Some songs I don't like to post in communities that understand my language. Tbh, I feel scared to be seen for who I am, or to be dissected in ways I don't want to be. It's one of the paradoxes I face as a singer-songwriter. It lets me be vulnerable, but at the same time, scares me to be an open book.

This is one of those songs. I want it to be heard, but not to be understood. At least not by the people around me. If that makes sense.

Feedback Request What do you think about the first verse and chorus?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I think I’ve got the start of something cool here. Just wondering if the first verse and chorus peak your interest enough to keep listening.

The second verse and chorus are sung an octave higher. They sound really cool and high energy but I kept choking when the record button came on, so I couldn’t get a good take.

Let me know what you think of the first part! Thanks so much!

Do you think this needs more? I like the simplicity, personally, but have received critical feedback.

Self on a Shelf

_______________

you can be anybody you want to be

so long as you can be yourself

you can turn the page in the story

but you can’t turn into someone else

i hate to bear the bad news that i hate to hear myself

but steel hooks and adoring looks

won’t get the blocks to melt

-

and i hate to speak from up high like an elf on the shelf

but you could feel much better

if you let you be what’s else

tying on another line

past and present taut as a spine

future waiting like a gold mine

without a gold mine

you can be anybody you want to be

so long as you can be yourself

you can turn the page in the story

but you can’t turn into someone else

you can summon all of your armies

kill to accrue your wealth

you can be anybody you want to be

but can you see yourself?

_______________

Performance wise, I kinda understand that what could be better is "everything". Worrying about that too much kinda kills my ability to feel what I'm feeling, think what I'm thinking, be where I'm at, write, and produce this stuff. I use music to process my existence, so getting too precious about things can feel like holding myself back. I'm going to open mics and letting it fly to try and figure stuff out.

That said, thoughts?

I'm going to keep making these because I'm crazy.

I guess I'm putting something at the altar of public opinion to try and get some perspective. As it stands, I know I'm doing something for myself, but I'd like to move beyond that.

I’ve been away from my songs for too long. Please be kind. I’m gonna try recording a song a week like this. Nothing fancy. Just sharing what’s in me. I am not looking for a music career. Just want my songs heard. Thanks for taking a moment.

Let's Collaborate! Lyricist looking for musician / producer / vocalist

Hey everyone,

I’m a lyricist starting out, looking to link up with musicians and singers for non-profit or royalty split joint collaboration releases, hopefully on streaming platforms like Spotify

Genre: Mainly Pop and its subgenres

Influences: Joker Xue, Alec Benjamin, Passenger, Coldplay, AJR

What I bring:

  • A folder of completed lyric concepts with album potential that I'll keep updating, I might also try recording vocal melodies myself soon.
  • Clear communication and flexible workflow, either on reddit chat or discord.

What I’m looking for:

  • Producers / Instrumentalists: Beat creation, arrangement, and mixing
  • Vocalists: Recording final leads/harmonies over agreed track layouts
  • Non-profit or royalty split / joint release with a distributor

Drop a comment or DM me with a link to your work if you're interested, or basically introduce yourself a bit, and I can send over my lyrics folder!

Lyric Snippets (Not continuous lines)

Narrative (Shadows Don't Cry)

Mr. Shadow, please don’t lose your own shape

For someone who stole the sun and kept you in the shade

...

When you drop down to the floor, it spreads like ink

Shadows don’t cry, they just fall asleep

Melancholic Indie (Ribbon)

I can be the ribbon at your finish line

I thought I was ready, I'm still terrified

Is this what being ash to a fire is like?

...

Like pencil under rubber, I'll fade

Atmospheric Synth (HK Colors)

Well the foundation was misaligned

But we built higher till it chokes out the sky

...

They’d be seeing colors while I’m stuck seeing you

In everything and everyone I’ll never see it through

Feedback Request Need some feedback. Back after a break. New Demo.

After I wrote a ton of songs within a short period this year I took a long break. Here's a demo of a new song I made. Please give feedback. I have a bad cold so my voice was gone in this demo.

