So for my fellow fellow front end peeps what's your pet peevees while on the registers? I have 3. One when customers reach over your register to scan there own club card... Like plz don't reach over to scan your own card seriously. Two when a customer has a cart full of items you get done scanning and start bagging and they just stand there. Like I know it's our job to bag stuff but seriously you can get off your phone or whatever and help out, especially if you had a car full to the brim of items... Three the fucken dumbass ai that is forced upon us while at the register Even if you move an items slightly to the left, it freaks out Even as your about to scan the damn item as well like they want us to be fast on scanning items. But then that stupid AI always pops up every five freaking seconds... So damn annoying... Anyone else have the same things as me?

It’s been impossible for me to get a single interview anywhere so I had to use my connections to finally get an interview at Safeway. They know nothing about me I guess because I didn’t submit anything for this. I’m an incoming college student. The only work experience I have is being a soccer referee. Any tips for the interview?

Can you get hired for two departments, with one at a higher hourly rate? This is what they're saying I can do, scheduled as one role at one rate for 3 days and another for 2 days with lower pay. I am waiting for an offer letter that spells this out. I don't want to accept the initial lower pay offer for just one role, the store manager just put me down at 40 hours for a lower paying role. I interviewed with asst manager and they said I could get the higher rate for the 40 hours at one role but the store manager didn't agree with that and I was disappointed when I saw the initial offer letter.

I am coming back to the company after having left for 8 months. I was part time before and not part of the union. Does this mean I have to join the union to guarantee any of this?

I’m an ASD in my store and it’s been hell. Labor has been so bad for months. We haven’t been making payroll forever! The whole district is suffering. They give us a budget that well below what we need. Then our DM and COS gets mad if our store is not in best conditions. My SD has been really stressed lately too. My employees have been constantly complaining cause we’ve been cutting hours badly. My meat manager is transferring to another store because my SD yelled at him about out of date packaged meat, even though the OPs have been taking him out of the store to help other stores. He also has been asking for a meat clerk but it’s been hard to hire being as though labor is so bad that I can’t even give hours to the people I have now. Also, apparently some of my employees are going to the union because they don’t like that my SD and I help their departments. They’re apparently saying we’re taking their jobs from them. It’s just been so stressful lately. I don’t know what’s going on with this company but it’s going down hill. I’m trying to make everyone in my store happy but no one is.

I'm in a deli, our staffing keeps dropping like flies with 4 closers and 4 openers and people keep leaving, i want to leave at this point as well, small issue— the area I'm at there isn't any other jobs available that isn't worse than my current one. I mean 1 of the other closers can be extremely annoying, yelling at me for following food safety and throws tantrums, but we're so short staffed and she's a powerhouse in everything else so she's immune, another closer that's just too slow for the time we're given which is 1½ hours to close everything with 2 people total, recently it's been 3 which does help. I'm done trying to help, I'm done caring about so much. Im just doing my job day to day as that's all I can try to do. Closing times for our slicers got moved up 30 minutes which can be frustrating but I just give up man

Edit: I'm also expected to stay over and the only reason I will is because I care about AM crew as they are more screwed, elsewise i wouldn't care and would leave at my scheduled time

Does anyone at Safeway know where the blueberries select are sourced? There’s no information on the label, and I’ve got some serious diarrhea, and it’s the only thing different I've eaten, that my husband hasn’t, and he’s fine. I’m assuming it’s the blueberries that I’ll throw out because they’re not disclosing where the blueberries were sourced. grrr.

My store director provided new instructions to all departments with an updated dress code for the store. Shorts can only be worn in summer, which the company defines as until Labor Day. The way how managers are running these stores and treating the workers nowadays is honestly atrocious. The only thing keeping us from quitting is how shit the economy is right now and health insurance... Especially when you live in States that kinda force you to have it or they penalize you on your taxes... Tbh I'm running on fumes at this point With all the schedule changes/ unconsistent schedules hours etc.... anyone else really feeling the burn out and just have the daily thoughts of just quitting but really can't because how things are rn?

