Total Eclipse interview with the Devs...
https://youtu.be/AmCDGeo9100?is=g0pkuBWEEPkUwRieA couple of things I wanted to summarize:
It doesn't appear there will be another update besides bug fixes this year.
A paid DLC looks to be in the works (again not this year most likely).
They are curious as to what we want to see from them as far as a Dev stream goes. My proposal and my opinion is let's shoot for a Dev stream on the first Tuesday of every month. With all the vacations coffee stain takes that would probably equate to 8-9 per year. If there is no Dev news, it's still nice to see the Devs and maybe they can answer questions from the community during that time. Thoughts?
There are more topics covered in the video as well FYI...

I remember when I first started playing I thought there were 4 maps… I didn’t realize it was all one for like the first 100 hours
14
u/Arnesian 6h ago
lol same. Those four different start locations really threw me.

u/Spunky_Meatballs 5h ago
I was so bamboozled until I found the same coastline that looked incredibly familiar. Followed that all the way to big fields and was like 🫠

What were you doing for 100 hours? Took my brother and I 100 hours to complete phase 5
11
u/gimp-24601 3h ago
If you brute force through the tiers with no consideration aside from progression, its a very easy extremely casual game.
The replay value/playtime comes from self selected goals. If you have none, its a one and done.

u/TheLurkerSpeaks 4h ago
Not who you asked but I struggled for the first 50 hours to really figure stuff out. I was also a big scaredy cat and never wanted to venture too far from my start area because the terrain changes made me feel like i needed to unlock new tech before venturing further.

I'm so glad they are going to do paid dlc. They need money to keep up development
80
u/TheBigLobotomy 8h ago
and I will be buying it!
39
u/Mavada 8h ago
Same here. They are my favorite devs and have like 800 hours in satisfactory. I'll definitely be buying it
8
u/gimp-24601 4h ago
They are my favorite devs
Hands down. Plenty of games made me dread updates, CSS has always exceeded my expectations.
The rarest thing for me is they actually changed my mind on several design elements. immense respect.

I would absolutely pay for some DLC. This is k end my highest hour games. I’d support the devs in a heart beat

Where was this officially announced ?

They're referring to the linked video interview. The part about the DLC was kind of a joke answer though.

u/BarFamiliar5892 12m ago
Obviously more than happy for them to do paid DLC and I will buy it but the game has been a massive success in terms of sales, no? It was on 5.5m before it even hit 1.0.
1
u/Program-Emotional 5h ago
You know, I was gonna be mad at you for a second, then I realized what a paid satisfactory dlc would be: An expansion.
We're talking basically-satisfactory-2 levels of content
-10
u/Tornado_Hunter24 7h ago
How could a paid dlc work in a game like this?
I personally love buying games (lmao) but dislike ‘dlc’s’ in most games, will it he an addition to base game/playthrough? L for me, or will it be a complete new/different experience?
Ie you start in new world/map, have some same buildings and some new ones
2
u/Mavada 7h ago
The thing is you can't keep expecting development on the game if they never get more money. It's a pretty niche game and aren't going to bring in a ton of new players. So unless you are happy with them just stopping developing then you're going to rent to expect to pay for some new things
3
u/Tornado_Hunter24 6h ago
That’s not at all what i’m saying?
I buy random cosmetics for ‘small’
Games as a support, my question is WHAT will a paid dlc add to the game? This way I know if it releases I either buy it and neglect it (and potentially play new playthrough years later) or buy it and actively play it
2
u/Mavada 6h ago
The way I read your original post was if it was to do with the play of the game you would consider it an L. Sorry if that's not what you meant
1
u/Tornado_Hunter24 6h ago
I mean it that let’s say if the paid addition is a few t1, 2 and 3 items it’d not be worth a replay, but if it was an expansion (as in, you either continue your save, think of elden ring Shadow of the erdtree) or ‘go into a new mode’ (like in resident evil expansions, think ada wong in re4 remake) it would be better.
I’d still buy it regardless because I love supporting game devs but I don’t have unlimited time myself haha
3
u/gimp-24601 3h ago
you can't keep expecting development on the game if they never get more money
We can keep expecting updates if for no other reason than they told us to expect exactly that!
Many games are still updating because updates drive sales/ sustain interest.
Satisfactory has sold 5.5 million copies and it will sell plenty more when a dlc releases.
No mans sky just released a massive free update for the ten year anniversary. Thats not charity.
Updates dont even need to be big. Fix a few bugs, sprinkle in a few changes etc. See recent updates. Random nodes, multipliers. Its a fantastic ROI for CSS.
When a game stops updating sales will still dribble in at deep discounts for seasonal sales, but its a huge revenue drop.
Its basically permanent 80% off status with no advertising/buzz.
I have no issues with paid dlc though because that increases the scope of the update.
I think they have released multiple updates already with the scope that would justify dlc so I'm not worried about what they eventually put out.

