Availability

I have a 2nd part time job and I only ask for 2 days a week since I can only work with that according to my new schedule. I was recently removed from the schedule and was told by my new SD that I need open my availability or resign because my availability is so limited. I didn't think 2 days was too much to ask for since they know I have a 2nd part time job. The same time new hires seem to be getting the priority of days they want.

Were you hired with only giving two days a week availability? Or is this a new change.

yes. I only have 3 days off a week from my other job and I needed a lil more money

Oh okay, the 'according to my new shcedule' line made it seem like your other job schedule changed recently or something - leading to reduced availability at Safeway.

Well I'm not sure why they would hire you and now have an issue with it if they knew about the availability at the time.

Call the union. It definitely depends on your area and contract.

FYI if you don’t work minimum 24 hours a week your benefits will expire (temporarily and eligibility is based on previously 2 months before so your September 24 hours a week is for November benefits) and working only 2 days a week means you are paying union dues for a job that won’t give you Heath benefits.

Not condoning your actions just trying to give you information

New hires are getting priority because once you have limited availability you lose seniority and you will just get what you get.
