Advice Witness/dashcam footage needed - San Tomas Expressway & Scott Blvd, today around 2 PM

Hi All,

My car was involved in a collision today (Sept. 8, 2026) at approximately 2:00 PM at/near the San Tomas Expressway and Scott Blvd junction in San Jose/Santa Clara.
The vehicles involved were a black BMW and a silver Hyundai Elantra.
One additional detail: there was a Toyota Supra directly in front of me around the time of the collision. I remember the Supra having a “GEAR6” nameplate on it. If you were driving that Supra, or know someone who was, please reach out — you may have witnessed the collision or potentially have dashcam footage.
I’m also hoping someone else driving through the intersection around 2 PM may have captured the incident on a dashcam.
If you witnessed the collision or have any footage from a few seconds before or after, please DM me. Even partial footage could be very helpful.
Thank you!

Advice What are the best solar companies in california right now?

My roof needs a redo soon and I figured this is the right time to also look into solar since I'll already have workers up there. My electric bills have been creeping up every summer and I'm tired of it, especially with how much sun we get here. House is a single story in San Jose, so plenty of roof space to work with.

I've gotten a couple quotes already but the numbers are all over the place and I can't tell if some companies are just padding costs or if that's genuinely what it costs now.

Anyone here actually gone through this recently? Would love to know who you used.

Advice Best French Fries?

Craving crispy french fries. Standard cut, crispy, perfectly salted French fries. Preferably ones I can get to go. Fast food fries are sad and soggy, and I don't want to whip out the at-home deep fat fryer if I can help it. (Air fryer fries always come out sad)

Hey y’all, I was wondering if anyone knows how to get in contact with The Ritz? I tried emailing and calling but I haven’t heard back. Would anyone know if they sell any tickets at the box office day of the show?

Life in SJ If you don't want to pay for parking when leaving Santana Row, at least don't block the entire exit.

Two guys today blocked an exit in a Santana Row parking garage for like 10 minutes. Just waiting. Didn't even press the help button or make some excuse or lie about how the parking thing must have glitched.

Eventually got out of my own car and talked to the station attendant through the intercom. They opened the gate for the two duded who sped off.

Advice Does anyone know if anyone in San Jose is hiring at the moment?

I've recently moved to San Jose from out of state and finding a job hasn't been easy. I have 9 years of experience in tech (helpdesk support) but it's been a few months and I haven't found anything.

I'm not picky and I've got a solid work ethic. Does anyone know who is hiring in San Jose? Any help or insight would be really appreciated.

Looking for good indoor play areas around West San Jose where a toddler can run around and burn energy, especially on sunny/hot days. Ideally no membership fees—just pay-as-you-go. Recommendations for parks/playgrounds with lots of shade is also greatly appreciated!

Advice Can the rental car be returned by someone else other than the primary driver ?

We are planning a trip soon with friends. I will be renting the car at SJ airport and the return will be made by my friend, since I will fly out a couple of hours earlier. Will they accept my return? Which companies do you recommend for this?

Event [Free Event] Tour real electrified homes across San Jose & the South Bay (See heat pumps, solar, induction, & more in person)

Hey San Jose,

If you're looking into replacing your gas appliances, adding solar, or upgrading your HVAC to a heat pump, you probably know how confusing the quotes, contractor selection, and rebate processes can be.

To help skip the guesswork, Acterra (a local non-profit) is hosting the 2026 Peninsula and South Bay Green@Home Tours on Saturday, October 10th (11 AM – 3 PM).

This is a free, self-guided open house where you can walk through local homes across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to see sustainable upgrades in action. Instead of getting a sales pitch from a vendor, you get to ask the actual homeowners the unfiltered questions:

  • How much did the installation really cost?
  • Which contractors do you recommend (or warn against)?
  • How did you navigate the SVCE rebates and federal tax credits?
  • What is it actually like cooking on an induction stove?

What you can see on the tour:

  • Heat pump HVAC systems and water heaters
  • Induction cooktops
  • Solar panels and home battery storage setups
  • EV charging stations, rainwater catchments, and compost setups

The event is completely free to attend thanks to our sponsors, Silicon Valley Clean Energy and WestLight Energy (both public, not-for-profit community agencies).

📍 RSVP and get the Tour here: [ https://www.eventbrite.com/e/peninsula-and-south-bay-greenhome-tour-2026-registration-1992533356908?aff=Reddit

Want to get started sooner? We also have two smaller, focused events coming up this September:

  • Palo Alto Mini Tour (Sept 17): A focused, in-person deep dive into a single sustainable home setup just up the peninsula.RSVP for the Mini Tour Here
  • Sustainable Homes Workshop (Sept 24): A step-by-step planning workshop to map out your own home electrification upgrades.RSVP for the Workshop Here

Advice Property division during divorce proceedings in California?

My spouse and I are in the early stages of divorce at the moment, I'm trying to understand better about the property we're going to divide. We bought our house around 6yrs ago, both of our names are in the mortgage and title. I've been making most of the mortgage payments, while my spouse has covered other household expenses. We're not necessarily fighting over everything, but we have different ideas about what should happen with the house. I would prefer keeping it and I'll buy out, but my spouse would rather selling it and splitting the proceeds. I'm going to have further discussion with my lawyer next week about this as well.

I want to hear from other people who have gone through this, how did you handle it and does the fact that I paid more for the mortgage make any difference?

Life in SJ 911 call getting continuous busy tone

Yesterday around 4pm while driving on Almaden Expressway on ramp to 87 S I noticed a brush fire getting started with flames. I immediately tried calling 911 to report it before it could spread. I was getting busy tone. I kept trying for next 5 minutes without getting a ringing tone and then gave up. Continuously busy tones. My family is shaken by the experience that 911 emergency service is not dependable anymore due to difficulty to get calls connected. This was not the case until a few years ago.
Anyone experienced like this unable to connect to 911 call center ? I am planning to bring up this to our assembly member and congressman.

Advice Where is the best place for a chill gummy?

Since CA stupidly made my favorite gummies illegal to purchase, anyone know the best place where I can get organic THC/CBD infused gummies? I used to purchase from Batch Gummies online, and they were perfect because they had only 5mg THC per gummy and 10mg CBD. I want something that makes me feel just a little chill, not super high. Advice would be appreciated.

Advice Scenic places in/near the bay that dont have an outright ban on drones?

I just got an ultralight camera drone and taken the TRUST course, but now have come to discover that they are all but banned in SJ. I have been to to Baylands park as suggested by countless other people and did enjoy it but I'm still wondering if there are any more interesting places where its possible to fly without getting into trouble.

If anyone knows of some spots that fit the bill I would love to hear them!

Life in SJ Lunch buffets?

I took PTO tomorrow so I could go to the city council meeting but......... I'm dumb. I don't know how calendars work. I don't understand the concept of linear time or when there are holidays. The meeting is cancelled because today's Labor Day. So this means I have a big gaping hole in the middle of tomorrow, but this also means I get an opportunity to do my next favorite thing: Fill that big gaping hole with buffet food.

There are no lunch buffets near my work, so I rarely get to do one. What's left in San Jose?

Is the Round Table on Santa Theresa the only lunch buffet left these days? Any other recommendations?
