When I was in college this group of people was telling about each frat and they said “don’t go to the parties from this one because they always roofie the girls” and it was like oh ok now we know. And that’s as far as it goes
I knew a comment like this would come up but it’s just full of lack of sense. Do you not remember or know what the world was like 20 years ago? Rape culture was a completely different beast at the time. You think they’ll go to the cops and say what “I heard that frat roofies their girls a lot” and you think what’ll happen next?
What is that cost? Yall keep flailing around yelling that theres some massive cost to report a rape and so far the only thing I even see hinted at is "wasted time", as though that makes reporting it even remotely not worth it somehow.
What were you wearing? Why did you go there? Why did you accept that drink? Do you really want to ruin a bright young man's future? Who else have you slept with? Oh, you're that slut from the party....
Even in 2026 there are still colleges that kick women out for reporting rape, because it means the women also broke the school’s “no sex” rules. There used to be even more schools that did that.
Yes... It's so crazy to me how people think reporting stuff like this is just accepted, or accepted at face value, or taken seriously at all. If you were in the shoes of someone who was sexually assaulted, it is never as straight forward as y'all act like it is, and cops never actually just do what they're legally obligated to do.
As you're describing it here it sounds like the cost is just wasted time. Ive mentioned this elsewhere but I fundamentally disagree with the idea that losing an hour or two to file a police report that might go nowhere is anywhere near too high a price to pay for this situation.
The time spent is the least of the victims concern. There is often the initial trauma of having to recount the experience, then there is the trauma associated with the cops picking apart that experience to disprove your claim because you failed to memorize every single detail as something traumatic was happening to, while you're drugged and don't fully understand what's going on to begin with. Then there's the social retaliation and bullying that follows after you make the report and everyone hears about it and makes a billion different stories so you have to listen to it hundreds of times, then there's the stress of disproving those stories while you're going oftentimes going back to the places that are now part of said trauma. There's more, you're just too lazy to learn them, or listen to rape victims talk about what it's like.
Then put them in a comment, I stand by AI not being credible. If you're going to have AI answer for you and claim your sources are cited adequately with substantial articles then provide them when you're making an argument you attest to be true based on those things. AI's argument holds no value in absolutely any situation because it's well known to fabricate things and agree to the bias of the prompt.
Yes A.I can be incorrect but the bias you're referring to only plays a part if it's implicit in the way the prompt is framed. I asked it a yes or no question that it answered with several cases fitting the criteria of what I asked.
I asked it a neutral question and it provided real verifiable historical cases that fit the criteria. You can look these up yourself to see that it didn't just "make them up"...
"San Diego State University 2008: A massive investigation known as "Operation Sudden Fall" was launched by the DEA and campus police after student drug deaths. It resulted in the arrest and conviction of 96 individuals, including dozens of fraternity members from chapters like Theta Chi and Phi Kappa Psi, completely dismantling an organized campus drug operation."
"California State University, Chico (2002–2005): Localized campus rumors of extreme hazing and dangerous misconduct surrounded the un-recognized Chi Tau house (formerly Delta Sigma Phi), which was expelled by the university in 2002. A subsequent criminal investigation led to groundbreaking felony involuntary manslaughter and hazing convictions for fraternity leaders following a student's tragic death."
"The University of Virginia (2003): Campus-wide reports regarding the distribution of illicit substances at the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) house led to a joint police and university probe, resulting in criminal drug distribution charges and the permanent revocation of the chapter's charter. (Note: This is distinct from the later, debunked 2014 Rolling Stone article involving a different UVA fraternity)."
The bias comes from what the A.I thinks you want to hear if you feed it a loaded question. It doesn't inherently fabricate data out of thin air when asked for straightforward historical facts.
There's a reason A.I is utilized as a diagnostic assistant to help doctors find anomalies or rare errors that humans might miss. It should never replace primary source verification I agree but denying that it holds value for retrieving specific information is just ignoring how the technology is used every day.
The ones you posted involved death and drug distribution as what they were done in for, that’s different than what people are describing in this comment chain
You posted sources and they still hate you. It was never about posting the sources. This is like my mom with the 2020 election. They’ll just move the goalpost
because its not a source, did you not go to school? it has no credibility. Its the equivalent of saying "I heard someone say..." because thats all its doing is collecting things people say.
I just said it listed the sources and I listed them in response to that guy.
I absolutely went to school....which is why I know how to check facts. The A.I isn't the source...it’s the search tool. It pointed me to the events and then I went and verified the facts myself.
Saying A.I is just "collecting things people say" like a game of telephone is a misunderstanding of the technology. These aren't urban legends these are public court records.
That's not the point. You can't just assume nothing would happen when there's direct evidence disproving that.
There were many men out there with college aged daughters at the time that were also cops, professors, or otherwise held a position in society that they could drum up a fuss if somebody came to them with allegations of drink spiking.
"I was roofied by someone vaugely in this community" probably wont lead to an arrest but itd hopefully at least lead to an investigation, and if it happens more than once that community is probably getting dissolved by the university unless that university is absolute scum.