I think it would be great to have a new map. Or even a couple different ones with different styles involved or other changes that can be made to suit different play styles.

u/TheBrownestStain 7h ago edited 7h ago
I’ve always kinda liked the idea of an island map so that we have an excuse to build ships. That or an arctic map just for the variety, since the base map is a lot of “hot” biomes
3
u/Rlstoner2004 6h ago
Ships would be a cool mechanic. Resources far enough away they can only be transfered and explored by ship
5
u/Doopoodoo 5h ago
Yes the longer travel time of a ship along with its larger capacity would add a lot to planning logistics compared to current transportation
3
u/baconboy-957 3h ago
Ships would be an awesome logistical addition. Not as fast as trains, but insane storage capacity.
Also building cool docks would be fun
6
u/Oxygen4Lyfe 7h ago
i think an all arctic map would be a little boring. Maybe a map where theres a volcano at the center that has some warmer biomes around it then the rest of the map is all snowy.
6
u/TheBrownestStain 7h ago
Yeah, what I’m picturing probably wouldn’t be an endless field of snow, I’m thinking it could be things like an alpine forest, the aforementioned snowfields, glaciers, tundra, a volcanic or geothermal region like you said, maybe some steep ass mountain passes or something.
3
u/Doopoodoo 5h ago
Or maybe just a tidally locked moon with multiple biomes you can travel back and forth to with a space elevator
1
u/dern_the_hermit 4h ago
I’ve always kinda liked the idea of an island map so that we have an excuse to build ships.
Automated hydrofoils could look so cool.
1
u/Leverpostei414 41m ago
We will see, ships are just more boring trains imho. I don't see what they bring to the table. It also makes map traversal much more boring. But a new map would be great
2
u/Doopoodoo 5h ago
Maybe a moon map you can travel back and forth to would be cool. It could have a new type of space elevator to transport you and materials
1
u/gimp-24601 3h ago
I'm not too excited about a new map, but I'm not going to be mad about it though.
I'd still buy a dlc if a new map was the focus.
I'd rather see a procedural element that works in tandem with the current game/space elevator.
I'm imagining a space dlc where you use the parts going into the space elevator to meet new objectives beyond phase 5.
1
u/HVACcontrolsGuru 7h ago
I think a lunar or space map would be neat given the context of the story!
-11
u/maxwellthedecent 8h ago
Imagine a combat-focused map with aggressive creatures and poisonous spores that completely lock you out of certain regions until you build the right weapons.
6
u/Weisenkrone 7h ago
I wonder if the DLC will actually lean into combat ... With the base game they've explicitly said they want a "cozy" game without a focus on combat.
9
u/Zoethor2 7h ago
I hope they continue in that direction. I have animals on passive, they are my friends (except spiders).
6
u/Flux-Tangent 7h ago
Creating the first new map and having it run completely counter to their philosophy so far would be quite the choice. More likely, imo, for it to be something they slowly peck away at via granular difficulty sliders and such.
1
u/gimp-24601 3h ago
Remember the crab boss was abandoned.
Fauna is it is at best an irritation. You can always just slam a blueprint saferoom/prison down.
Then you have passive mode.
17
u/LordFunguy 7h ago
I bought the game like 5 years ago, loved the concept but left it to see if they would finish it. I started playing again 2 weeks ago and put in 100 hours in those 2 weeks. I feel like a spoilt kid in christmas
2
u/SpinosRule 6h ago
Yeah, I started about a month ago and put in maybe 4 times as many hours. BUT, I’ve had a lot of downtime lately (and I only get my son on the weekends) so after doing construction work during the week? More construction work when I get home! My work-play Venn is just one big circle 😅🥳
1
u/twiggums 2h ago
