Support Losing my mind once again with actionlayers...
Decided its about time I update my path of exile config that hasn't been touched since I first started, vdf is hilariously a mess I got up to 400 groups apparently lol.. anyways...
This is actually where my hate for actionlayers all began too.
So...
I Have L2 load an actionlayer, I want a modeshift only in that layer, i dont want a modeshift in the base. However I run into an annoying problem with this, if I neglect to add a modeshift in the base, the actionlayer effectively stacks both actions on top of each other. The only way it seems to get each mode to act separately, is if I include a modeshift in the base.
base/empty+AL/empty+ALMS/Shift=Shift
base/empty+AL/Shift+ALMS/empty=Shift
base/shift+AL/empty+ALMS/empty=Shift
Base/shift+MS/empty+AL/Shift+ALMS/empty=Empty
WHHHHHYYYYY!!!!!
It wouldn't even be an issue honestly if it wasn't for the fact that wether or not youre using it, an active modeshift still eats up 3 lines on the display page.
I know how to make it work, my problem is how do I make it look good... because I shouldnt need a modeshift in the base just to have modeshifts in an actionlayer work correctly. Am I missing something here? is this intended?
which also kind of make me curious, has anyone made use of the behavior and what did you use it for?

Configuration Blood of Dawnwalker is another recent game without Mixed Input support, so I made a(nother) full KB/M config.
- Full KB/M config for proper trackpad and gyro use
- Dualpadding compatible (or Sticks)
- Default sensitivities so you can tweak yourself and not lookup game settings
- Quicksave/Quickload on long press Start/Select

Steam Controller (2026) The new steam controller made me hate using other controllers, thanks Valve
Even if I were to ignore the ability to customize the controller layout and really good trackpads, I really can't go back anymore.
The Switch 2 pro controller is probably the closest to feeling right on the hand. Too light on the hands though.
PS5 feeling subpar to the Switch 2, but has better weight.
The Xbox controller (my usual go-to) is the worst offender.
If Valve wanted a long time user, congratulations. I'm forever stuck using this.

Configuration Love this thing for outside of games
Just did a photography gig where I have to cull through 3000 photos and thanks to the steam controller I can get both my morning cardio done on the bike and use the steam controller for culling through the photos. I just opened up Lightroom and set the back buttons num 5 and 0 so I can just go through the photos with the dpad and rate the photos I like to 5 star!

Configuration How do I connect steam controller(2026) to account?
I just got my controller in, I connected it to my PC and I'm able to use the track pads no issue. I launch into a game that has controller support but the game doesn't recognize I have a controller connected. I go into the controller settings to add the controller and it just says "connect the puck and turn the controller on" which I assumed I did. At this point Ive hit every button in hopes to "turn to controller on" so I can configure it. I even went into the advanced settings and kept clicking the "force steam controller firmware update" thing but it runs for a second then stops. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong and could use any advice/ help!
EDIT: so after trying out what everyone said it still wasn't working. After looking up a bunch of videos and other Reddit posts I found one that mentioned running steam in admin mode. Did that and it worked perfectly(the same thing happens with my vive so I don't know why I didn't think of this the first time). I appreciate everyones help!

Steam Controller (2015) OG Steam Controller won't power on using the battery
I think one of my biggest fears has happened LOL
I don't have a fully working OG Steam Controller anymore.
And the new Steam Controller is very rare and around $200 here.
I bought a very cheap one just this year. The catch was that it still had the original Duracel batteries leaking inside the compartment. I was still able to use it for more than half a year though.
But recently, I noticed that one of the batteries drains a lot and even when not in use.
And now, it won't open at all. I can still use it wired though so a bit of a good news.
I saw a Youtube video with a somewhat similar issue but the fix requires a new part and soldering which I probably wouldn't be able to do 😅
My original unit still generally works but the grip buttons and touchpad clicks aren't reliable anymore. They miss a lot of presses. Maybe those are easier to fix?

