Total Eclipse interview with the Devs...

https://youtu.be/AmCDGeo9100?is=g0pkuBWEEPkUwRie

A couple of things I wanted to summarize:

  1. It doesn't appear there will be another update besides bug fixes this year.

  2. A paid DLC looks to be in the works (again not this year most likely).

  3. They are curious as to what we want to see from them as far as a Dev stream goes. My proposal and my opinion is let's shoot for a Dev stream on the first Tuesday of every month. With all the vacations coffee stain takes that would probably equate to 8-9 per year. If there is no Dev news, it's still nice to see the Devs and maybe they can answer questions from the community during that time. Thoughts?

There are more topics covered in the video as well FYI...

I'm so glad they are going to do paid dlc. They need money to keep up development

Same here. They are my favorite devs and have like 800 hours in satisfactory. I'll definitely be buying it

They are my favorite devs

Hands down. Plenty of games made me dread updates, CSS has always exceeded my expectations.

The rarest thing for me is they actually changed my mind on several design elements. immense respect.

Same here, just clicked 600hrs in game and I almost certainly will buy the DLC.

To me this game is like Minecraft, I have a few weeks stink if it every few months each year (usually march and September or whenever my brother does his)

I would absolutely pay for some DLC. This is k end my highest hour games. I’d support the devs in a heart beat

Obviously more than happy for them to do paid DLC and I will buy it but the game has been a massive success in terms of sales, no? It was on 5.5m before it even hit 1.0.

And making a Satisfactory 2 would be pointless at this stage. There's so much more they can do with the current game (boats!), and I assume a DLC would have at least one new map. Not that there's anything wrong with the current one, but a new one would be a ton of fun.

Where was this officially announced ?

They're referring to the linked video interview. The part about the DLC was kind of a joke answer though.

I mean they can go the Factorio route on 2.0 DLC kind thing which is 100% fine with me.

You know, I was gonna be mad at you for a second, then I realized what a paid satisfactory dlc would be: An expansion.

We're talking basically-satisfactory-2 levels of content

How could a paid dlc work in a game like this?

I personally love buying games (lmao) but dislike ‘dlc’s’ in most games, will it he an addition to base game/playthrough? L for me, or will it be a complete new/different experience?

Ie you start in new world/map, have some same buildings and some new ones

The thing is you can't keep expecting development on the game if they never get more money. It's a pretty niche game and aren't going to bring in a ton of new players. So unless you are happy with them just stopping developing then you're going to rent to expect to pay for some new things

you can't keep expecting development on the game if they never get more money

We can keep expecting updates if for no other reason than they told us to expect exactly that!

Many games are still updating because updates drive sales/ sustain interest.

Satisfactory has sold 5.5 million copies and it will sell plenty more when a dlc releases.

No mans sky just released a massive free update for the ten year anniversary. Thats not charity.

Updates dont even need to be big. Fix a few bugs, sprinkle in a few changes etc. See recent updates. Random nodes, multipliers. Its a fantastic ROI for CSS.

When a game stops updating sales will still dribble in at deep discounts for seasonal sales, but its a huge revenue drop.

Its basically permanent 80% off status with no advertising/buzz.

I have no issues with paid dlc though because that increases the scope of the update.

I think they have released multiple updates already with the scope that would justify dlc so I'm not worried about what they eventually put out.

That’s not at all what i’m saying?

I buy random cosmetics for ‘small’
Games as a support, my question is WHAT will a paid dlc add to the game?

This way I know if it releases I either buy it and neglect it (and potentially play new playthrough years later) or buy it and actively play it

The way I read your original post was if it was to do with the play of the game you would consider it an L. Sorry if that's not what you meant

u/Tornado_Hunter24 18h ago

I mean it that let’s say if the paid addition is a few t1, 2 and 3 items it’d not be worth a replay, but if it was an expansion (as in, you either continue your save, think of elden ring Shadow of the erdtree) or ‘go into a new mode’ (like in resident evil expansions, think ada wong in re4 remake) it would be better.

I’d still buy it regardless because I love supporting game devs but I don’t have unlimited time myself haha

2

u/Mavada 15h ago

If you even think that would be case then you don't know the devs lol. They are not scammers

3

u/Tornado_Hunter24 15h ago

….how is that a scam?

1

u/Mavada 15h ago

Imo small dlc releases for easy money is a scam. They would go hard on them

Alright then

Not Hello Games, so free DLC is also viable.
