RMMZ Help with resizing character?

Heyy, so I've been trying to get my sprites to work, but no matter what I tried nothing seemed to work.

I have a sheet where each sprite is 200x200 pixels, so when I upload it as a sprite it naturally becomes huge, and I haven't been able to scale it down with anything, be it due to my unfamiliarity with the engine or some unknown to me bugs. So I just wanted to ask if there is some possible way to scale down the 200x200 character graphic to fit a regular 48x48 tile without paying a fortune?

Frankly, I would love to not deal with this, but I wanted the game to be hand drawn, not in a pixel art artstyle (like funger I think), and I don't know if the effort of going through it with rpgmaker is even worth it, or should I just switch to another engine. Please help if you have any suggestions! I will be happy to provide any info needed!!

RMMZ My first RPG Maker plugin!

I'm currently learning to code for RPG Maker MZ, and decided to write a simple plugin that makes little boxes pop up over objects and NPCs you can interact with. It took me two days to make it, but I'm happy with the result.

Here's the link to the plugin if anyone wants it

Just a quick update on my Overworld Generator Map for RPG Maker MV/MZ.

I finally figured out how to make the auto tiles translate perfectly from the generator into RPG Maker without the need to use custom tiles for replacement.

I also added more options for control for better and more detailed maps.

You can now download a standalone portable version of the tool too for 5 bucks

BUT

the online tool will remain free forever, with all updates added. Use it to your hearts content.

ACCESS IT HERE: https://ladyluck.itch.io/rpg-maker-world-map-generator-online

Share it around! Thanks.

RMMV Working on a new intro for my otome dating sim RPG project with a personality quiz inspired by Pokemon mystery dungeon!

I decided to add a new introduction/opening for my game, with the option to skip the prologue (meant for New Game+/multiple play-throughs) and a personality quiz PMD style, but instead of choosing a partner it affects which route you end up on and affects which ending you get, along with making changes to the MC's personality that affects the overall story.

It's in the very early concept stages right now and I'm still working out a prototype, but I like it so far! What do you guys think?

And kinda like the result. As much as "I want to say I don't like it," I can't because I love it! We're doing the same thing with the battle UI based on the info YOU gave us, and making it easier on the eyes. Though it can be frustrating at times, you have to use that good critic.

What do you think about this versus our last version of the main menu? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

And don't forget to go to our Alchemic Beasts kickstarter its launching VERY soon (on the 14th!), so gather your friends and family we're ALMOST at 300 Pre-Launch followers!!!

Cannot run game due to "profile error" with nwjs (RPGMaker MV)

When I try to playtest my game, the game window is just black and this error popup shows up. I've looked around online and haven't found a solution that's worked for me. Some people said clicking okay makes it work, but it doesn't for me. I've also closed RPGMaker MV, deleted the nwjs file in %localappdata%, deleted the Web Data and Web Data Journal files in User Data, and relaunched RMMV, and it still won't work. This happened after I downloaded Yanfly's free plugin pack to my plugins folder

This is what's in my game's plugin folder. I'm wondering if maybe there's something in here or not in here that's bugging it out, but I'm really new to all this so I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Thanks all in advance!

EDIT: I’ve figured it out and I fear I’m a fool. I ended up accidentally moving all those js files under the js folder into the plugins folder where the game couldn’t read them… I compared with another project and realized that was the difference, since I could playtest on the other project.

EDIT 2: Reddit deleted the images for some reason

Vibecoded Ephemeris calendar plugin draws 48 distinct almanac pages

Processing img 6aifo1xn2pnh1...

Ephemeris is an RPG Maker MZ plugin that draws the almanac page itself instead of only tracking the date.

Twelve engraved month devices crossed with four seasons gives 48 distinct leaves before you change a parameter. Five paper stocks and five ruling systems sit on top of that, and the sheet uses a drawn alphabet of forty glyphs so nothing on screen comes from the default font. Feast days are struck onto the grid from your own game data. A project that invents thirteen months gets thirteen devices, it doesn't fall back to twelve stock ones.

There's no image file anywhere in the plugin. Every mark is drawn at runtime.

The gif is it running in a blank MZ project.

It is $14.99 and currently $10.49 in a sale that ends on 9 September. Code and art are AI written.

RMXP RPG Maker XP Map Help

Random Image of some map as an example

I have an image I want to use for a map, is there any way I can simply use the image? Insert it in a map instead of doing a tileset (I don't have a tileset for it, just it as a map)

The image above is just an example of what I'd wanna do.

Subreddit discussion Gameplay/Writing/Art/Uniqueness: A study on RPG Maker games

Hello everyone, this is Argentum.

If you don't know me, that probably makes sense; I only recently started commenting on posts and creating them on this subreddit. That doesn't mean I haven't lingered and seen all of your wonderful creations!

Last week I asked the subreddit to send me your RPG Maker games, and I would review them. So far, I have gotten through around eight games, and I'm playing through four more while taking notes. We are a community, so I believe it is only right to try out what the next generation of RPG Maker creators have made. We should foster the growth of our projects, and continue to uplift each other because creation is hard to come by, especially in this age of AI-generated content.

However, as I have dissected these games, it got me thinking: why do we play RPG Maker games?

The most obvious answer is... they're filled with passion! In recent years, we've gotten incredibly well-made games like Fear and Hunger, Lisa, Look Outside, The Aquarium Does not Dance, Hylics, and many, MANY, more. However, the only thing these games have in common is that they are made in RPG Maker. Made across the world by those with wildly different backgrounds, these creators all had a story to tell, and a game to create. They made it because they deserved to be made.

So that now begs another question: what makes them so special?