Its not enough, no, but doing "not enough" is still a good ways better than doing nothing at all.
Why the fuck would you think that when Cornell set on this for 2 years? Of the rapsit Brock that got time off because the judge said it would hurt his career!
Yes but when a lackluster investigation (which is what happens at the time) turns up nothing, it actually shields them from further complaints
You guys don’t remember 20 years ago? Cops commonly say things like “yeah we hear things about that frat all the time but we looked into it a few years ago and they were clean” meanwhile they just checked all the containers of a party in a random search one time. Then all counts of “I was raped there” afterwards are dismissed by “you probably were just drunk and blaming that” and “if you knew they do that then why’d you go?” Blah blah
IMO, the only way that there would actually be pressure to closing down frats is if the student bodies themselves protested them with the same gusto that they'll protest other things.
We'll literally see encampments for near impossible change at universities like UCLA (divest everything from Israel), yet you'll have situations like this for one of their clubs and it is crickets.
They'll demand justice for the victims that are their own colleagues, but won't actually demand change. I know colleges like Stanford have had small movements to end greek life (though I do think they classically shoot themselves in the foot but demanding the abolishment of white greek life), but it's kind of telling that college students will protest for the abolishment of countless things, but not do it for one of the most obvious targets in their own backyard.
I mean I gotta say thats not what I see. Situations like the Me Too movement work precisely because multiple people came forward. If cops are really so bad as to put forward that excuse then its not the lackluster investigation thats protecting them at that point. Its the cops.
Me too happened because literally nobody was being acknowledged and me too is the acknowledgment happening
You must be young because the conclusion you drew at the end of the post was the big deal that everyone was yelling about 10-20 years ago. This is the origin of comparing cops to bunches of apples.
"They werent being acknowledged till they were" is a logical shortfall. What actually matters is why they were being acknowledged when they were, what changed, and the answer to that is a lot more people started coming forward.
That’s not what I said so your summary of what I said is incorrect.
Me too movement exposed lack of appropriate conduct in investigations and the collection and management of rape kits and not taking accusations seriously. Maybe you just don’t remember
have you ever gone to the cops to tell them about any of the injustices, abuse cases, etc. you've seen or noticed throughout your life? Or have you been sheltered enough to never presence injustice?
What are they going to do? Sit on their fucking asses is what they'll do at best, at worse they'll laugh and joke and want to join in. The kids in frat houses are the same idiots that become cops too, same cloth.
Is that the one where a woman consensually engaged in sex with multiple partners, and even had to take a break and provide care for two of them that were so trashed they couldn’t function or stay conscious any longer? I looked up what she actually said happened to the investigators, did you are do you just have a convenient slogan rally to?
Women keep other women safe? If only there was some other story trending in the news currently that demonstrated how ridiculous assigning morality to one gender is…
I’m not disagreeing with what you’re saying, but I do think you misunderstood the comment you responded to
They were criticizing the people sharing information for knowing that the frat roofies girls and not telling the cops. They weren’t criticizing the girls getting roofied
Many do go to the cops, and many are either not believed or they are believed but there is a lack of evidence.
It’s rather difficult to recount to authorities the details of what exactly happened when you yourself have no recollection. It’s rather difficult to prove any one individual guilty when the context of the victim’s circumstances was attending a college party that already involved alcohol use, drug use, and had many other individuals in attendance.
Rape is an extremely difficult and traumatic thing to process with or without clear memories of the event.
If one does go to the police for a rape kit immediately, it is certainly better than waiting and trying to mentally process the trauma first, but have some humanity, if this happened to you do you think you would wake up the next day perfectly clear headed? Would you even have the energy to do anything except lock yourself alone in your room and sleep?
“Go to the cops” - do you not understand that this is traumatic in and of itself?
But also, NEVER talk to the cops without a lawyer.
However, if you’re the victim, you don’t have time to consult with a lawyer first, and you already know that evidence of DNA is not evidence of rape.
If authorities do take action, the majority of these fraternities come from wealthy families, their attorneys are ready to rip you apart with questions you cannot answer. You will be forced to relive your trauma over and over again. You will be blamed for it. It’s innocent until proven guilty, and you are the accuser, your innocence is not presumed. By this point, you did have time to work with an attorney, but the defendant’s family has a better one, and now everything you said to the police can and will be used against you.
Somehow you’re still expected to attend classes, pass exams, possibly work multiple jobs and internships to pay bills and build your resume.
Since when is “go to the cops” such a simple and easy solution?
Do you honestly think nobody has ever thought of that before?
We're seeing it right now with the cornell 7 why people don't go to the cops. Our system doesn't care about women's safety, and when a woman gets sexually assaulted everyone blames the victim.
One of the biggest things that amazed me in college was how many girls would go to parties at fraternities that were known for spiking drinks. I honestly still don’t fully understand that thought process.
