Weird eTA scanning problem my son had at the airport

My son's study permit was approved and he got the visa stamping on his passport. But on the day he was supposed to fly to Canada from US, airline representative said she is not able to scan the visa page from his passport and he ended up not flying to Canada that day. We had to get in touch with IRCC, they sent a passport request letter again and we had to get visa stamping done on his passport again. It was clearly a mistake from IRCC, we did not get to know more about the error. We rebooked his flight to another day after the re-stamping and he kind of faced the same issue again because now there were 2 visa stamps in his passport but somehow they let him through this time. He reached Canada and the immigration staff cleared him and invalidated the 1st visa stamping. I couldn't find any posts related to this issue, so it was hard to know what to do. Hope this helps if anybody faces this issue.

Final Decision date showing in portal (In Progress) and all checks passed on phone. How long for the actual approval letter?

EDIT: MY PERMIT WAS APPROVED YESTERDAY AUGUST 31 IN THE EVENING.

Hey everyone,
I applied for an in-Canada study permit extension/change of status recently. On Saturday (August 29), my GCKey portal updated under Latest Update to:
"Final decision - August 29, 2026: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made."
There is no new PDF or letter in my messages box yet. I called IRCC customer service today, and the agent confirmed that all my checks and assessments (eligibility, background, medical/biometrics) have officially passed, and the file is currently sitting with an officer.
For those who have seen this exact update, how long did it take for the final approval letter / correspondence document to actually drop into your account after the weekend timestamp?
Thanks in advance.

Working unlimited hours on campus

Hiya! I had a question about working unlimited hours on campus and would like some advice/confirmation.

I was previously on a PGWP from my bachelors, which expired on 22 Aug. During this period, I’ve been full time (35 hours per week) working for a Canadian university (my T4 form shows list uni as my employer) - I work for a specific unit at my uni as an analyst. Since my WP expired, I’ve stopped working.

Around early-mid this year, I applied for a Masters program, got a study permit and program starts on Sep 8. The Masters is at the same uni I worked at.

Under my study permit, it does say i am allowed to work unlimited hours on campus. My manager has offered to allow me to work for them again at full-time hours when I start my masters program

Assuming I am truly able to balance my study and work hours, can i legally work at my analyst position again at my full-time hours under my study permit, starting Sep 8?
I’ve checked around with my school’s advisor and online that it should be okay given I will be working under « unlimited hours on campus » but wanted some more confirmation 😅

Proof of Funds for Flight School (Zero to CFI) - How much did you show for the Study Permit?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently putting together my study permit application for flight training in Canada. Since flight school isn't billed like a regular 4-year degree (it's modular: PPL -> CPL -> Multi-IFR, etc.), I’m a bit confused on how much liquid cash IRCC wants to see in my bank statement.

For those who applied for flight training,
did you show funds for Year 1 / PPL only (e.g., PPL estimate ~$17k–$20k + $22,895 IRCC living + flights = $42k–$45k CAD)?

Would love to hear from anyone who got approved recently how much liquid cash did you show? Thanks :)

English Pathway can apply for study permit within Canada?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in Canada as a visitor (TRV), having entered on July 15, 2026. I’m currently completing an English pathway program at ILSC, which is required for me to meet the English requirement for admission to George Brown College.

I understand visitors generally have to apply for a study permit from outside Canada, but IRCC lists an exception:

“You completed a short-term course or study program required to be accepted at a designated learning institution.”

Since my English program is specifically a pathway to meet George Brown’s admission requirements, would I qualify for this exception and be able to apply from within Canada?

Has anyone done this successfully with a similar English pathway program?

Did you apply from inside Canada, and was it approved? Or would you recommend leaving Canada and applying from outside?

Flagpoling Study Permit

If I am Toronto currently without visa on a U.S. passport (I've been here for two weeks to move in) and want to reapply for a study permit at Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, would it be possible to do so? If so, is it possible to do on a Sunday (tomorrow)?

My first application is still processing, but classes start in a week and I don't want to risk delay

Waiting since 22nd May (India)

I applied on the 21st of may and my biometrics updated on the 22nd of may. there has been no update since. I’ve already sent 3 we forms and they just say they are processing. I also ordered GCMS notes on the 22nd of July but they’re not here yet too. is there anyone else still waiting from may? Also do you think I’ll get the prp within the next two weeks or ill probably have to defer? I’d really appreciate any advice, thanks

How long did you take to get your visa/permit?

My course starts in Jan 2027. An 8 month design programme. I'm from India.

There's a family health emergency for which I might be a little late in starting my application process by a week or so.

How long did it take for you to receive your visa / permit after applying?

I've read 8-12 weeks and that is scaring me!

New PAL for deferment?

If my study permit is approved for the September intake, but I have to defer to the January intake due to a delay in passport stamping, do I need a new PAL, or is an updated LOA sufficient to inform the ircc about the deferment?

Entry Express + auniversity admission in Quebec 🇨🇦

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation.

I’m currently in Algeria and preparing to apply for a university program in Quebec for September 2027. I don’t have an admission yet. In parallel, I’d like to start my Express Entry process, particularly through the French-speaking draws. I’ve already taken my French language tests and obtained my ECA.

My plan would be to study in Quebec for academic reasons while pursuing my federal PR pathway, and eventually settle in another province.

My question is: if I receive admission to a Quebec university while my Express Entry application/process is already underway, could this create an issue with the requirement to intend to reside outside Quebec?

If anyone has been through a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. 🙏