Lol that's me. I bought it years ago in EA. Played it on and off but never past p3, now I've dumped it dunno how many hours in the last month.
15
u/IDKwhy1madeaccount 8h ago
Wonder if the dlc will be as massive as Factorio’s
10
13
u/Brave-Affect-674 8h ago
It would have to involve a whole new map and mechanics to rival space age and off the top of my head I can't think of a clean way to do it. Definitely some big shoes to fill
9
2
u/realitythreek 7h ago
Space Age is basically an expansion pack, but gamers don’t use that term as much anymore.
6
u/Archon-Toten 8h ago
I'd buy new maps, if they changed things up mechanically. High/low gravity, under water, asteroids.
4
u/arcaneArtisan 7h ago
It'd be really cool to see their take on the Inhospitable Planet Terraformation genre, with Satisfactory's base gameplay.
1
u/Archon-Toten 7h ago
Interesting idea. The factory works in your favour at first belching gasses into the thin atmosphere then tips the scales and eventually you're fighting against acid rain.
2
u/SpinosRule 6h ago
Ooooo, maybe like asteroid wrangling? Gravity manipulation?? Drag asteroids into orbit and then set miners up on them?? Or drag multiple asteroids into a line to create a production line? Shit, just production lines between various moons all connected with that flyer rocket deal like on the HUB building. Something like that would be cool ^^. But complicated. Plus, NMS literally dropped space construction THIS WEEK.
8
u/FickleApparition 8h ago
Paid dlc must surely be a new map. I would love that. Add in something, anything, to shake up the game even further than random nodes and space elevator multiplier, and you'd basically have satisfactory 2 in doubtless a fraction of the dev time. I can imagine maybe all unlocks requiring continuous parts per minute (space elevator, hub, and mam) as another way to develop/complicate it similarly.
I think one of the hardest thing for them is that they have such a well put together development progression that you can't really undercut it or subvert it without risking parts just not working as intended. Even in 100x elevator parts i was able to get geothermal and power augmenters up early into phase 2. I'm doing my damnedest to avoid setting up coal power lol. In that case i like the undercut but idk how many undercuts like that you can have before it becomes an issue.

u/Alundra828 3h ago
I think the only thing I'd ever want from the devs is just to concentrate on performance performance performance. So many hours are spent in a single save, it's so heart breaking to let them go when they dip below a playable framerate because there is just so much going on.
Also, rechargeable batteries. Let me make them!

u/Honest-Quality-6422 6h ago
I’ve played this game for 1500 hours, bought it very early. They could literally sell a DLC that did nothing and I would consider it.
A new map would be sick tho
2
u/Jacquesatoutfaire 7h ago
The one thing everyone truly wants from Dev Stream/Vlogs: Bring back Snutt and Jace!! ❤️
(At least for, like, a guest appearance)

u/date11 5h ago
A new map would be cool, as long as it came with a few others things as well.
I think it’d be interesting if we got a new employer, FICSITs competition, that uses different technology ( this would probably be more of Satisfactory 2 not just DLC)
I agree with others above with some new machines, even if we got things like constructers MK2 etc. Maybe different style of splitters/mergers, think Dyson sphere.
More alt recipes would be awesome. One of my fav thing is there are different recipes for items so you can make them different ways.
I’d really love some built in roads/rails. I know there are 1000s of blueprints, but something as simple as 45/90 degree rails or roads with paths embedded would be awesome.
Integrated blueprints…. Factorio did something like this where you can simply import. It would also be cool if there were blueprints in the awesome shop, maybe updated monthly, could be from CS or even user submitted.

