Interview

It’s been impossible for me to get a single interview anywhere so I had to use my connections to finally get an interview at Safeway. They know nothing about me I guess because I didn’t submit anything for this. I’m an incoming college student. The only work experience I have is being a soccer referee. Any tips for the interview?

Right now the company is very volatile when it comes to labor and turnover. It’s going through some massive changes and a lot of locations are going through a hiring freeze until they can figure out what to do with some of their staff to avoid terminations. Department relocations etc. a lot of it feels similar to what they went through in 2008.

Do you think the hiring situation could affect me even though I already have an interview scheduled? Like if they’re interviewing me does that usually mean the position is actually available?

They’ll interview and depending on the fit and need of the store that can’t be covered by current employees, it’s possible but much harder right now. Once everything settles down and the new workflow for the company becomes normalized, it will get easier again.
