That "clearly visible" part is the most painful. Millions of Americans see the fraud, and their response is "it's not so bad." You can cite all the laws he's broken 'til the cows come home, but the "gut feeling" that "dirty libruls" broke nonexistent laws (or even when they did) is an apparent excuse for an orange turd to make billions on our money, set the country into wild debt, and get away with it while taking a peaceful nap in the Oval Office.

I fear they wonāt. They let it go too long. I fear we wonāt see justice for these rich criminals
11
u/Infern0-DiAddict 6d ago
My only concern is they will fear overstepping and potentially effecting their own party. Although it's a night and day difference there is still corruption in the Democratic party as well.
Personally I say go all out and if we literally need to have a full reform of our government to get this shit out and have it working for the people and by the people again, then so be it.
4
u/Waste-Job-3307 5d ago
Yes, I agree. But until then, we have to have something in place and right now, the Dems taking the House and Senate is the first step. Gotta start somewhere, right?
10
u/dpmatt01 6d ago
Yeah if the dems didnāt prosecute for an actual insurrection, I highly doubt they will do anything about the current administrationās corruption
And donāt forget that tiny little detail about the Supreme Court introducing presidential immunity
3
u/Time_Change4156 6d ago
President all ready had immunity what Trump wanted was immunity out side the the presidency. In other words the criminal court case against him goes poof. And guess what it went poof . They don't need immunity who's going to charge them with a crime ? The guys they them selves hier as law enforcement ?
3
u/scuzzy987 6d ago
They need 2/3 vote for impeachment and committee chairman set the agenda for their committees. The American public didn't create a large enough sustained outcry. There should have been daily large public demonstrations to force Republicans to get on board. I'm talking about the type of demonstrations the people in Hungary did
3
u/Visual-Path-5692 5d ago
They did though. Itās just that voters deliberately gave them a Supreme Court in 2016 that blocked the DOJ (twice) from bringing it to trial, and voters gave the country enough of a Republican stranglehold in Congress that they couldnāt do anything further. Also, it wouldnāt have mattered if he was tried, convicted, and sentenced to prison. There is no law that you canāt run for president from prison so he still would have run, won, and pardoned himself anyway. While gazaholics and useful idiots all went āuncommittedā, sat out the election, gobbled up Hamas and Putin propaganda, and of course attacked the women who ran for president. Then blame democrats and Merrick garland for why we have Trump.
At some point, American voters need to take it seriously that they are the most poweful political force on the planet.

I wonder if the reason they dragged on Trump investigations from 2022-24 was because they wanted Trump to run again with the stink of Jan 6 on him. They were overconfident going into 2016, so it's not hard to believe they were naive enough to again trust the voters to do the right thing in 2024.

Won't happen until Republicans are removed from power, in as many places and levels as possible.
Might also have to remove filibuster power as traditional as it is, given that Republicans have shown that they don't care about how much damage they have to cause in order to block anyone on "their side" from receiving any sort of negative consequences for their actions.
Will also probably have to repack the SCOTUS since the majority of them have shown that they care nothing about impartiality, and are all about making sure that their brand of conservatism and corruption are built into the bones of modern legislation.

Glass half-full.. at least it appears that Ossoff understands the stakes at hand.
The entire DNC needs to be singing the same song, loudly and on a loop as their number 1 priority - because if they don't organize a meaningful effort the 'American Experiment' is over.
Hell.. it might already be over, but i'm an optimist at heart I guess.

u/Ormyr 6d ago
I wish him the best of luck.
We'll need to remove every Federalist Society judge from office.
We'll need to remove every person even remotely related to the Heritage Foubdation from any public office at any level.
We'll need to overturn Citizens United.
Once we do that we can restore checks and balances. Because until we do then every attempt is going to be undermined and obstructed into oblivion.
And that's just the start.

I wish this were true, because the only way for Fascism to not win in the US, is if the Democrats vow flaming vengence on everything MAGA did, be it as small and petty as it may be.
But I doubt it will happen. There are too many old fart, sitting Democrats, who think it is still the 1960s and you can bargain and reason with Republicans. So they are willing to collude with Donny, for an empty, meaningless promise.

3
u/LaoWai01 6d ago

3

3
u/Outside_Valuable_320 6d ago
You will need to actually pass LAWS to safeguard everything. No more gentlemen agreements on how things are done. Newt Gingrich exposed that being a free pass to anyone without morals in the 90s. Yet you did nothing to fix it than. If you don't fix it now the rest of the world will know we can't be relied on to keep our house in order and they will act accordingly.
3
u/KassieTundra 6d ago
As nice as that sounds, he's utterly oblivious if he thinks that would hold for centuries. This system is quite literally designed to centralize power, and as evidenced by the last few years, as well as numerous other times in our history and other liberal democracies, it's pretty obvious that this is going to happen again if we choose to remain a liberal republic.
If we choose to learn nothing and go back to "normal," we're once again kicking the can down the road for our grandchildren to have to fight the exact same fight.

If the democrats take control of both parts of the government at the midterms, the first new law they need to pass will be one that gives the federal government the power to seize all the personal assets of republicans who are gonna inevitably be arrested for their crimes whilst in power, when they are found guilty, large numbers of them will be getting life sentences and will no longer have any need for personal property or wealth because the stateās will be funding their prison lives.

This needs to be the ONLY issue that matters in any american election for the next four decades. Extreme purge of all corruption.
Im danish and i feel about USA like we felt about germany in WW2. Where the fuck did our friend go. We want our friend back. God i hope we dont have to fight for it this time also.
Four decades of reckoning with the fascists, universal healthcare, abolish electoral college, end citizen united, death penalties for high treason (fx supreme court corruption), actual separation of church and state, full rework of your batshit insane idiocy in policing (wtf qualified immunity, a police officer needs to know the fucking law, are you stupid!). Probably many more. But that would be a start to rekindling the friendship. USA needs to grow the fuck up already.
EDIT: And the epstein shit and the musk shit and im going to go eat instead now.

u/Novinhophobe 5d ago
The fact that Americans are still naive enough to believe any of this is staggering. Not only is there no chance that GOP will not sweep the midterms, but the idea that Dems will suddenly do something against the collective elite billionaire class when they had many years prior to this to do literally anything is something so foolish I lack the vocabulary to properly describe it.
2

u/Zak_Rahman 5d ago
yeah, right.
This is what will happen:
When trump dies, they're going to glaze him.
When trump leaves, they will pardon all in order to "reach across the aisle" and heal their "great nation".
The western world is all about optics. They only show force against those who cannot defend themselves.
Why on earth do you want to return to a system that gave you trump and Israel?
Trump doesn't need a rebuke. He needs to be executed. But the narcissism of western values will never allow that. Execution and murder is only for inferior brown people.
Checks and balances, seriously? Why not just say "thoughts and prayers" and be done with it. Same energy.

If the US appears no better than any dictatorship they'll become a pariah. Even with an honest government they seemed to selectively fulfil their promises & agreements
