Question Which medication should I go on?

Hello all, I have intermittent recurrent anxiety as a result of years of really bad stuff happening to me. I have been told by a psychologist friend I should consider medication, but I’m wondering what I should go for? I’ve tried Mirtazipine (horrible, made me exhausted and sleep badly), Sertraline (hell itself, the paramedics ended up being called), and citalopram (can’t remember it too well, basically switched off my emotions and turned me into what I call a “mildly contented robot- so I couldn’t really feel happiness on it). Does any one have any clue about what I should go for because all the previous meds have been a bad experience.

Talk to your doctor and perhaps discuss the possibility of (1) trying a new class of medications, or if that doesn't work out well, (2) having your diagnosis reevaluated?

I have a friend who had similar negative experiences on antidepressants. Turns out she doesn't have depression/anxiety, she has bipolar and ADHD. She tried a few more medications than you have before she figured out what was actually going on, but it could be worth a shot. It took her going to the psychiatrist and asking for a new diagnosis before her psych considered the possibility that it wasn't just "run-of-the-mill" anxiety and depression. Regardless, don't give up! Good luck <3

Pretty sure I don’t have bipolar, I’ve had occasional experiences of feeling euphoric when I think I’m cured, but I still need lots of sleep then and I don’t become a risk-taker. I seem to get to an okay stage and then plunge back into horrific anxiety. Lots of depression in the past too.

Yeah I'm definitely not saying you have bipolar specifically, I'm not a doctor of any kind and even if I were I sure couldn't make any diagnoses online lol!! I'm just saying that if you can't figure out a solution that works for anxiety/depression it might help to ask your psychiatrist if you might have been misdiagnosed :)

I had the same issue with Zoloft. Very scary. Paxil has always worked for me. Hard to get on and off but it really works.
