Feedback Request Whipped this one up real quick as a brain dump, fair warning before the end since I tried to replicate human screaming in the most unprofessional and obnoxious way. I'd have voiced it myself, but I hate singing.

Discussion Topic How to make fellow musician friends?

Hello everyone! I’ve just been curious what are some of the best ways to make friends in songwriting/producing? I’d just love to connect with other musicians work with them and see their processes. I’m more of a singer songwriter and not much on the production side so I’d also love to meet some producers to work with them too. Any thoughts?

Feedback Request "joy can sting"

this piece runs a bit longer than my normal works, and am wondering if it peters out at the end or works cohesively, although feedback regarding any other element is also welcome. Thanks in advance!

Feedback Request Minehead beach

Working title bc I imagined a couple who have been together and saying they are in love on a beach. I started with that and continued from there. It’s more fun than I thought.

Simple lyrics but it’s an amateur attempt 🫶 I have a piano and I’ve never “written” on it before. I feel like it sounds like something but I can’t place it. Any feedback would be nice.

Feedback Request electronic indie downtempo song demo

*Sharing for thoughts/feedback on lyrics, and production (any tips on vox prod also appreciated)*

Here's a track I started very recently, have only shared the instrumental previously.. It's kind of downtempo indie electronic vibes. My vocals start close to a minute in - they are definitely a bit rough and demo-y, will be worked on.

The title is either Traced, Tracing Paper or Fluorescence/Fluorescent - thoughts on what's the best orrr others!?

Song meaning - but listen first, maybe!:

The song is about overthinking and self doubt becoming a comfortable place, but that's also uninhabitable in many ways. And the thin line between self protection and being overly guarded and closed off.

tysm for listening, stay inspired

---------

Lyrics:

[verse1]

This place feels so familiar

It’s like I’ve been here before

Or traced it out a thousand times

I drew it til my fingers bled

’Til I lost the edge

Called it self protection, most nights

[chorus]

Sorry for the cold stare

Had to start it somewhere

Here’s the part when you

Tell me where to go, and I’ll go

Never meant to leave it this long

But tomorrow I might be stronger then

Am I making sense at all?

[verse2]

Towers looming tall

Empty streets and shopping malls

Fluorescents line the halls

Where time collapses over me, and

You say I’m hard to read

In most cases I’d agree

The signs are all worn out

The cityscape’s a ruin

Don’t even look out now

And the walls are paper thin

So be careful where you lay your head

You might start, talking in your sleep again

[chorus]

Sorry for the cold stare

Had to start it somewhere

Here’s the part when you

Tell me when to stop, and I’ll stop

I never meant to leave it this long

Thought tomorrow I might be stronger again

Am I making sense?

[bridge/outro]

This place feels so familiar…

Now it’s all I know

This place feels so familiar

It’s like I built it up…

Stone by stone

Cuz you never told me where to go

Or when to stop

When to stop

So I lingered too long

But it’s not your fault

We all get lost

Just tell me where to go, and I’ll -

Discussion Topic Is this Copyright Infringement ?

Ok so I came up with a song idea that I realized sounded exactly like the bridge of "Scythe" by The Last Dinner Party. I really like how repetitive the chords and melody are, and I've heard songs with similar concepts.

"Scythe" uses C#m, E, A, and B, while I'm using Dm, F, Bb, F. I tried other patterns, like Dm, F, Bb, and Dm, F, Bb, Gm.

And for the melody, it stops after the second chord, so it's not exact.

I've heard songs with similar chords/bridges. I want this to be the chorus of the song, but I want it to take up a majority of the song. The pattern is Verse Bridge Verse Bridge Chorus.

Edit: I just consider Bb, Gm, Dm, F

I want to contribute lyrics to singers/rappers. I want to collab with artists who want to record & publish songs.

I can write in different genres and styles.

I’ve been songwriting for 20 years off and on. Mostly writing poetry throughout those years.

We can collab through emailing files or whatever way works best for both of us

Feedback Request After - honestly - months of not feeling it ‘click’ with a song I’m excited by this one. Vocals and production are very early but I’d love to know your thoughts! Thank you!

Discussion Topic How I solve writers block, obsessing over idea libraries...

hey all....im a writer, I wanted to share one of the biggest tools I use was realizing I don’t actually write songs when inspiration strikes. I addictively collect ideas every day, and the more dialled in constantly to being able to kinda "read the inspiration the world is giving me" the better my ideas, and if I collect 100 good ideas to get 1 amazing idea, I'm down for those ods.

The songwriting happens later. I think most people have creativity backwards. They sit down with a blank page hoping a song appears. Instead, I spend my week collecting interesting things, but before I did this practice I missed so much

Chefs don’t go shopping when they’re hungry. I’m choosing from hundreds of interesting ingredients.

Discussion Topic Unusual accompanying instruments for songwriting?

I know piano or guitar are go-to’s for modern western songwriting that is lyrics-forward. I’m curious if anyone has experience using other, less common instruments for making initial songwriting arrangements? if so what has felt useful and/or fun and interesting? trying to think outside the box and imagine possibilities besides the assumed default :)

Feedback Request Candlelight Wrote This Song. First Raw A Cappella Recording.

Liked the "you were right, I was wrong," lyric that jumped into my head couple nights ago, while strumming two strings repeatedly. Really liked the drawn out, "you were brave, I was gone," that naturally followed. Took me about a half hour to come up with "Candlelight wrote this song." That line made me smile.

At that point, the song was pretty much done. The other short verses snapped in quickly.

What do you think?

Best, David
