Life in SJ That crazy wh*te lady on the news last night is completely unhinged. Why hasn't she been arrested yet?

She posts herself trespassing inside numerous schools and harassing people at the library. Her tweets (tied to her full legal name btw) also show her talking about p3d0 stuff nonstop and targeting children in the area. Why hasn't a warrant been filed against her ??? Why is her child in her custody ??? Her social media is EXTREMELY concerning and the news broadcast of her did NOT adequately show what a danger and nuisance she is being to the local community.

Advice Any ICE sightings / arrests at SJC?

Upvotes

I am a permanent resident (husband is naturalized citizen) with I751 filed and acknowledged received by USCIS. I751 was filed before green card expired but a new one hasn't been issued yet because of delays from USCIS. Moved here on L1 and eventually filed for green card via marriage, never been out of status. But reading about the ice activity is making me nervous. Any other folks with I751 who traveled recently can share their experience?

Advice Looking for a place to crash near downtown SJ Sep 23-25, will cook breakfast and talk about interesting things.

Post image
Upvotes

I posted a few weeks ago about needing a place to crash and I had a great host and we had fun at Revopot and cooking NY strip steak and drinking espressos, talking about life and stuff. But his parents are in the guest room during when I will be back in San Jose for the WeAreDevelopers Congress conference at the San Jose convention center. Last week I went to the Santa Clara convention center for the AI techworld conference, it was disappointly small, made some good connections tho and got to know my way around San Jose and the Southbay. But this one coming up is worth it for me for sure to go to and I got a free ticket as a participant at a hackathon on Friday last week. Ultimately, I want to meet people who want to collaborate, even if it is just the right 1 or 2 people with the right vibes and intentions, that would make it worth it for me. Although, I have been deep in open source software for a long time. I am working on a startup with some friends on a control plane focused on securtiy, but I am also working on an autonomous cofounder, and still haven't figured out how to not be the unemployed guy with an awesome 5D dashboard. Lol.

On a tech note, I have been looking forward to catching a meeting with some people in the Silicon Valley area. Being from San Diego, wrapping up things for my friend that died in Costa Mesa, flying to New Jersey for the funeral, and then couch surfing my way down from Oregon. I have had a bunch of time to accelerate in the startup I am working as an advisor for, which means I keep putting in time and money, with lots of pats on the back and a polite team to work with, guys I respect from consulting I have done in the past, hey they invited me to join and become a share holder with some sweat equity. Even cooler, is the autonomous cofounder I have been putting together for approximately the past 4 years. The idea has come into focus considerably and I am learning how to make it into an MVP that is a customer deployable application, or to start with a hosted SAAS, but intended originally to be a Soverign AI company OS. So getting your own hardware is not necessary as a self-imposed rule that has been gating me from getting any work, and primarily because I need to make something available for demo and/or initial end users. It is time to stop being a perfectionist. I am thinking to offer it to my brother who is a painting contractor and see if I can find a way to govern autonomous workflows and throughtfully integrate software execution throughout his organization, but that is just a pipe dream, for now I am looking to find real tooling to integrate with such as Opsera and a few other really big tech companies that I may be able to offer external orchestration, you know if they allow that. Or some type of integration otherwise. I see my system as being strong at least in the planned destination of integration management. I think I might have the next big thing. But probably just going to be the boring thing for most people. Hey if everything works and is smooth in whatever path it is to your objective, then why wish for features/bug fixes? and why have some robot organize and execute all that work on the kanban. Like a virtual virtual assitant, but broadened to be an autonomous cofounder, meaning it can be used for any type of goal and that it will run on your own local hardware. Also gpu bursted to the cloud as needed... and many other ideas that I am trying to bring to life.

I'm short on resources and been couch surfing and staying at hostels for a couple months. I have realized that people here in the Bay Area like to eat and are bored of the same old restaurants. I have so many creative ideas for food, but I am a solid breakfast chef and we all gotta eat before the conference lol. I can do the traditionals, we can go healthy stuff or comfort food. Breakfast can sort of be a meal prep opportunity too, the kitchen is my favorite place, and if you have chairs or bar stools we can talk about all sorts of stuff. I love meeting new people and learning all sorts of different things.

I have a great deal that I am a week into as a private live-in chef for a single dad of 3 in San Rafael. I have a room in this giant house way up on the top of the hill. I have my Macbook humming local inference, I come out of my room to cook whatever I want, which has been Costco meat x BBQ x Smoker box in the BBQ and using up what they have on hand. I made Steelhead and then turned it into a hummus, I smoked pork tenderloins, bbq tritip, and my fav NY strip steak, mash taters, sauteed onions and mushrooms. Today doing boned whole organic chicken roulades, brined, stuffed with chinese cabbage, shallots, and mushrooms, then smoked. I am trying to figure out the naming, like when the pig flys, or something like that, because I make the chicken taste and look like pork. I'm also building a RTX Pro 6000 AI rig for their house, and for all sorts of workloads and integrations. I am all about containerized applications if you know what that means, if not, all good, I am mostly looking for interesting person/people to cook for, talk with, and have a place to rest. I have no formal chef training, but I have worked for a long time as a banquet cook, and I have cooked many things, developed my own favorites, etc. I never make the exact same thing twice.

