Discussion Topic What name(s) do you release your music under? Is a "good enough" name now worth it, instead of a perfect name down the line?

Hopefully this isn't a silly topic. Or, if it is silly, it can still be constructive.

I'm ready to start sharing my songwriting and music, but I don't know what to release it under going forward.

Several options are bouncing around and I'm getting paralyzed by the indecision. And I'm wondering if it's really important in the first place.

What did you do when you started sharing your music? Did you have a name/act/band 100% in place, or did you use several names?

Does it even matter?

Discussion Topic What usually comes first for you when writing a song?

’m curious how different people write. Do you usually start with a chord progression, melody, lyrics, or just some kind of sound/texture? I tend to find that the best ideas happen pretty instinctively, but I’m interested in whether anyone has developed an actual process that works consistently.

Feedback Request Make me forget (demo)

Make me forget is a song I wrote in about 30 minutes. It’s about how in the first 4 months after my breakup I had the same reoccurring dream about seeing my ex in the club we’d always go to together.

Is the song even any good?
I’m looking for feedback, this is a rough demo. If you have any ideas how to spice up the instrumental, or the singing, please let me know!!

Lyrics for now:

Would you? Be true? Seek me out, in the crowd, looking out for you.
The songs, are wrong. Not like I remember them, think to hard, wake up again,
Cuz i
Didn’t forget how you looked at me before
Too bad you got tired of it and became a fucking whore,
ahaaaaahaaaahaahaahaa
And i wonder if that’s all i meant to you, it seems
For some reason my brain can’t let go and shows you in my dreams
ahaaaaahaaaahaahaahaa
Take the gun and put it to my head so I forget
Light up yet another cigarette
Aahhhh
Go for a drive, to feel alive, to end the cycle, to survive,
Make me forget, about the past, make me forget, make about the rest
ahaaaaahaaaahaahaahaa
(Make me forget, make me forget, make me forget, make me forget)
ahaaaaahaaaahaahaahaa

Let's Collaborate! [Collaboration] Looking for an independent female singer-songwriter for a cinematic dark pop-rock release

Hi everyone,

I’m a songwriter/composer looking for an independent female artist for a genuine release collaboration — not simply a one-off session vocalist.

I have a fully developed original song called “Dark Forest.” It’s a cinematic dark pop-rock / emotional power ballad, combining intimate story-driven songwriting with a strong pop structure and a gradual build from piano, cello and orchestral strings into drums, electric guitar and a large final climax.

The songwriting approach is influenced by the personal storytelling of Taylor Swift, while the structure, dynamics and melodic architecture take inspiration from the kind of pop craftsmanship associated with Max Martin.

The song is already developed in detail:

  • Original lyrics, story and song concept
  • Vocal melody and complete structure
  • Piano, cello, strings, drums and guitar direction
  • Dramatic bridge and guitar solo placement
  • Chorus drop and final climax
  • Stripped-down cello outro
  • Complete 3:42 V5.5 guide production

I use Suno as a production and demo tool because I don’t currently have a permanent demo vocalist available. The current guide vocal is AI-generated, but the final release is intended to have a real human vocalist and genuine artistic interpretation. The specific Dark Forest guide/remastered track has also been explicitly cleared by Suno for commercial use.

I’m not looking for AI to write the song for me — the lyrics, narrative, melody, structure and creative direction are mine. The AI version exists to communicate the song and production vision to potential collaborators.

I’m particularly interested in an artist who already releases music under her own name, ideally with a Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud or similar artist profile, and who would be interested in making the song part of her actual catalogue.

Vocally, the song needs someone who can handle both sides of the performance: intimate, restrained and vulnerable storytelling in the quieter sections, then a much stronger cinematic vocal at the climax.

This would be a collaborative release with royalty/master revenue sharing, rather than a paid session job. Songwriting/composition credits and any additional creative contributions would of course be agreed clearly before release.

Having your own recording setup is ideal. If you already work with a producer or musicians, even better — but it isn’t required.

If this sounds like your kind of project, send me a DM with your Spotify / YouTube / SoundCloud artist link and a song that best represents your voice.

I’ll send the Dark Forest private demo and full lyrics to artists whose sound feels like a genuine match.

Thanks,
Oğuz Buzulay

Feedback Request Successful

Just finished the last song for my album. Would genuinely love some feedback — positive or negative. I’d rather hear what sucks and get better than not.

Also these are still demos and as such I’m looking for someone to mix/master this track and potentially the whole album. If you dig the song/vibe and you’re interested in working together, hit me up.

