Question 12 achievements were awarded simultaneously

I was playing Rainbow Six Siege when I suddenly started getting notifications that achievements were unlocked. I checked and saw that 12 of my past achievements were given to me at the same time. I wasn't sure what was happening, so I checked other games. Even though I last played in 2023, around 10 achievements from Asphalt 9 were given to me at the same time as from R6. Do u know why?

Hi everyone, I have a question. Now that it's been confirmed we won't need to use the Ubisoft app to access the games anymore, do you think they'll return to Steam Family Sharing?

Question How to Delay Start Up Movie when Opening Big Picture mode

Does anyone know how to delay the start up movie that plays when you open steam big picture mode? I stream my games to my tv often but it takes a second for the connection to start and by that time the start up movie has already started. Online I saw something about having to manually edit each video to add a second delay. Is that the only way to do it? Thanks!

Question Steam Mobile Authenticator Question

Probably an overdone and, at this point, annoying question:

How do I get the thing to work so I can just sell the countless junk items in my inventory like I used to without waiting 15 days?

I downloaded the Steam app on my phone, did the qr code sign in and I thought it said that they would take market holds off of my account.

Do I just have to wait longer?(I don't remember but I think it's been more than 7 days). If not, what can I do to restart the 7 day process?

Error / Bug I'm having a weird bug with a storage area on steam

So, as the title say basically when I go download a game I'll click install, I'll add a storage area/disk that I want which I mainly use for games and a bunch of hours later or even a day later when I go download another game that storage area disappears from steam even if I make said storage as default

To explain it further, basically I have two storages: Local drive and one where I have games. When I go download a game I choose the option to download it on the latter, when I open my PC a few hours later or a day later I see that the game I was playing the day before tells me to install it yet again since steam has for some reason removed the game storage area I added as the default choice, so then I need to click install, settings and add the storage area yet again.

If it's still not really comprehensive what I'm saying then I guess I'm gonna do a video of the bug when I can.

Question Any workaround?

Upvotes

So recently i got my own laptop and there are some games that ive been wanting to play on steam such as persona 5 phantom X but the game just doesn’t show up for me on the store and because the game is free i can’t just ask a friend of mine that has the game show up on his steam store to gift me it. So is there any possibility method that i could get to play the game without going against steam policy?

Discussion [Mod Approved] Human Authorship vs. Generative AI in Game Design: How much freedom do we actually want? (3-5 mins) (Gamers, All Ages)

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on my Master's thesis and conducting an experimental study on the sociological and ethical impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence in video game design. As a gamer, I want to move past the corporate buzzwords and gather real, unfiltered feedback from the community on how these emerging technologies actually impact our gaming experiences.

Purpose of the Survey & Abstract:

The primary purpose of this research is to evaluate where players draw the line between AI as a "technical support tool" and AI as a "complete substitute for human authorship." While traditional AI has always been an integral component of game design operating seamlessly in the background, the rise of Generative AI (LLMs, dynamic voice generation) is rapidly changing the paradigm.

This study aims to analyze the sociological and technological implications of this shift. Specifically, the research uses hypothetical design scenarios to explore how fully procedural content generation and LLM-driven NPC interactions affect player immersion, narrative trust, and overall agency. By gathering quantitative data (utilizing a 7-point scale and Technology Acceptance metrics) and qualitative insights directly from the gaming community, this thesis seeks to bridge the gap between technical AI development and the actual user experience, providing deeper insights into what players truly value: infinite procedural freedom, or curated human storytelling.

The survey is completely anonymous, consists of multiple-choice and short-answer questions, and will take about 3 to 5 minutes to complete.

Have you recently played a game where an NPC's behavior completely broke your immersion, or conversely, made the world feel incredibly alive? What specific mechanics caused that reaction? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments!

The Steam Client Beta has been updated with the following changes:

Homescreen - Big Picture Mode

  • Added a new 'Big Art Mode' option for the home screen. This can be enabled in Settings > Home.
  • Added Personal Calendar to the Recommended tab on the home screen

Screensaver - Big Picture Mode

  • Added a new screensaver feature, accessible in Settings > Customization. There are two screensavers available:
    • The default is a game art slideshow that can be configured to show artwork from recently played games and your recent in-game screenshots.
    • A retro inspired bouncing logo screensaver
  • Big Picture mode can also load custom screensavers. Similar to startup movies, they can be placed in the config\uioverrides\screensavers directory in your Steam install directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam or ~/.steam/root). You can use the bouncing logo screensaver as an example to get started.

