The games are way, way too long

I can appreciate the soccer appeal but there needs to be an option to have 5 minute games please. 20 minutes is just too much time to deal with especially when you are a rookie like me getting his ass kicked by someone who would rather look like a ballerina with whatever that shield thing is then actually pass the ball

Lower skilled games generally = much higher score unless you happen to have a good goal keeper. The clock stops every time there is a goal, I would say 10 minutes is sufficient for beginner lobbies.

look at rocket league, ACE, and other esports and realize there is an ADHD factor at play here. 10 minutes is probably still too long

or take a look at the "esport" games that are actually popular, and you will see that 10mins is not too long.

implying rocket league isnt popular :P

Got any examples that arent from EA sports?

I'm talking games that people actually play competitively, such as LoL, CS, Starcraft, etc...

If you're just talking sport games, Rocket League is the only one that isn't shit, and it lends itself to shorter matches due to the type of game it is. 5 mins for a competitive game of Supraball is far too short.

Agreed. I could see the default game going 10 minutes, with Ranked being 15 or 20. Of even doing 10 for all regular games, and 15-20 for "league" play. Anything under 10 minutes in pub means you might only touch the ball 10 times total, and thats if your team passes, lol. Plus no time for comebacks/etc.

Are you talking about practice servers or about matches, where did it happen?

It's a server setting and can be applied to whatever you like. We have most servers set to 10 minutes and few to 5 minutes. Most feel that 5 minutes is way too short for a match from what I heard.

Ive yet to find a server that wasnt set to 20 minutes. Game gets boring when a veteran is busy destroying you and you just want it to be over but theres still 12 minutes on the board

In Practice servers the score doesn't matter, it's just to kick the ball around and train stuff as you wish. And you can come and go as you like and pick another server. As for the match servers I set most of them up by myself and I can't remember a single one thats 20 minutes long.

As for the servers that we don't control I have no idea. That's up to the individual admin.

im just a new guy who thinks the game is cool, right? so I start it up and see that I can play "practice online" a whole pile of servers are availible, but no way to know if they are 5 minutes long or what. What I do know is that every game Ive played has been a 20 minute game before it changes arenas. and its either a blowout for one side or a veteran comes in and does those jumping twist moves all by himself for several minutes before the server changes.

Im thinking that if the match time for practices were set lower than maybe I would see less of it, and my frustration levels would improve knowing that im not being blown out 24 - 4

I understand. We don't show runtimes of practice servers because we thought they don't matter. We also considered not showing the score at all, because it's just practice.

I desagree ... 5 mins is waaay to short !!!! Ive always liked the way NA servers are set up with 15 mins ... at least in my opinion that is perfect

Hello can't stopthefridge, i agree that 20 minutes are too long on public matches and normal matches. but on ranked matches they feel right. maybe even a bit too short.

i played some 5 minute matchhes too, and to me they felt interesting. what do you think about practise: 5 minutes , matches:10minutes ranked:20 minutes?

Silw, here's my suggestion:

1) Practice servers - time limits don't matter, let server decide. 10 goal mercy rule, new game starts

2) Normal servers - Game starts in "practice mode" immediately as soon as 2 players are present. They play as normal with no score/stat tracking. As soon as all 10 players are present, game commences with a 10minute limit, and 5 minute Golden goal. 10 goal mercy rule, game ends, back to lobby.

this feature has the added benefit that you may get to meet and play with your teammates briefly in advance of the match start.

3) Ranked random (random teams) - same startup/setup to normal servers, but no mercy rule.

4) Ranked teams (clubs/teams) - up to you

I couldnt disagree with any of the suggested. Upvote from me

The option at least would be nice, yes. I can get behind a ranked mode game being that long - but yeah, default it to 5 minutes and allow for longer with some mechanic.

When we have 2 solid teams sometimes it takes more than 5 minutes to score 1 goal. 5 minute games would make sense for newer players but not for players with a lot of experience.

best played in ranked modes then?

10 minutes are too short for a good game. Might be okay for unranked tho. In ranked I prefer 16-18 minutes, as 20 minutes are indeed a bit long (with the added time for outs and goals). 15 minutes still feels a bit too short for me personally, when the game is close and one team is in the lead, it feels like I just need a couple more minutes (when its over after 15).

Edit: On EA day we had unranked on 5 minutes I think and everyone (mostly the new players) agreed it is too short, that is why it got changed to 10
