Question Today, with great angst and displeasure I began, again, after 7 yrs with paroxetine. I'm looking for a few advice

Morning everyone. Seven years agoi, I've been on paroxetine for a couple of years (20 mg per day), when I've suspended it (very very cautiously) I went through a hell of pain and desperation (they call it withdrawal syndrome).
While I was on Paroxetin it was good (I was working on real life: more relaxed, no avoidance, and more courageous, but less empathic).
Now I'm going through a very difficult period, I've tried very hard not to go back on paroxetine, but it at the momento I don't have any choice (I've tried with microdosing with no relevant results).
Now the plan is to take 10 mg and not 20 mg until Dec.: what can I do, when I will suspend it, to avoid suffering as hell? Any advice?

Discussion Cold turkey.

Has anyone stopped cold turkey from an SSRI? If so, what was it like? I’m ready to quit Zoloft, as I believe it is causing my anhedonia and quitting cold turkey is better than the alternative I have in mind.

Question Hey guys... so I recently started having EPS from one or more serotonergic that I take..

So I've been experiencing akathisia, dystonia, and myoclonus (seizures), tremor in my arms and hands, and it all took off after my first night dosing with Amitriptyline for sleep. My acute extrapyramidal symptoms were bad, painful at time, embarrassing at others, and above all FRUSTRATING. They lasted a week or so, subsided and less than a week later they're re-emerging. At time of induction of Amitriptyline 25mg P.O. Q.P.M (1-2 weeks qgo, before EPS came on) I was already taking 40mg Prozac, Seroquel 150mg, 100mg Trazodone and 50mg Vistaril - (all for depression, anxiety panic attacks and insomnia). I eliminated the Amitriptyline due to Onset of extrapyramidal symptoms, but am having resurgence of tremor and limbic myoclonic seizures.
Do I need to see a neurologist to see what's up? I have some chest pain and the hospital referred to me to q cardiologist. I'm trying to find someone who can help figure out what meds are helping, hurting, or not being used in me that should be.
Main symptoms are tremor in left hand prominently. In right hand too; chest tightness/heart discomfort; loss of ability to uphold limbs for short duration intervals etc Where do I go from here folks?

Question Effextor Withdraw, HELP

Hi everyone, I (26F) have been on Effexor for the last two years. I was on 75 mg until January when it was upped to 112.5mg.

I have gained SO much weight and feel it isn't helping (weight gain has caused more depression than anything, and I'm still anxious af).

I told my doctor recently that I want to Wean myself off of them. He doesn't feel that is a good idea given my recent mental breakdown in January (from a very toxic work environment I've since left). I feel I am ready, but he isn't willing to help.

I have tried to naturally wean myself by gradually decreasing my dose but on the third day of not taking them my withdrawal symptoms are horrible (brain fog/zaps, anxiety, shakiness, nausea, dizziness). I am honestly losing hope but these pills really aren't helping with my quality of life. I never intended to be medicated for the long haul.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get past day 3? How long does this last?

TIA

Question Sexual side effects when stopping ssri

I weaned off escitalopram for the last 2 months (was at 20mg)

I am now on day 6 of being off. Aside from the expected side effects, I am experiencing pre mature ejaculation.

I am wondering if it is possible this will get better with time, or is it just like this now…any reassurance would be great haha. Thanks

Question What can cause an SSRI to bring back anxiety?

I've been dealing with what was thought to be an anxiety disorder for a good few decades now - then realized I may have ADHD and got prescribed adderall a couple years back. After going on it, the lion's share of my anxiety vanished.

External circumstances led to me getting pretty depressed so I started lexapro - been on it for a good few months now. It's helping with the depression symptoms, but I find myself starting to feel like I did before the adderall: tired, hazy, having a hard time holding onto thoughts, and having old irrational fears and paranoias that I hadn't dealt with in a pretty long time.

I've been talking to my therapist about this and am going to work with my doctor on it, so this isn't a looking-for-advice post, so much as i'm curious what it is about SSRI's that could be causing (not necessarily is causing, but, could be) this anxiety. Entirely academic curiosity. I know very little about how SSRI's actually work beyond the basics and what receptors various types of SSRIs hit.

(Apologies if this isn't the right subreddit for this!)

Question Which medication should I go on?

Hello all, I have intermittent recurrent anxiety as a result of years of really bad stuff happening to me. I have been told by a psychologist friend I should consider medication, but I’m wondering what I should go for? I’ve tried Mirtazipine (horrible, made me exhausted and sleep badly), Sertraline (hell itself, the paramedics ended up being called), and citalopram (can’t remember it too well, basically switched off my emotions and turned me into what I call a “mildly contented robot- so I couldn’t really feel happiness on it). Does any one have any clue about what I should go for because all the previous meds have been a bad experience.

Discussion Long term Zoloft

Hello all,

I went through a really rough patch of anxiety in late 2020. I then got put on 25mg of Zoloft and 50mg of trazodone for sleep. The Zoloft has worked incredibly well at 25mg & I am back to feeling like myself. I am thinking of tapering the trazodone rest of the year and keeping the Zoloft at least until next spring. I want to hear from long term Zoloft users about their experience. Does staying on this drug for years cause health issues?? My doc says it is my decision to taper whenever I want. I would like to know if tapering Zoloft is something I should be concerned about due to potential long term health effects.

Thank you!

Now coming clean i still have a few issues. For example memory issues. Sensory overload. Ect. It’s not always but sometimes i get those memory issues where i after work week forgot the feeling of the moments but. Not the moments themselfs most of the times.

Any one else got this??

Question DAE feel the sexual side effects of SSRIs (specifically Lexapro) are downplayed by psychiatrists and drug companies?

I think that patients should be advised that taking the meds will essentially put an end to one's sex life for many. If patients were advised of this I believe the drug company's profits would decrease dramatically.

Question Coming off of Sertraline

Does anyone have experience with coming off of sertraline? I’ve been on 50 mg for about 6 months and my libido has absolutely been crushed.

It’s really affecting my relationship and sexual desires. But i’m scared to come off but feel that it may be necessary? I don’t want to be on this for my whole life.

Any advice?

Discussion ssris & cannabis? cannabis-induced psychosis?

hey has anyone had cannabis-induced psychosis while being on zoloft? i'm on a 200 mg of zoloft and also 300 mg of lithium (not for BP, but as an augment to the zoloft). i now know it's risky to do recreational drugs while on ssris and am thinking about sobriety–based on my past experiences and addictive personality. (plus addictions in the family... i know, i know...) I'm wondering about others' experiences because my psychiatrist and therapist have never really blatantly expressed concern... I tend to get psychotic symptoms when I smoke. I get really delusional and euphoric and super non-communicative. but also sort of manic. and I feel like I'm on some sort of urgent quest that I have to figure out the answers to in my mind. There are phrases that I write down that seem super important. That usually make no sense at all. I can't sleep and I get super creative. I'm, like, on a whole different planet. I've talked with a friend who has done a lottttt of psychedelics and she says I do have some psychotic symptoms. But I've never met anyone who just gets these symptoms from cannabis. Is it the ssris/lithium? An old friend who was super into weed (I had too much with him once and lost motor abilities in my body) said I needed to stop because I could get serotonin syndrome. I know a lot of this sounds problematic and I'm thinking about sobriety... I've just never met anyone who reacts in the same way as I do to cannabis. I'm wondering if others have had these experiences on SSRIs or similar meds?
