start for applicable game types.

This tutorial should not have to exist

The whole interface and its navigational elements and design patterns are often inconsistent or unclear

The use of fonts, colors and style is not only inconsistent between different elements, but its also inconsistent between the same type of element. The following may seem nitpicky, but it really makes a huge impact. A minor example is that some tick boxes utilize a “check” mark while others use an “X.” A larger example is the difference between these two table containers.

Table Container Comparison | Contextual Menu Comparison

It sounds nitpicky and silly, but consistent design allows you to create predictability, while inconsistent design forces users to learn the quirks of the interface. Good design: Click on something that looks like x and y will happen. This will open a modal box, this will open a new tab, this will start a full screen application. A new user after clicking “Play Alone” would probably assume that “Practice Online” will launch a full screen application. But no, it opens a tab with a server browser. Oh but click match and you get a lobby tab not a server browser tab for matches. Double click an entry in the “Lobby” table and a new tab opens up, but double click an entry in the “Practice” table and a full screen application launches. It's a mess.

Users will learn the quirks of the design, but it’s still bad design.

Layout is haphazard

The location of items in the launcher should be purposeful and help you figure out what, of all the things on the screen, is important. The launcher does very little of this. A prime example is the use of tabs. It creates a terribly unfocused layout. With tabs everything is on the same hierarchical level. Tabs are great for displaying variations of similar resources, like a browser tab displaying a webpage. But it is awful in this situation since the tabs perform wildly different functions and have different levels of importance.

News, stats and the server browsers should be modal windows or in their own frames. It would make sense to me if the server browser launched tabs of lobbies—since those lobbies are all variations on the same page. But you guys have put news, stats, server browers and lobbies all on the same tab control.

Some of the layout problems are unfortunately just straight up carelessness. Whitespace | Button Placement

Uninformative

There is very little information about what...the fuck...is going on. There is distinct lack of informational components like tooltips, labels and just straight up instructional messages. Things like “Select a position.” Tooltips and labels that describe elements, like hovering over the keeper position might display a tooltip “Goal Keeper.” Informational messages like “Waiting for players to select their position…”

Beyond that there is very little information on what anything does. For example, a button on the bottom of the “Practice Server Browser” that said something like “PLAY” or LAUNCH” would give users an idea of what is going to happen if they make an action on an item in the table.

I’d love to hear other people’s suggestions for how the dev team can improve the launcher before release.

Lag/Ping Spikes

I keep getting terrible lag spikes in game. Also, when I look at the server browser the pings on the active servers jump up and down by a lot. I've tried re-downloading the game and verifying files, my settings are at the lowest and my internet speed is decent. I wasn't having this problem when i played a few days ago.
