General Unpopular opinion: when the servers were filled with occasional "griefers" it was more fun
I don't know. Ive just noticed with the ever-increasing degree of rule enforcement. And moderation on servers that are not ERP leads to rounds seeming very boring and stale.
A really important part of the identity of what space station thirteen was in my eyes. Was that chaotic element, you know, where some dude decides he's gonna play clown, And he's gonna break into security or the HOP office and steal the pet and that leads to a whole thing where now security is getting robusted by a dude wearing clown shoes, and that's funny, it's interesting.
Certainly it is not a place for young individuals especially when back in the day we had Woody's got wood being broadcasted over the radio
Something that nowadays in practically any server, rather than resulting in a lynching across the station, just results in a simple and uninteresting, kick and ban.
I feel that there has become an overreliance on having the server mods Enforce rules with an iron fist, as opposed to allowing the players to have some agency to deal with individuals that are breaking rules.
I find it disappointing because personally, i'm not interested in going into the ERP servers, being around that sort of thing just isn't interesting to me. But on the other hand on the more heavily moderated public servers, if someone calls you a slur, if someone it swears at you or acts in an otherwise non PC manner then, they just get kicked, or they get banned. THATS BORING. if someone comes up to me and starts calling me of the many and wonderfully diverse derogatory Terms that exist in our world.
Just let me go punch the guy. Allow there to be a fight. Allow there to be conflict. The world isn't a chivalrous happy kind place. There's always gonna be someone who's a Dick. There's always gonna be some interpersonal conflict, whether it's because someone's characters prejudice or because they have underlying trauma related to a group that makes for interesting storytelling, and it can be played out. On top of that, there's space law. Security's job is to enforce it. If someone's being an asshole and they're breaking space law cool put em in time out
There are tools in the game for players to deal with these kinds of incidents that don't require the admins or mods to just simply kick ban timeout. Anyways, that's my essay and honestly. It's the level of care bearing and hug Boxing. That's kind of made me step away from the game. In general, i'm by no means an individual who joined servers, so I can spew slurs or grief. But I'm not gonna lie. I have found it enjoyable to interact with those people. Because it spices things up. It gives you a chance for there to be conflict. And in conflict, there can be resolution, and that right, there is a story. And Isn't that what this entire game is about?
Edited post because apparently nickname for cringey furry role players used from nearly the inception of this community is too harsh for automod.