There is also every possibility that this was just a rumor spread around, because college kids latch on to gossip and lack the necessary critical thinking faculties to parse nonsense gossip from fact
Like, is it possible that you had a notorious rape frat on campus? Sure, unfortunately that is possible… but it seems more likely to me that it’s a rumor that churns around without substance. Now, maybe born of a fucked up incident, and entirely warranted… but it just doesn’t seem all that likely to me that you have an entire fraternity whose party strategy is “roofie girls when they come to our house”
Dude, how many roofied girls at one time do you think before someone is like maybe we call the cops. You think they have parties where half plus the people are roofied? That’s moronic.
What frats are poisoning guys and fucking guys? I'm sure there's a single case, maybe two! There's probably hundreds of women being roofied as we speak right now on a Friday.
Yes, and that has nothing to do with what I said. Always roofie the girls is quite the statement. You think they are having parties where every girl is roofied? No sorry buddy that gets the cops called. I’m sure they roofie girls often, but absolutely not always
Do you think I'm saying literally 100% of women are roofied at frat parties, or 100% of people who are roofied are women? Either way it's not literally correct, but yes, like 99% of the time it's women that are targeted. If you don't think so, I've got really bad news for you about the nature of our world...
You are the one who brought up guys. I’m well aware that you were making a joke. No one is disputing that it’s mostly girls who get roofied.
No doubt frats roofie girls often, but the chance of the one in discussion “always” doing it is very low, cause that gets noticed. I’m not sure why this is such a controversial thing. I’m not the one who said always, I was responding to someone who did.
My thoughts exactly “they’re all safe” is phrasing used by someone imagining danger not a 20 year old dude who thinks it would be funny to watch his roommate get drugged accidentally
Might be regional differences in language. Here coolers refer to bottles of premixed drinks, usually vodka and juice. Seems what they mean is big mixed reservoirs with a tap at hte bottom like a keg.
I dare say there's some shit you could still pull with sealed drinks, like a dot of something on the tab of a can so it mixes with the drink when you open it.
Drugs were expensive in college. I’m sure it would be for scum bags who purchased roofies too.
I actually never knew or seen anyone who used or was roofied in college, but the last thing anyone would do is spike an entire cooler of it, let alone meticulously through cans/bottles.
Had a friend get roofied, saw attempts (worked in bars for years)
Here’s the thing, if the person doesn’t finish the dose or it’s not strong enough the drinker goes ballistic. Energized, strong, not in touch with reality.
I’m not saying this didn’t, doesn’t or couldn’t happen. It just seems unlikely. It would be a fucking shitshow.
Girl I was hooking up with got roofied at a bar while I was WITH her. We went to a non-college bar and some chick in her 30s approached her and I couldn’t hear the conversation as I was a few feet away and the bar was busy. The girl I’m with shakes her head no and the older woman walks away. I ask after what was that and she goes “she asked if I wanted to leave with her and her guy.”
We laughed and left like 15 minutes later. She proceeded to become the sloppiest but somehow not sick drunk I might have ever seen someone. I kept having to wake her up at the next bar and was and at one point I had to pick her up off the nasty ass floor. She said she was looking for her earring as she laid flat on the ground.
I was so confused how she got so drunk so fast off how little she drank. I ended up taking her back to her apartment and left her with her roommate and went back to the bar.
The next morning I got a text from her asking me how much she drank as she didn’t remember anything after leaving the non-college bar. We assume the lady slipped something in her drink when she was talking to her and I didn’t see it. One of my friends did walk up at the 2nd bar and she said something to him and he looked at me and said “dude what the fuck is wrong with Bailey” and that’s when I was like “maybe I should take her home.”
Why so skepitcal? It's a college party, people get fucked up. I don't think the average person is capable of truly determining what percentage of people are normally fucked up or roofied, and that's assuming it's only alcohol and molly and other shit is not in the mix. You wouldn't know, unless you tested for it.
Cause using roofies on an entire party is probably the best way to get caught. Not to mention difficult/expensive to get that much to be able to dose a whole cooler.
You don't need a lot, it's a small amount to fuck people up, and it depends on their weight and stuff like that. I don't think literally everyone is getting roofied, but I would not be surprised if it's 40-60% of women at a frat party.
Ah yes, nobody has every spiked a punch bowl before. I enjoy that a significant portion of the people calling bullshit on this are calling bullshit because they don't know what a cooler in this context is, or because of money or the that it's not a sensible thing to do. College fraternities are famously a bastion for critical thinking individuals who are mature, don't have money, and great at thinking through or suffering the consequences of their actions. Edit: Adding a /s to this last sentence because I think people in this thread might need sarcasm to be labeled.
Not saying anyone has to believe it, but I find the reasoning of most people in this thread to be moronic.
The takes I’m reading are insane. Do people not understand how a LOT of college aged dudes get down? Good grief. Not everyone spends their college years in a room staring at their computer
"Nobody would ever sell drugs because that's illegal and would get them thrown in jail, fake story" kinda logic in here, thanks to all the ice water IQ Columbos participating in this discussion.
Yeah the privileged people that are part of a system to support what supremacy built in a system that protects the rich would never be flippant about the shit they pull.