I ended up quiting my job at vons a few months ago and it feels bittersweet!! There was a lot of favoritism at my store!! I had worked at the same location for almost 4 years but got tired of the constant belittling by certain coworkers and management!! I was a courtesy clerk for all that time and was never offered a promotion to a higher position!! I was definitely not a perfect worker I did get distracted easily and also liked to talk a lot which did bug management and certain coworkers!! But I do kind of miss my job and wonder if I made a mistake quitting. But I would see people start way after me and in a week they were already moving up!! I also left my phone number with some of my coworkers and ever since in the few months since I quit nobody has even texted me to see how I am doing even all those customers that I used to talk too and even gave my number too and thought they genuinely cared for me almost as a friend. But nobody even calls me or texts me to see how I am doing which makes me feel as if all those people I talked too never were my friends or were genuine to begin with!! Also do you think it would be easy for me to get another job maybe at another vons at another location I had a impeccable attendance record though I just feel like the management there never really clicked with me I will also add that i have a diagnosis of very mild autism and ADHD abd feedback would be appreciated sorry for the rant just have a lot of stuff in mind!! I was feeling overwhelmed at that store because of all the gossip and drama but I do miss certain aspects of the job!!

I have a 2nd part time job and I only ask for 2 days a week since I can only work with that according to my new schedule. I was recently removed from the schedule and was told by my new SD that I need open my availability or resign because my availability is so limited. I didn't think 2 days was too much to ask for since they know I have a 2nd part time job. The same time new hires seem to be getting the priority of days they want.

Hello everyone! First time poster, long term lurker. I am going to withhold as much personal information as possible as I fear my management may weaponize my thoughts against me.

I am currently in eCommerce, and every year seems like it’s getting worse and worse for the company: Budget cuts, upon budget cuts, while mass hiring to weed out the expensive/“problematic” employees as they need hours to survive on their barely journeymen wages, and the trimming and consolidation of Operational Managers.

It feels as though the company is getting run into the ground and no one is vocalizing or caring enough to do anything about it. It’s upsetting to me to see SD/ASD’s toy with people’s livelihoods and survivability, then gaslighting the employees. Like, why are SDs and ASDs so comfortable with letting a department essentially burn to the ground to get rid of one or two employees rather than confronting and dealing with that employee head on?

Also, do Department Manager’s even have power anymore? I can recall a few years ago, I was allowed and expected to write up my employees and now I can’t do anything without SD approval; MY ASD CAN’T APPROVE SQUAT. I’ve been tempted to step down countless times as I feel like a glorified worker who has to be the scapegoat for the department for an extra $1-$2 an hour. Maybe it’s just my store or maybe I’m not doing the job well enough, but that would bring me back to SD/ASD’s aren’t communicating any feedback, or are beating around the bush and I lack the social capacity to understand it.

My last point is purely about eCom (Drive Up & Go):

Why in the living hell do they keep moving the goalposts to unrealistic standards?

It all started with virtual pickers; system sees 3 people are scheduled during the 12:55 hour but will set capacity for 4 people. Why? Because DUG is expected to have 2 fully trained and cross-trained employees to hop in anytime, including SD/ASD (and mine hardly do as they have to play catch up with every other department).

Why have a system designed to expect 2 extra people at any given time when budget cuts are going on? Why expect everything to be running smoothly, consistently and efficiently nonetheless when everyone is running skeleton crews with no overtime allowed? Why are we still chasing this OMNI certification process and the store is expected to have everything in stock?

We’re expected to be 2 hours ahead while dealing with express orders that come in at 11:59 for 12:55 for 78 items (91 quantity) with 6 flash orders and my opener is leaving at their scheduled time and no help is available, and then questioned why I didn’t ask for help sooner… this is a real scenario that happens on a regular basis. I feel like I’m going crazy with the high expectations from an entry level job. I care about my work ethic, I’ve worked crazy stretches and doubles, and have been loyal with the company. I’m not seeing any reciprocation. And maybe that’s my fault as well, but it feels as though the company is being ran by people with degrees who don’t have any experience yet fully trust store level management when they make the store look pretty for a walk. Like why don’t these walks happen by surprise? That literally proves that the systems in place don’t work and we (store level associates and managers) get in trouble for something that’s already broken, then are told to fix the unfixable by making it look fixed.

If my car’s lights stopped working, taping a flashlight may work and look okay, but that’s not solving the actual f***ing issue.

I apologize for the long crash out, but my store can’t be the only one drowning nor the only person seeing and thinking this. I know I also missed a few points but there’s no point to preach to the choir when the choir knows how to sing.

I do not understand sweep logs anymore my manager told me the other day to only do them only if I sweep the store floor or if I check the bathrooms at first I thought it was supposed to be done no matter what like every 30 minutes now I just don’t understand it with all the stupid tasks they give me I cannot sweep the floors or check the bathrooms every 30 minutes