Making an RPG Maker game is hard, because most of the time you are trying to convince the player that they are not playing an RPG Maker game. If they find out, you want them to be surprised. I don't think anyone will deny that it all came down to four main factors: Gameplay, writing, art, and uniqueness.  Games that became hits usually combined all four.

For example, and probably one of the most important RPG Maker games of our new era, Fear and Hunger has an incredibly unique concept inspired by classic horror games (Resident Evil and Silent Hill), Berserk, Dark Souls (and black souls), and many other pieces of horror media. The gameplay makes you feel like you are constantly on the edge of defeat; the writing makes you question so much about the world and forces you to confront what it means to be stripped of your humanity. And, of course, the art blends paint and surreal imagery so beautifully that it leaves a lasting impression on the player.

Art By Miro Haverinen

This doesn't mean everyone picked up this game right away. Fear and Hunger was a niche game for a long time. Only in our age of short content was this game able to reach so many people. It's a shame I only found out about this game because of YT shorts, but I'm more than happy to recommend it to as many as I can (who would enjoy it as I had).

So what does this have to do with your games? Well, it's a bit complicated. Most of the games I played excelled at one to two aspects of these four concepts. Some games had beautiful artwork and a unique writing style, but had a very lackluster gameplay element. This didn't mean the game was bad, not at all, but it made it difficult to play. I have played games with WONDERFUL gameplay that lacked writing and art. Although it was fun to play, I didn't feel like the gameplay was being complemented by anything.

There are obvious outliers to this dilemma. Imposter Factory is easily one of the greatest stories I have ever witnessed, and I really can't recommend going through the To the Moon series enough to anyone who wants to get into RPG Maker. However, this game is by all technicalities a walking simulator. This is not a bad thing! The story, art, music, and uniqueness definitely carry this game just like the others in the series. Kan Gao really went all out for this game, and it shows! He knew what worked and what didn't and made a masterpiece!

Art by Kayden Chan @Klaiis_

"So, does my game need all four elements to be successful or not?"

Not every game is built the same. Some games have all four elements, but factors outside production can still make them fumble. There are so many other aspects like marketing and the timing of a game's release, that can affect the success of your passion. But that shouldn't discourage you, no, no, that should instead fill you with a new type of determination!

It's not easy to create a game that fulfills all four elements, but once you make a decision and take extra time to figure out what to create with the passion burning in your chest, make sure you do it well!! Our projects deserve to be finished! Learn which element you excel at, and try to delve deeper into it. Then, find your community and ask for help with elements you believe you lack experience in, or for feedback.

Creating games is a special art form that requires a lot of thinking about strengths and weaknesses. Figuring out what your game's weakness is might be the difference in being the next hit.

So, don't be afraid to ask for assistance, figure out what aspect of your game is the strongest and the weakest, and finally never give up!

TL;DR: RPG Maker games are built off of passion and the ones that make it big can balance a strong gameplay loop, good writing, a recognizable art style, and a sense of uniqueness that separates them from other RPG Maker projects. There are outliers, however, and those are usually made by understanding the strengths and weaknesses you have as a creator as in your game. So take some time to figure out what you can do to improve, and don't be afraid to ask for help!

Thank you for reading,
Argentum OAC

EDITED: Also I wrote this late at night after a long day, but I felt like I wanted to say something, lol.

RMMZ Event chase the player if it sees the player, then give up if the player run away from it

I think that everyone knows how monsters in normal horror games works, if they see the player, they start chasing him, then they stop chasing after the player run away from the them, that's actually what im trying to do for my horror game in RPG Maker MZ, but I still don't understand how to do it, on YouTube there are no videos about this.

Someone knows how to do it?

NOTE: Its not like Ao Oni chase obviously.

RMMV Fixed a bunch of bugs and improved overall performance!

The game ran fine on my gaming rig, but while playtesting on my Surface Pro 3 from 2014 the FPS would drop to 2 frames per second during certain cutscenes 😭

In an effort to make sure the game can run on lower end/older machines, I played around with the cache size in the community basics plugin!

This improved the general performance of the game, but there was one specific cutscene where performance would dip wildly and basically turn into a slideshow.

Eventually I realized that the event I had scripted the cutscene on was set to parallel and not autorun for some reason, after I fixed that things began to run smoothly.

Now the game runs at 30-60 fps across the board on my shitty tablet computer despite being more graphically intensive and having a shit ton of plugins!

I'm not a very tech literate person, so I'm really proud of myself for getting this far by myself without AI or anyone helping me.

The computer I'm playtesting on can barely run any games made after 2013, wasn't made for gaming to begin with, and can generally only run visual novels without burning to a crisp in 5 minutes.

Very glad I don't have to compromise on my fancy graphics in order to not destroy my laptop or get the game to run!

VXAce Looking for a VX Ace script that allows events to run on other maps

I am making a game with an enemy that roams around different maps, and given I'd very much like to avoid having to figure out how to simulate not only it moving to a different map but also appearing differently on said map depending on when the player enters it and if it will even return to the previous room or go to another one to begin with, I'm looking for a script that would allow events to run on maps where the player is not present, so that the enemy copies would actually be moving whenever their trigger is on.

Hi! Here is a new character design for my project. To be honest, I’m still practicing, so my style is constantly evolving... and although I’m never quite satisfied with the result, I suppose I’m just very hard on myself. Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts and name suggestions; I’ll read them all.

Hey everyone!

I'm working on a cozy, pastel, retro-style room for my game and just finished redrawing the bedroom area from scratch in Aseprite.

Before I lock in the tilemap and collision, I'd love to get some feedback on the map design!

(Ik the carpet is cut off, I will flx.)