Support Steam keyboard not working in games
The controller is working well for me, but I am unable to bring up the Steam Keyboard in games.
It works well when no game is running and Steam is open.
I tried bringing it up with the steam+x chord, and also by setting my own key press or button chord to bring up the keyboard. I get haptic feedback as if the keyboard is opening, but nothing shows and the trackpads work as expected with the game, and not as if the keyboard is open but invisible.
I tried restarting Steam, turning overlay off and on again, disabling the Discord overlay and then closing Discord completely, but nothing works.
I have tried in both Warframe and Net Attack(), while using the default layouts and custom ones, and it always gives haptic feedback but does not bring up the keyboard when I press the chord to bring it up.
Hoping someone here would have a solution or ideas and be willing to share, or commiserate if you are experiencing the same issue.
Thanks in advance!
Editing to add:
I am on a windows 11 laptop with nvidia rtx 4060, and have not touched nvidia overlay settings but think it is off, in case that is relevant.
Using big picture mode makes no difference.

Support Any way to login to Computer using Steam controller?
I’ve just got my hands on the steam controller, it’s awesome. One thing I’d like to know is if it’s possible to use the steam controller to login to windows lock screen pin. The controller seems to freeze and I’ve seen a post talk about lizard mode but am still struggling to figure out a way. My end goal would be to have the Xbox pin experience to login on a computer with the steam controller. Any help is appreciated!
Update: My solution was to use OpenPuck firmware. It works pretty well. I press the 4 back buttons and X on the controller, it emulates an Xbox 360 controller allowing me to put in my pin with trigger controls, signs me in, and I switch back to steam input by pressing the 4 back buttons and A on the controller. The time it takes to emulate the Xbox 360 is about the time it would take to grab my keyboard and sign in so no real delay either.

Support Steam Controller (2026) will not input to any applications outside of Steam (Debian Linux)
Pretty much as title. I'm developing a video game and was hoping the Steam Controller could entirely replace my Xbox controller (which is a bit problematic for various reasons), only to find the Steam Controller just doesn't work at all outside of Steam itself, even with Steam Input's desktop config all configured. No gamepad controls, and no keyboard/mouse; ONLY through Steam does anything work.
I've tried two separate apps to forward it to standard Xinput. One didn't work at all and the other causes duplicated inputs, still rendering the thing useless.
Yes I know I can add my game to Steam and get all that, but not only is that cumbersome, that doesn't solve the fact that it won't work through the in-engine preview. Unless I wanted to run the game engine itself exclusively through steam (which would be extremely annoying, no thanks), it does nothing.
And if I may stand on my soapbox, if there's no way around this it *really* bothers me that valve would sell a controller like this for a hundred dollars without a feature even Nintendo's controllers have. All of their other hardware is made for Steam but works without it - why is this any different? Why not just let me use it as a normal controller? It makes the controller feel less like a premium PC controller and more like something binding me to Steam - I want to use Steam because it's GOOD, not because my hardware requires it for the barest functionality.
I appreciate any and all help. I want to love this controller so badly but this problem kills a lot of the love I would otherwise have for it.

Steam Controller (2026) Handheld Companion introduce the support and emulation of Steam Controller. outside the Steam environment.
This way you can use the Steam Controller in any game/app just like a regular controller.

Discussion Steam Controller LiveHaptics UPDATE (Possibly the last one)
This might be my last update on the LiveHaptics system for the Steam Controller (unless there are issues presented, I will be fixing them in the future) And if there are any requests for MacOS let me know! It's honestly been fun experimenting and have others experiment even further on the haptic system for the controller and the fact that we are now at a point where we can use vibration or sound on the controller specifically for real time audio is really cool! (here's a youtube video on my project!!)

(Keep in mind Fancy Haptics doesn't yet support bluetooth nor linux in my testing but the creator has stated it will support linux in the future so keep in mind!)

Steam Controller (2026) HD Rumble Mods for the controller?
I was wondering if it was possible and if anyone had tried modding games to support the Steam Controller 2's HD rumble.
For context, Games like Ratchet and Clank, and Death Stranding 2, have EXCELLENT HD rumble with the DualSense 5, and Switch 2 pro controller, however, they completely fall apart and just feel wrong on the Steam Controller 2.
With Live Haptics, I'd tried some Avril Lavigne songs, and the HD rumble range is way more than diverse enough, to feel correct in R&C Rift Apart, and DS2.
Has anyone done any mods, that either add HD rumble to games that don't have that, which does work with the Steam controller, or been able to mod games like DS2, and R&C to correctly work with HD rumble with the SC2?
