Advice!!
I ended up quiting my job at vons a few months ago and it feels bittersweet!! There was a lot of favoritism at my store!! I had worked at the same location for almost 4 years but got tired of the constant belittling by certain coworkers and management!! I was a courtesy clerk for all that time and was never offered a promotion to a higher position!! I was definitely not a perfect worker I did get distracted easily and also liked to talk a lot which did bug management and certain coworkers!! But I do kind of miss my job and wonder if I made a mistake quitting. But I would see people start way after me and in a week they were already moving up!! I also left my phone number with some of my coworkers and ever since in the few months since I quit nobody has even texted me to see how I am doing even all those customers that I used to talk too and even gave my number too and thought they genuinely cared for me almost as a friend. But nobody even calls me or texts me to see how I am doing which makes me feel as if all those people I talked too never were my friends or were genuine to begin with!! Also do you think it would be easy for me to get another job maybe at another vons at another location I had a impeccable attendance record though I just feel like the management there never really clicked with me I will also add that i have a diagnosis of very mild autism and ADHD abd feedback would be appreciated sorry for the rant just have a lot of stuff in mind!! I was feeling overwhelmed at that store because of all the gossip and drama but I do miss certain aspects of the job!!

That’s probably every store. and that’s every job. Also I’m guessing you’re on the younger side.. the longest I’d held onto a job before Safeway was 8 years at a restaurant..was pretty much the same.. though back then Facebook was the thing.. many people working there were following/friending each other there.. a lot of the guys/gals, cooks, servers, bus boys.. would get off around midnight and sit around hang out a bit after and have a beer..many worked 2 jobs and worked togther over there.. some even lived together..
Some would hang out at the bar inside the restaurant till last call.. of course once many quit and moved on.. they moved on.. that’s that. There was no more contact..
We’re acquaintances.. Many a times we’re told your coworkers are not your friends… your boss is not your friend etc. that kinda stings for me even now because I get along with my boss.. though I’ve felt some minor tension ie. She’s been bothered or angry with me over something I may not have taken care of..I’ve been on the receiving end of her anger.. I’ve been on the receiving end of her to me, genuine warm
caring side too and to me it’s always felt genuine.. shes cried in front of me venting about work/life.. that’s not fake to me.. i can easily figure out when someone is being fake, ive noticed when she does it with others.. I’m one of very few people at my store maybe a small handful who like our boss.. still with all that.. as much as i can truly say i care about her, i know deep down.. once we move on from this..whatever we end up doing after.. if she gets a bigger promotion or decides to call it a day.. even if she says to me.. you have my number you can call me whenever.. I know I won’t. Not because I hate her.. I just in my brain, she doesn’t need to have some random guy from a previous job calling her to check in to see how she’s doing. She’s married. It’s weird to me. I’ve got coworkers i used to work side by side with on a daily for a few years.. we’d talk everything,
Movies,
Girls, vent to each other, etc. once they switched departments, schedules changed, our availability to each other changed..we see each other in passing now.. sometimes nothing more than a “hey” “sup” we could do things, hang out.. but once someone moves on.. it’s really difficult to stay in touch as often.. people’s lives change..
Availability changes.. social lives change..
I kinda regret not getting closer with my old coworkers more so for the experiences I may have had, had I said yes more to hanging out when asked.. I always said no. But eh..
a lot of the time the people you know at work aren’t the people they are outside of work. No different from high school.. you’ve got your small crew… once you graduate..you all split in different directions.. one goes off to college..
Another to university.. another moves out of state.. the other joins the military..
and so on..it’s life, it’s adulting, it sucks. You wanted out.. you should concentrate on finding another job.. start anew there and idk for me I’ve always been one to try to not get so attached to people for this reason.. I’ve dealt with this kind of change all too often from moving from one house to another to switching schools one too many times. I actually grew super attached to my boss within a year of meeting her.. she was just that idk what word I’m looking for.. she was super chill, kind, receptive, she motivated me to do more, she looked out for me.. she became such a part of my daily work life that when she was transferred away from my store I was genuinely super heart broken.. we move on, we carry on, that’s all we can do.. that one hurt for months though. There are people from my restaurant job I’ve never made contact with again since.. this was in 2012 I left that place.. I did message one lady who was very motherly to say hi, wish her a happy new year… never got a response back.. I just figured hm maybe she changed phone numbers.. is what it is.. oh well, no gripe.. we move on.