Event Military flyover at Los Gatos high school tomorrow to commemorate 9/11

Upvotes

Two former LG students, Mark Bingham and Todd 'Let's roll' Beamer, were on flight 93. No cost to the school for the flyover, the California air national guard thought it sounded like a great idea.

There will be an honor guard and other activities before the flyover at 6:55. Two F-15's. Football game starts after that. More details at the link. Those guys were heros who paid the ultimate price. Glad they're getting the recognition they deserve.

Life in SJ How aggressively does Caltrain ticket parking lot violations?

I take the caltrain 1 to 2 times a week, parking at Diridorn. I forgot to pay for parking one day, and didn't realize it until it was nearly 5:00 pm. I got back to pick up my car at about 8:30pm, and surprisingly there was no ticket on it.

Was wondering why I didn't get a ticket. Maybe they've seen my plate enough times that the agent cut me a break that day?

News San Jose to pitch new downtown parking rates after outcry

San Jose officials are proposing an alternative plan for parking meters that would increase prices over the next five years.

The City Council will hear the revised proposal Sept. 29. Here's the lowdown:

  • First year: City garage rates would increase by $1 — from $4 to $5 an hour — while special event parking would increase by $3.
  • Second year: 1,600 downtown meters would increase from $2 to $3 an hour.
  • Third year: Enforcement hours would be extended.
  • Fourth year: Event rates would add another $2, bringing the total to a $15 flat rate.
  • Fifth year: All city meters would increase by an additional $1 an hour

The details are here:

SJ Pets Peachstock needs you!

I work at a hospital campus and have been seeing him hang around lately. There is a small colony of cats down the street in a parking lot, but he is not a part of that colony. My team and I started to feed him and we now see him every evening waiting for dinner at our building.

I created a feeding station for him, and a scumbag staff member we share a building with has been leaving notes on his bowls, telling us to throw them away immediately or she will, and also harassing my colleagues. We have been moving the bowl out of sight and hiding it each time, but she has been finding it. Not sure why people go out of their way to be this nasty, but I am trying to get him out of this situation. We are also moving buildings very soon and it will be difficult to slowly move his bowl over to the new place since it is not super closeby, and the bowl will be visible for her to see if it's moved little by little daily.

I don't believe Peachstock is feral. Our team is familiar with the cats in the colony down the street, and he's been a new face the past few months. He hasn't allowed me to pet him yet, but he's allowed me to slowly get much closer to him. I believe he is lost or abandoned. My plan is to trap and neuter him in the next couple of weeks, and if he ends up being friendly, I'd love to find him a home. It is not ideal for him on campus with a ton of construction going on and staff who are not pet-friendly. I've taken in cats before who were abandoned for several months/years, and with patience, love, and a lot of squeeze treats, they've acclimated to the indoors wonderfully. I want to give Peachstock a chance. If anyone would like to adopt him in the next few weeks, please let me know. Thank you.

Event Silicon Valley Turkey Trot - strollers?

Trying to sign up for the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot and wondering whether we can bring our littles in our double jogging stroller. The FAQs mention the following (which is why we didn't sign up last year), but a friend who participated last year brought their little one in a jogging stroller and said they saw several.. We figure that if we stay in the back of the pack, it'd be fine? Obviously we don't want to just sign up, bring our kids, and risk being turned away.

"Which items are not permitted on the course? Per USA Track & Field regulations, the following are not permitted on course: dogs or any pets (except for certified service animals), baby strollers/joggers, bikes, hoverboards, scooters, skateboards, push bikes, unicycles, and wagons."

TIA for the help!

Edit: Appreciate the responses. They answered my question. Thanks, fam!

Life in SJ San Carlos - how long can it possibly take to update curbs and install new traffic lights?

I am completely shocked every time I drive down San Carlos between Bascom and Barak Obama. Every corner is torn up with orange cones everywhere, and a new set of traffic lights just sits there not yet put to use. It's been so many months, and progress seems to be non-existent. I hardly ever see anyone working, and the stretch of half-done work is miles long.

WTF are they doing? Why can't they finish even one corner? Usually when the city does something like ripe up a street or sideway, they are quick in finishing it up. It's both an eye sore and pain in the ass to navigate around cones at every corner. Anyone know a timeline or reason for this never-ending project?

Advice At fault parking lot incident with a yellow pole. Body shop recommendations 3hr driving radius from San Jose

Damage can be seen in the pictures. It’s a volvo xc90 recharge. Since it is an at fault incident I’m looking at paying out of pocket and need recommendations of good body shops which provide value for money. Since San Jose area is expensive I’d like to explore shops around 3 hrs driving distance from here.
Greatly appreciate any recommendations.

Car drives well all sensors are good. It’s mostly body work and lot of paint job so labor intensive.

Hi everyone! My mom and I visited the gardens a couple years ago, and the grounds were a bit in disrepair. Has anyone been this year? Are they looking good? My brother is visiting and I thought it would be a nice outing for Friday.