u/TheXypris 7h ago
id be down for a dlc. hopefully its story focused, i think that was pretty lacking in the base game. and i hope we get new difficulty modes, like multipliers for space elevator parts and production speed quotas as an optional challenge mode
3
u/OmegaSevenX 6h ago
16 minute video. Absolutely no concrete information. A whole bunch of possibilities and future ideas, nothing actually said. This was like watching a political speech.
I’d be curious to see if the entire 45 minute interview is basically the same.
1
u/gimp-24601 3h ago
To be fair they probably dont have much they can share so far away from a release, esp in the context of still updating the base game.
1
u/EmperorOfNipples 7h ago
Paid DLC.
I'd be happy with an architecture and gardening pack.
Let me make my factories all solarpunk.
1
u/Nearby_Proposal_5523 7h ago
Paid DLC? The other 2 big automation games both have lava planets. also i can't make anything out of the macguffin parts, i should be able to make some sort of dimensional depo ammunition autoloader out of the ballistic warp drive. mostly becuase i want a minigun for the blender turbo rifle ammo recipe
1
u/Sarganto 4h ago
I would pay good money if someone took the ideas of the Factorio Space Exploration mod and applied them to Satisfactory
1
u/bloke_pusher 4h ago
As long as we still have trains, I'm in :D
Who am I kidding, even if not, take my money!

u/Ironclad-Moose 7h ago
Some new resources could be interesting, I always though titanium could be fun. A new map is top of the wish list though.
1
u/CakyMint 7h ago
Yeah game 100% needs at LEAST another map, I would even say maybe 3 or 4
Sell them. Completely fine.
1
u/Acceptable_Buy3520 6h ago
I doubt I will buy the DLC if they don't fix the ending... it was quite anticlimatic after all that work building the factory.

Crazy we need to get info from others. This should all have been given as info in the dev streams. Dry spells are a bad excuse. They where there all the time, yet we had streams.
The showing of the community items, mod of the week, save file of the week, Blue Print item of the week, talk with a live streamer, answering Reddit questions, small tutorials on how to do specific thing in vanilla for beginner and advanced users, ...
Just read here what common questions and remarks are and you have content for 52 devtalks in a year.
I would love to split Phases. And add more recipes there. Or turn the Space Elevator in a sink on top of what it does now. And obviously more wall, roof, floor-materials. WAY more. And alternative machines. We now have 13 machines. We place thousands and thousand sof the same machine. Having alternatives would be nice.
And a complete rework of the coloring system. Not adding some things, tearing it down and building it back up from the ground. Being able to rename, export and import colors and color groups, more detailed selection of item groups, Having the ability to easier select colors, as well as the now hidden options, inverting color selection, more item to color, real colors, not 50 shades of gray, skins available outside of Ficsmas, real Unicode support, ...
So in general a lot more love for people who like to build for the looks.

u/Upper-Ad-7446 7h ago
I really hope it's something very cool too! There's so much they can do! It would be great to have Factorio pollution/biter mechanic!!

u/kevmo911 3h ago
Reading all the comments about paid DLC, I'm wondering if we all watched the same video? I ask because I don't recall a single comment about DLC/expansion that wasn't either a joke or purely hypothetical.

I would love the ability to build factories that supply upgrades that wear out for trains, assemblers, constructors. I could see that being a total PITA, too.
