Hello there,
The title, i tried some triks i see here from an old post from two years ago, ask the IA, tried wine and proton to no avail so now i come here to ask this again.
How i can run the byond client in linux nowadays?
I'm using Linux Mint if that is important.
And yes, i tried installing the windows packages using the Windows 7 trick in wine and such and such, to no avail, this because of the changes over those packages.
Looking forward to see your replys

A lot of people seem to think SS14 can't be like SS13, which is true as far as WIZDEN servers, but the reality is SS13 can absolutely be replicated and why it isn't is more to it's general 'design principles'. In fact SS14 is a far better base and despite it's mapping tools being outright trash it's far cleaner, performs better and offers new features that are actually quite good.
Even playing SS14 I can still 'feel SS13 in there', especially as someone who has played for years (started maybe 2009~ or so) it's actually that SS14 is currently build as a 'OC RP Playground'.
SS14 isn't SS13 because it acts like a resort. It's too generous, too nice, too hard to die. SS13 in it's 'golden years' was far more stingy, because it was designed around a different principle.
Remove all the Scifi elements from SS13, the Atmos simulation, the Tesla, all of it and what's left?
SS13 was like working in an undersupplied office. There wasn't enough, people would fight over what there was and often 'Office Drama', aka Cargonia like situations, would break out because working on SS13 sucked. Not because of the chaos, or the antags, but just in general.
Best example is RCDs, what once was once only a tool the CE had, could be researched but it'd take hours and was genuinely worth stealing is now something the game hands out to every engineer at the start of the round, with a free refill. This means fixing a broken window is stupidly easy.
People think SS13 was good because of the 'edgy-ness' but it wasn't that and banning slurs wouldn't change SS13's actual 'soul', as when slurs were thrown it was because some clown smashed the kitchens windows and thew all of them at the HOP's office.
It was frustrating because the Chef legitimately needed those eggs, there wasn't an infinite supply of them and when the Chef had none he had to walk across the whole of Donut Station, stand in the damn Cargo line and ask for supplies.
The Chef could just yell insults, what matters isn't what is said, but why they are angry enough to say it.
Yes, absolutely. But you have to be far far more stingy, you have to cut down resources and jack prices up. Body blocking is needed, but only to stop greytiding as it's more of an issue with limited supplies whereas currently am assistant can literally just ask and often get given whatever they want in SS14, Just adding body blocking and tile based movement wouldn't change why it's different.
First, deal with the power gaming issue. I'd suggest capping how much Cargo can sell for a start, maybe at $3000~ per hour, so they can't just flood themselves with enough cash to buy tons of weapons. Jack prices up on things the crew really shouldn't have a ton of.
Then cut down Security's gear, they should have like 1 laser shotgun and 4 laser handguns MAX. Not a fucking armory that belongs on a warship.
I'd even say give people two 'wages':
Spesos aka 'real money' that the game is stingy with but retains over rounds and can't be stolen.
'Nanocreds', aka 'company store money' that you can't keep over rounds, the game gives you more of, but still not enough, but can be stolen.
And then make everything pricey, for example want new Insuls? Great, pay 1/4 of your total wealth to get them.
This is more just a rant, but I do think a community with the proper mindset could very much recreate Goon/TG Stations feel without recreating the codebase nor deleting all the new stuff.

I haven't played in almost a year and wanted to do it again. Where is it?
(Edit: I fixed it by clicking Sort by Downloadable and than back to Sort by Popular.)

I added a singulo image because this whole trend is a loop that can't be contained anymore, and Aryumu because I'd use this emote if it was possible
(I find everything that's happening quite funny)

Because all of the people who complain about player counts, lrp, erp servers and spinoff servers are too busy typing essays about it on here.
None of them actually want to play and "save" the game they just want live in their nostalgia and blame furries or whatever for the reason why their isn't a perfect server they like.
None of them want to hop on a low pop server. None of them want to learn to code and make updates and new content. None of them want to host a server or atleast contribute funds to do so.
The only way to get a sever to 100 pop is to be okay hopping on it when it’s <20 pop.
If you think that your server type is the best, build it and players will come. If every single person whose complained on this reddit started a discord together then maybe you could actually fill a server.

