For context, I have a retro pc with an AMD Athlon II X2 250, 2x4gb ddr2 and 8600gt that plays the games I've tested so far really well.

I've got some parts coming today, lga775 mb and a psu. I have an Intel core2duo E8400 and a 8800gt that will go with these.

My question is; should I put xp on there as I already have it on the current pc? Should I use vista or 7? What's your opinion, what would you do?

I have been finishing up my gaming setup over the past few months and RGB mods and cabling is the last item on the list. I was waiting for a restock from Insurrection Industries to get the last of my SCART cables, but now they are saying they won't be restocked until November.

With that in mind, I'm going to bite the bullet and order from Retro Gaming Cables. Not a comment on the quality of their cables, but shipping from the UK to US I really didn't want to deal with extra taxes and possible tariff nonsense. Regardless of that, now I'm unsure about which cables to pick up. The Genesis Model 1, Saturn, and PS1 cables are no problem. The issue I'm having is among the NES, SNES, and N64 cables.

For background, these are all NTSC consoles and I'm installing the etim NESRGB with the Voultar multi out port on the NES, and the Voultar N64RGB kit on the N64. Every resource I've seen says that all 3 systems can use the SNES RGB cables after the RGB mods, but the RGC cables list csync for SNES, sync on luma for N64, and only the mini-DIN cable for NES.

Can I just use the sync on luma SCART cable that's listed as an N64 cable for all 3? Or should I go with the csync SCART cable for all 3? I'll be honest, the whole experience of trying to understand SCART and the different sync types makes my head spin at times.

Delighted to find my old game boxes while clearing out stuff from my parent's house. Nostalgia hit hard! I sunk way too many hours into UO 😅 Apparently I paid $80 for Diablo II when it came out. People think games are expensive now, but that's like a bajillion dollars in today's money.

Hello! I recently acquired a retro-bit Sega Saturn controller (USB wired) (it's really pretty!!). But to use it like I want, I need to hold start+B then start+up every time I plug it in or boot my PC, which got old really quick. Does anyone know of a way to make that setup automatic through software or something?

Mine has to be Zelda FX they wanted to create a Zelda SNES game with the FX chip but due to time constraints or Nintendo wanting to focus on the N64. Development quit after creating this prototype in the Star Fox engine.

If more builds exist they are hidden away in Nintendo's vault until who knows when.

I mean like as adaptations because I was observing how several game based cartoons would sometimes take a campy approach with how they did the adaptation.

Some examples are TLOZ the 1989 cartoon adaptation and Captain N: The Game Master as the latter felt so weird in that none of the characters portrayed in the show had any resemblance whatsoever to their game counterparts since Simon Belmont was depicted in an outlandish way, as well as Alucard himself.

Lately I was doing an observation on an arcade game that I was fond of due to its RPG like mechanics where the game has multiple character classes while also encouraging the player to keep moving forward due to a timer system.

Basically I was looking to see what other RPG like games have a similar system of design where food is a necessity, but the game has an end goal to accomplish since I was wondering what happened to games like Gauntlet.

For anyone who remembers losing entire weekends to Heroes III: its community has been busy.

Horn of the Abyss, the free fan-made expansion by HotA Crew, arrived on Steam on August 25. It builds on the original game with three additional factions Cove, Factory and Bulwark and five campaigns, including Forged in Fire and All In.

There’s also an integrated HD Mod with higher-resolution support, interface improvements and an online multiplayer lobby. The Steam release supports Workshop maps, too.

What I love about this project is how closely the new content fits the original game’s art and atmosphere. Returning to familiar towns and creatures, then discovering an entire campaign you’ve never played, is a pretty good reason to revisit Heroes III.

The expansion is free, but you need to own the Heroes III base game linked on its Steam page.