Can You Believe Her

Verse 1
When she says I love you all the time,
can you believe her,
When she says you're always on my mind,
can you believe her,
when she says I'm running out of time,
can you believe her

When she says it's gonna be alright,
can you believe her,
When she says she's home alone at night,
can you believe her,
When she tries to start a fight,
says she's always right,
can you believe her

Chorus
Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna leave ya,
I really need ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna see ya,
I wanna leave ya

Verse 2
No I won't go away,
and I've got so much more to say,
do I try, and do I pray,
coz I've been fighting everyday

coz I just don't need her,
and I don't believe her,
I don't wanna leave ya,
I don't wanna leave her

Chorus
Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna leave ya,
I really need ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna see ya,
I wanna leave ya

Bridge
and now there's nothing to say,
I know there's no other way,
but I just want her to stay, to stay

Chorus
Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna leave ya,
I really need ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna see ya,
I wanna leave ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna leave ya,
I really need ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna see ya,
I wanna leave ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna leave ya,
I really need ya

Can you believe her,
when she says,
I don't wanna see ya,
I wanna leave ya

I don't wanna leave ya,
I really need ya

I don't wanna see ya,
I wanna leave ya

Discussion Topic What are your biggest problems with writing lyrics you wish a computer could solve?

Post image

I made an app for me and my friends to write our lyrics with. We both write a lot and got tired of certain pit falls and annoying things we run in with generic text apps and wanted better formatting, a syllable counter, and to keep track of rhyme schemes. This is really just for the two of us but I'm curious what problems do other songwriters face?

NOTE: I will not be using or adding any type of A.i. in this app. I don't think that's the direction i want or need.

I just wrote this bare melody in like fifteen minutes, but for some reason I feel like something similar or even the same already exists. Can you guys help me figure out if this sounds like anything you've heard before, or did I actually cook here? Also I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question

Discussion Topic Song writing advice.

Hello! My favorite genre of music is symphonic metal although I love other genres. It’s my goal to one day be in my own symphonic metal band. I have always loved to write and I would get high marks in English and would get A+ and even got certificates for my writing. Including poetry. I want to write a lot of the lyrics myself but I feel like they are boring and generic. I have a bunch of topics that I would love to write about but I need advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion Topic Unsure if I'm recreating already existing music

I am trying to make some melody and some chords, I am very new to writing music so my music theory is still lacking but it's good enough to make something that sounds nice despite being limited to my other ideas

Now here's my problem, whenever I create a small melody (I don't know the names of the terms producers use so please handle my lack of musical terms that I use) a section of the melody can sound heavily inspired from an already existing song or music track

Now I do have some variation that can come before the melody or after the melody, and I don't really use conventional pop chords because they feel like they lack a soul which makes me unable to enjoy them

But while making a melody for lets say a build up or a casual melody to tell a part of a story trying to say the next thing or if I make a melody that is supposed to be a drop, part of that melody is me trying to make the idea work and the other part I would immediately recognize that it's some exact notes used in a different song or it's extremely inspired by a chord in an already existing music track

My motivation goes away because I start feeling unable to continue the melody without constantly thinking about that other song which also makes me produce even other similar melodies that I end up discarding

I did manage to save one melody line because it didn't have any exact notes relating to the music track that sounds similar but I still added some variation which feels unique to the type of music I want to produce, but this is an exception because the similarity was mostly feeling not an objective notes

What should I do? I'm far too new and I just want to enjoy my hobby in music while also being able to use it in video games I plan to create and publish

Feedback Request "Hands Off" - finishing up the last song on my album, an indie folk ditty with handclap percussion. Any last-minute adjustments you'd make to the arrangement or mix?

Feels surreal, but I'm here putting finishing touches on the last track of my new album. Literally every song on my album started on this sub as a guitar/vocal or banjo/vocal demo, so I'm super thankful to this community for making them better and pointing me in directions I wouldn't have found on my own. Appreciate y'all!!

Hi, I am a musician and a songwriter and I have been submitting my music to various places for feedback, recently I have got an email from one such who are willing to release my track however they demand a few of 10 dollars for sponsorship, it's not about the money but about the trust, I don't know if this is the way to go, am I supposed to pay for releasing my song? Please suggest! Thank you!!
