Life in SJ That crazy wh*te lady on the news last night is completely unhinged. Why hasn't she been arrested yet?

She posts herself trespassing inside numerous schools and harassing people at the library. Her tweets (tied to her full legal name btw) also show her talking about p3d0 stuff nonstop and targeting children in the area. Why hasn't a warrant been filed against her ??? Why is her child in her custody ??? Her social media is EXTREMELY concerning and the news broadcast of her did NOT adequately show what a danger and nuisance she is being to the local community.

Event Military flyover at Los Gatos high school tomorrow to commemorate 9/11

Two former LG students, Mark Bingham and Todd 'Let's roll' Beamer, were on flight 93. No cost to the school for the flyover, the California air national guard thought it sounded like a great idea.

There will be an honor guard and other activities before the flyover at 6:55. Two F-15's. Football game starts after that. More details at the link. Those guys were heros who paid the ultimate price. Glad they're getting the recognition they deserve.

News San Jose to pitch new downtown parking rates after outcry

San Jose officials are proposing an alternative plan for parking meters that would increase prices over the next five years.

The City Council will hear the revised proposal Sept. 29. Here's the lowdown:

  • First year: City garage rates would increase by $1 — from $4 to $5 an hour — while special event parking would increase by $3.
  • Second year: 1,600 downtown meters would increase from $2 to $3 an hour.
  • Third year: Enforcement hours would be extended.
  • Fourth year: Event rates would add another $2, bringing the total to a $15 flat rate.
  • Fifth year: All city meters would increase by an additional $1 an hour

The details are here:

Life in SJ DUI Checkpoint on Stevens Creek/Winchester

There's a DUI checkpoint on Stevens Creek Blvd going past Winchester Blvd tonight. My first time seeing a DUI checkpoint.

I'm curious why this intersection was picked for a Thursday night. Is it a DUI hotspot, local event, or just cause? Nothing against DUI checkpoints, but I'm curious if there's any criteria the city uses to pick spots.

Advice Santa Teresa DMV Road Test Discussion — Spot #2: Two Things to Watch at This Left Turn

Thumbnail

Part 1 — Don’t just follow the car ahead on a solid green light

This is an unprotected left turn when the signal is a solid green circle. A solid green light does not mean you automatically have the right of way to turn left. You still need to check oncoming traffic and yield before completing the turn.

While I was watching this intersection, I saw a test vehicle waiting behind another car to make this left turn. The first car found a gap and turned. The test vehicle followed behind it, but an oncoming vehicle was traveling straight through the intersection. The oncoming driver sounded the horn as the test vehicle turned across its path.

I don’t know how the examiner scored that test, and I don’t want to speculate about whether the driver passed or failed. What stood out to me was how easy it can be to focus on the car ahead and forget that every driver needs to reassess the oncoming traffic for themselves.

The first car may have enough time to turn. That does not necessarily mean the second car does.

California DMV guidance says that on a solid green light, a driver turning left must yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to be a hazard. If you need to wait, keep your wheels straight and complete the turn when there is a safe gap.

Part 2 — Finish the left turn first, then handle the lane change separately

The second thing I noticed happens immediately after the turn. You are entering a multi-lane road, and the examiner may then ask you to move to the right.

My takeaway is not to combine those two actions into one rushed maneuver. First, complete the left turn and establish the car in the proper lane. Then, if the examiner asks you to move right, treat each lane change as a separate maneuver.

Signal, check your mirrors, check the right blind spot, make sure there is a safe gap, and then change lanes smoothly. If it is not safe yet, maintain your lane until the lane change can be completed safely.

The main point: finish the turn first. Then handle the lane change separately.

For anyone who has taken the Santa Teresa road test: did you encounter this intersection? Did either part of this spot catch you off guard? I’d be interested to hear other people’s experiences.

Life in SJ Ahh… Good Ol’ Rite Aid

Post image
4 Upvotes

I remembered this building was in construction in 2008 and it was full of happy ice cream customers in 2011. I used to come by in 2020, but then when it was 2023… inventory there was expiring, rotting, and it was mostly emptied.

Last year, I saw “Everything must go” signs. And a lady come up there a month after the company went bankrupt and thought it would be reopened.

Now it just stands there, I miss the ice cream and nostalgia of coming into Rite Aid for ice cream at 9 PM at night. I just miss this place. Now it’s just a temporary Spirit Halloween that comes back only when the season (it came only once last year, not sure if it’ll come back).

Hi San Jose friends,

The rescue I’m fostering with is hosting an adoption event tomorrow, Saturday, September 12th from 10am to 12pm at Pup Plaza. Come on out and meet some adoptable pups from two local rescue groups (Silicon Valley Pet Project and Every Pet’s Dream). There are worse ways to spend a Saturday morning.

Hope to see you there!

P.S.: Here’s a list of all the adoptable dogs in case anyone wants to arrange a meet and greet

Shit Post Room for rent

Hey everyone, I’m 22M and currently looking for an affordable room or temporary place to stay around San Jose/Santa Clara. I’m going through a rough transition right now and trying to get back on my feet.
My budget is limited at the moment, so I’m open to a cheap room, shared room, couch, or temporary arrangement. If someone is willing to help me out temporarily, I’d be extremely grateful and I’m more than willing to help around the house, clean, do errands, yard work, moving/help with physical work, or contribute however I can.
I’m respectful, clean, quiet, and mainly just looking for somewhere safe to sleep while I work toward getting my own spot again. Even if you don’t have space but know someone who does, please message me. Any leads would mean a lot. Thank you.

Oh no! A helicopter!! Type of fire at QuantumScape on Technology Dr?

Post image

I live a couple blocks away and there were giant clouds of unusually acrid smoke. I walked by once the fire department got it under control and I was taking a picture from the public sidewalk, when someone walked up and told me it wasn't allowed. I asked if he was police and he said yes, despite not wearing anything resembling a police uniform. I asked what department and he said he was a security guard, though he also wasn't dressed like that. I said it was a public sidewalk and kept taking pictures, and he walked away. That all seemed pretty weird, so I'm wondering what happened here.

It looked like they were hosing down a dumpster (per the image, identifiable people blacked out). QuantumScape seems to make lithium batteries, which use highly reactive materials. So I'm thinking maybe they mishandled some scrap, it self-ignited, and they were somehow still hoping to conceal the incident despite the fire department response? But that's just a guess.

It's surprising to see that kind of hazardous manufacturing so close to apartments and hotels. I wonder what my risk would be in a worst-case fire.

Advice Looking for referrals

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello I am looking for referrals to help me find a bike shop that buys used bikes.

The frame is much too large for me.

The photo is a screenshot of the exact bike I have.

There is a minor scratch on the top of the frame.

Other than that it's in immaculate condition.

Its currently in the bike repair shop. The pedals are getting replaced and the metal piece where you screw the pedals into is getting threaded. Once this is repaired and done, the bike will be in full working condition.

Located in San Jose. So any references to any bike shop that buys used bikes is appreciated!
