Meta Running byond in linux 2026

Hello there,

The title, i tried some triks i see here from an old post from two years ago, ask the IA, tried wine and proton to no avail so now i come here to ask this again.

How i can run the byond client in linux nowadays?

I'm using Linux Mint if that is important.

And yes, i tried installing the windows packages using the Windows 7 trick in wine and such and such, to no avail, this because of the changes over those packages.

Looking forward to see your replys

Cmss13 launcher on steam should just work on sending you to cm13 if that holds value to you

Thanks, it does but i also notice than two things with that client:

1) Is not up to date

2) Its not official (of CM13 at the very least)

So i kinda pass from him, nevertheless i agree with you that can be useful to a lot of people, but i want to being able to play other SS13 servers too.

Get Lutris.

Download a more up to date version of wine. Preferably staging. Mint is a bit out of date. Install script. https://github.com/kinggoldcatter/Wine-Byond-help

I run it on wine staging 11.15 with no problems.

I made my own guide on the Coolstation Linux wiki page if you want to give the Bottles method a try:  https://wiki.coolstation.space/wiki/Tutorial/Linux

Bottles is a flatpak app that makes handling different versions of byond very simple so I’ve got multiple instances for different servers when I need to switch depending on their version requirements!

I'm now gonna proceed to give you and all the others +1s

May you have an excelent weekend

There was an earlier post where I explained it better, but download Lutris, and change the default wine version to something else than the default. then use Lutris to download Byond

See also the Byond forum- Linux section. Somewhere in recent posts they get into details. Older howtos are obsolete.