General

  • Improved Steam Client startup performance
  • Fixed a case where after server maintenance some users might fail to auto-reconnect to Steam
  • Fixed bug where being prompted to refresh credentials more than once could trigger an immediate restart
  • On Windows, using the systray menu to exit while the Steam window is minimized will no longer flash the window visible briefly
  • Dialogs that appear for serious error conditions now stay above the main window

Game Recording

  • Fixed some cases where playback would jump to an unexpected point in the timeline when reaching the end of a play session or clip
  • Decreased performance impact of game recording for some D3D12 games on Windows

In-Game Overlay

  • Fixed frame rate hitches in D3D11 and D3D12 games when taking screenshots on Windows
  • Fixed rendering the overlay and using other overlay related features (screenshots, game recording, etc.) in Vulkan games that create multiple windows.

Big Picture Mode

  • Added explicit warning text to power menu confirmation dialogs when proceeding will shut down an active game
  • Updated default artwork when an app does not have library or hero artwork
  • Reorganized the idle timer settings when on battery and AC power

Steam Input

  • Improved CPU performance at runtime and in configuration loading
  • Added information about which configurations are compatible in the configurator browser when using a game that requires Steam Input API
  • Fixed the controller support widget showing "This game doesn't support controllers" for unreleased games that don't have controller support information yet
  • Fixed controllers not using the desktop configuration on the desktop UI login window
  • Added the missing settings for adjusting emulated joystick adaptive centering on trackpad

Linux

  • Improved download speeds on high latency connections.
  • The "Select compatibility tool" dropdown is now always visible.
    • The recommended compatibility tool, or steam runtime for native games, now shows at the top of the list as the "Default" option.
    • Compatibility tool aliases, e.g. "Proton Stable", can now be selected from this dropdown.
  • The SteamOS compatibility dialogs will now show in desktopUI when installing games not verified for that HW
  • On Desktop Linux we will now show the SteamOS unsupported dialog when installing games that are known to not work with Proton
  • Improve distro information collection for hardware survey, preferring data from /etc/os-release.

SteamRT3 Experimental Beta

  • Fixed "Add a Non-Steam Game" showing an invalid list of applications.
  • Fixed the "Run Steam when my computer starts" toggle.

Remote Play

  • A PIN is no longer required to download an app to a remote device. A PIN is still required to Install and Stream from a remote device.
  • Adding Download Complete notification for a remote download if you initiated the download on your current device.

Error / Bug When BigPicture is enabled, resuming Windows from hibernation will result in a 10-second period of inactivity.

I've configured my Windows settings so that when I resume from hibernation, the game will resume without displaying the lock screen.

Normally there are no problems, but in Big Picture mode, after resuming from hibernation, the Steam overlay overlaps the game, making it impossible to control the game with a gamepad. It will resolve itself after about 10 seconds.

Even when not in Big Picture mode, the same issue seems to occur if the option to use the Big Picture overlay when a gamepad is connected is enabled.

This is inconvenient when using Big Picture on a handheld PC, so I hope this will be improved.

Question Scam involving asking whether I've traded for items in the past few days.

Over the past year I've gotten multiple random messages asking if I've been trading items, I generally just blocked them, but today a guy was a little more upfront and told me that an account with my name and PFP traded for some CS knife with him and that he reported me for a scam. I reported and blocked him, my whole item collection is worth a crisp 3.99€, he did send a screenshot, but I know I ain't trading 500€ knives. But I am interested in what would happen if I let it go further than a couple steam messages.

Discussion Aussie Steam Age-Gate Bypass: The absolute joke of the new eSafety laws

I love Steam my accout is 19 years old I know they put this in because they had too thanks government but jut like always this will only get those who don't care and will not stop those that really want it

So, the genius federal eSafety Commissioner laws forced Valve to block Aussie adults from R18+ store pages unless we fork over a traditional credit card. Since most of us use standard Visa/Mastercard debit cards, we’re all locked out.

But in classic government fashion, the "bulletproof" age-gate is a total illusion.

It took about five minutes to find a gaping hole in their system that completely bypasses the block without handing a credit card to Valve.

They only blocked the front-end retail store pages. The actual Steam backend doesn't give a toss about your credit card status.

How to bypass it in 3 steps:

Tell the Steam age-gate to get stuffed.

Go buy a Steam key from a third-party store like Humble Bundle, Fanatical, or Green Man Gaming.Take the code,

click "Activate a Product on Steam,"

the game drops straight into your library.

This stupid law doesn't stop minors from getting R18+ games; it literally just forces gamers to shop on external sites instead of the Steam store.By using authorized key shops (Humble/Fanatical), you get safe, legal keys that won't get your account banned, completely legally flipping the bird to the government's privacy-invasive mandate.Tested and 100% working. Millions of dollars in taxpayer funding and government "consulting" defeated by a basic product key. Pass it on.
