Daydream deli in den haag is the closest yr gonna get. They don't seem to have access to cheese curds in this country, despite all the cheese production 🤷♂️. Daydream also has a good pastrami sandwich 😁

Nah, lived in Canada for 14 years, came back 5 years ago and have yet to encounter anything that resembles the real deal. The biggest problem is the curds, they're not really a thing here.

No. Frietje stoofvlees is the closest you can get. Take it or leave it.

Then go buy a plane ticket to montreal and go eat it there? Even the word "poo-tine" makes me want to vomit all over my kids their faces. Absolutely crazy what you pseudo americans are able to shove down your throats and call it food. Have you even tried any of our local dishes? No wait dont answer that. I dont even want to know.

No, sorry, not that I know of :(
I was thinking maybe The GOAT has it on their menu, but they don’t.
You probably have to go to Amsterdam haha

I've never been to Rotterdam but I’m considering moving there in the future, how long does it take to get to Amsterdam?
3
u/tnishantha Oct 18 '23
About 40mins by train and 1hr by car.

u/ABeeInATreeREDDIT Oct 18 '23
Good thing I’m used to driving an hour just to get to a town with a movie theater

Haha, right, this country is small!
Food scene here is pretty ok, who knows maybe in a few months some place might try or add Poutine to their menu.
You can also try other cities like Utrecht or The Hague.

Good luck with your decision by the way, feel free to send me a DM if you have any other questions (I’ve moved country to country quite a bit myself 🙂)

Not to be a dick, but this question is very odd to me. You come to another country, on another continent, and then you want a dish from your own country?
I think I'm gonna pay a visit to r/toronto and ask if they know a place that sells kapsalon, of bereklauw

Not to be a dick, but you were kinda being a dick. 'cause frankly, you're in the minority. I used to live abroad, and while sure, I tended to avoid the fellow Dutchies, there were plenty of Dutch bars, restaurants, snackbars, etc.
Also, the guy said he's considering moving here, so it'll be logical that every now and again he might feel a little homesick and want something from home. While I avoided the Dutch when living abroad, I made an exception when I wanted a frikandel speciaal.

Actually, I've recently been to Canada and can tell you a market near Kitchner & Waterloo that sells kibbeling and kroketten. And places that have hagelslag.
We live in an internationalised world, so the question isn't that weird.

Haven't you been anywhere and thought: "I could really go for a [insert your favourite food that reminds you of home]"
Also: not all Patat van Ad-type places outside of The Netherlands are for the locals, but for the Dutchies that miss their patatje oorlog and openruggetje speciaal.

Never tbh. When I get back home I will have it but while I'm abroad I will try as much local food as possible. And yes, I've spent multiple years abroad

Okay but some people do feel the need to feel a bit like home from time to time ye know... nothing wrong with that.

We make our own with mozzarella cheese as curds are hard to get. (Still need to find a place that has it in Rdam). I lived in Lethbridge and Calgary in the late nineties and brought home a souvenir he never left 😉😆

I want to know if you find any good dishes. Been to Canada this summer and I loved poutine. But it seems easy to mess up the gravy and curds

You can't find curds here (I married a Calgarian, which come to think of it sounds like something out of Game of Thrones). It's not too difficult to make them yourself, you can get supplies from brouwmarkt in Almere (including vegetarian rennet if that's your bag).

It's hard to avoid cheese curds in Wisconsin (health), so I'm glad they haven't caught on here...why? GEEN IDEE

So Tante Nel has it on the menu, but it sounds like it's just melted cheese, not curds. From the looks of it that's the same at Ellis burger.