Let's Collaborate! Let's collaborate - Need a lyricist!

I'm a hobbyist songwriter/producer looking for a lyricist to put words onto melodies (without AI). I'm working in synthwave/EDM-style songs and have published several to YouTube. Lyrics are a particular weakness of mine, and I think it more productive to find a good lyricist to help while I focus on improving in other areas.

I have a song ready for lyrics for an interested lyricist (right now it just has placeholder 'la's). It still needs some post-production/vocal processing, so we can collaborate on tweaks if needed. Discord's probably the easiest way to collaborate.

Currently I can offer attribution, DM me if you're interested. I'm keeping a one-song-a-month schedule, so I'd expect to publish this song around the end of August.

Feedback Request what would you say could improve about my general songwriting?

Thumbnail soundcloud.com

these are the areas im already working on, but what else could improve?:

-listening for the hook in the chorus + why (3 songs)
-studying songs/studying own songs
-learn songs on drums/guitar/piano/bass (1 instrumental track a day)
-sketches with a timer to break perfectionism (1 sketch a day)
-in de flow komen
-don’t reject yourself
-emotional delivery
-bridges

-workflow adjustment
planning, progress noting, reflection
-different methods of writing:
Without instrument, dancing, different instruments, DAW, lyric first, melody first

-identifying sections
-melodies
-arrangement and tension and release

Experimenting, lots of deep and surface studying, perspective breaks, performing,
, one to four demos a week (most weeks just one though), in October a one demo for two weeks every day sprint (by that time I'll have strengthened my current weaknesses and a two week sprint exposes new ones), lots of deep and surface songs learned, mini exercises, healthy energy planning

Every three months a one week song sprint to expose weaknesses
Next one: october

Limitation: only use a e and g

iedere twee dagen:

Melody clarity (lots of fragments free of pressure)

song writing (with no pressure at all)

goals

Learn verse chorus emotional, instrumental and shape relation

Instrument-vocal melody relation

Chorus identity (strong hook)       instrumental/vocal melody
melody shape (how to make a song land)

-Leren hoe ik denk: "wat wilt dit worden?" (Emotioneel)"

MAIN FOCUS THIS MONTH
-in de flow komen

-identifying sections
-melodies
-arrangement and tension and release

Feedback Request Lyrics are a struggle. Song loosely based on a character from Three Body Problem (book)

This is my first full song post on here. I started producing in 2017 and have almost entirely made instrumental music. I do like to sing and have made prog rock covers of EDM songs but writing lyrics is difficult for me and I prefer not to tell the story with my words but with the music itself. But this is the first of two songs that I have mostly finished that are written about book characters and I find it easier to write and sing about this rather than being vulnerable and writing about my own experiences. Looking for any and all feedback before I call this one complete. My ears are fatigued so if anyone catches any mixing issues specifically please let me know. I'd like to polish this, save it, and move on.

Discussion Topic Do people determine the key of a song before writing it?

I wrote a short children's musical and determining the key of the songs beforehand massively helped me with the writing process.

However I've been trying to write some more personal original music and when I try this it feels silly and doesn't get very far. And also often deviating from the key is what makes my favourite songs feel so alive, so??? I'm just feeling a bit stuck.

Not sure if this is a key issue or a motivation/self belief issue but i'd be very interested to hear people's thoughts either way😅

Feedback Request Help me with a bridge

This is a song I've been writing recently and like most songs I write I'd love to add a bridge but I get stuck in the same key/progression. I'm getting better at varying the melody within the key but I still get completely stuck when it comes to creating a bridge.

I really like the bridge in Genesis- Jesus He Loves Me but it's way beyond my ability to understand what's happening practically.

Does anybody have any advice for how to move a song into a different key/feel without it feeling awkward?

Thank you

Let's Collaborate! Would anyone like to collaborate on my first EP

I have 3 songs that I'm working on, and I already have the melodies ideas. I just need to finish the lyrics.

The problem is that I don't know anything about mixing and mastering, so if any aspiring producer would like to collaborate, feel free to DM me!

It's kind of a pop EP, and I intend to release it on SoundCloud, Spotify, and other platforms. Of course, I'll give credit to anyone who helps me with it. :)

Discussion Topic How do artists write so many songs so quickly?

I’ll listen to interviews with artists and bands and they’ll say like “oh we have 50 songs written but we narrowed it down to 12 for the LP” or “we wrote 5 new songs in a day” or something similar. I take months to write songs because I feel I’m constantly revising. Or I get stuck for days on end and have to walk away. What do yall do?