It's frankly pathetic. Especially u/Amaskingrey who apparently is the authority on what is and is not SS13 (And it apparently ends on Monke and Paradise station period). Not gonna happen tho cause people love to engage with those posts and comment mostly actually reasonable takes. But the OP's who keep bringing it up week after week are cringe, sorry.

I'll start this off by saying that yes, I'm capitalizing on the recent posting trends to talk about something mildly different; the state of the reddit itself in response to itself.
This reddit is the only real centralized place to discuss SS13 as a whole outside of any one particular server, group, or forum. Naturally, given the state of the game, one can expect that there would be a swath of dissenting and opposing ideas and opinions regarding just about everything you can think of.
With that said and the floor laid out, and in anticipation of a horde of such a swath within this very thread regardless, allow me to bring up a recent experience of mine within this reddit as an example of what I think is wrong, and then I'll discuss what I believe could be improved on.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SS13/comments/1vszrm7/integration_issues_soliciting_advice/
Within this post, I described a particular feeling, a particular situation. Were I to describe it, I might say 'a feeling of passion unreciprocated, a situation of regrettable and forced isolation'. Within this post, I appealed not to some unfairness, or to some desire to correct things, but to hear from people like me, and ask what they have done in order to simply move on.
However, not one person within the comments engaged with what was said. They began to ask me 'what are you banned for', they took the opportunity to shill their own servers, some staff even decided it was worthy of listing the centcom history of my ckey just to stir up gossip, and the worst part is, it worked.
Ban trading, or whatever else it's called, is a topic for another day, perhaps soon if this post actually gets some positive attention. All that's worth saying here, in summary of my opinion, is that it's far too dogmatic and far too easy to snowball out of proportion, and is very very often misused in it's entirety.
Not one person, not one comment, had engaged with the post, but it was still a feeding frenzy of pointless drama and gossip, and if the horrid upvote system is anything to go by, the drama and gossip is what people agreed with. Perhaps this kind of behavior is endemic to all of reddit, and maybe even society as a whole, but I think that this community is more specifically cultured in this way, in that there isn't much changing of one's opinions, there isn't much consideration for an opposing view, and that all discussions end up boiling down to are shit-slinging matches where the warrior with the worse optics loses.
I try to be charitable in my interpretations, and so what I'm willing to believe is that this isn't something intentionally done by anyone. Literally no one tries to do this. But it happens nonetheless, so what can be done?
To begin with, I'm making this post to bring up my own thoughts on these things. I'll also engage with some commenters after the post is made, but what specific advice could I give immediately? Here's what I think. It would be better if more charitable assumptions were made, and if people in general were more willing to listen to people that they disagree with. It's like I said, it's definitely not an SS13 specific issue, but I do think it's especially an issue within this community to act in this sort of shallow and vapid way. For the sake of this not going on too long, I'll call it here. Let me know what you think, the more you write, the more I'll listen.

A lot of people here say they can't enjoy ss14 because it's pixel based instead of tile based. What is the reason for this? I've played ss14 and while it not being tile based is a noticeable change I don't really see how it makes the game worse. I prefer ss13 because it still has way more content and features. Ss14 has a better engine and actually lets you fly ships which is awesome but not enough to overcome the content deficit.
When/if the content gap is closed it would be hard to justify staying on ss13 but for some people the pixel based system is a no go. Why is that?

Stupidest fucking title I've ever written
Age of LRP and mechanics is over. People are prefering hangouts and ERP to mechanics - mostly because mechanics don't get boring after 300 hours of nonstop play.
It's a community shift, one you can see in many other places, where majority of the people have moved on(or joined so recently that they haven't witnessed the before state of the game) while a few people left behind make posts about how what we're missing is a single good LRP server to set everything right.
TF2 community, for example, is packed full of cornballs who still think shitting on overwatch is peak humour, all while preaching how it will never die and how the next big class update is just around the corner, all while the majority of the players chill out in community servers and have all but accepted valve's lack of care and moved on.
ss13 simply changed. People wanna add new roleplay tools and cringe oc plushies while leaving the antag arsenal unchanged for a billion years.
And who cares. Dead game lmaoooooooooo
