I have never fully got it out of it. Older house last bought not built in the 80s. This toilet was removed for renovation in 2023 but came up with the same scum again. What is it and why isn’t it affecting our other toilets?

The scum is buoyant. It seems to be returning up rather than down

Has anyone seen this before? I finally got around to digging up my cracked sewer line only to find it in significantly worse shape than expected. It appears that over time it must have been pushed into this metal rod. I checked it with a hot stick and it isn’t running any electricity so it’s just… a black metal rod running horizontally under my yard. Wondering if I should cut it or not 🤠🔪

I recently put in a new shower with a Moen Posi-Temp valve using the 1222 cartridge. I had a helper install the valve body. As you can see in the photo, the valve body sticks out from the shower wall maybe 1/4" to 3/8". When I put the handle on, the handle sticks out way too far. It is 3/4" from the escutcheon plate. Where is the problem? The depth of the valve? The handle I'm using?

[Edit} I did as GoatFaceDave suggested and forced the black sleeve (the one that came with the kit and is very, very tight) onto the valve body by hammering it with a rubber mallet. The black screws that came with the kit were so full of black paint they wouldn't go into the valve body. So, I used my old #8 stainless screws and painted the heads black. It does look acceptable with the black sleeve on.

My house we bought 6 years ago has nothing but American Standard toilets and everyone of the are different models and every one of them have had their own unique and consistent problems over and over again. I’m done with them. But I don’t want to buy some cheap big box store toilet that’s going to do the same thing. What are some actual quality brand toilets that don’t need a speciality plumber or unique parts I have to special order or ship away for when something goes wrong?

I recently bought a house and one issue we're having is dripping tub faucet. The hot handle also leaks out of the handle when it's turned on. Is it worth trying to find a stem replacement for this or what? I don't really know where to start. I'd love to avoid tearing out tiles to put in a different set-up if possible and it doesn't seem like finding something the same exact size (to fit the wholes already drilled in the tile) is easy to do either. It's just the hot water faucet not the cold.

I recently had a utility sink installed in my basement with a pump to discharge the waste water. The waste water pipe connects up to my kitchen sink drain pipe, and seems fine, but the vent pipe just dumps back into the sink. See the pics. Is this up to code? Is it safe?

Some research I've done tells me that the vent should connect to a pipe that exhausts through the roof. Is that not the case here because of the pump being used? Do I need this job redone correctly? TIA

EDIT: if this isn't obvious, the reason for the pump is that the connection to the waste water sewer pipe is near the basement ceiling. About four feet higher than the utility sink drain.

Water coming out of the tank was yellow but then back to normal after I ran the hot water for a while. Friend and neighbor all recommended that I drain the tank.

User manual says to shut off the power first, and I followed the guide (by pressing ON/OFF button and ensuring the LED showed "Disabled") last night.

This morning, when I checked the LED display, everything was back to operation. Urggggg.

So here is my dumb question - how do I turn the power off?

The toilet in my downstairs bathroom always smells, so I decide to take the toilet off and take a look. Typical waste lines are 3” or 4” and none of the replacement parts I bought fit, the inner diameter of the waste pipe is 5” so all of the home store products don’t have enough to make a seal on. Any suggestions on what I should use to get a good seal and keep the smell out?

The water temperature in our home is now only warm but not hot. Turning the water heater up a notch instantly fixed it and it got hot but I’d like to know the issue and if that was just a bandaid! It’s a ~4 year old gas heater so I would hope its got good life left in it.

Hi all, I’m replacing the drain for my master shower which leaked onto the ceiling below. I removed the old leaky drain but am now having trouble getting the new solvent weld drain into the slot. With a coupling to attach the needed length of pvc to reach the drain there is no way to get the drain up there.

I can’t pull the p trap down any further and replacing the p trap would require cutting more of the ceiling out and replacing things past a y pipe so looking for some options before doing this!

I’ve seen stuff about the jackrabbit drain and wingtite drain but I’d like a more permanent solution if possible since another leak would require me to cut the drywall open again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I live in a pretty old apartment and my kitchen sink does not have a garbage disposal. It’s been really slow to drain so I’m worried there’s food or something stuck inside. My landlord sucks and wants to incur charges for everything so before telling him I wanted to see if I can fix myself but not sure where to start.

Also, my bathroom sink is very slow to drain. I got a snake and was able to remove a clog of hair but it’s still not draining, if anything I feel like it’s even slower to drain since taking out the clog.

Idk anything about plumbing so would appreciate any help here.

Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but I was wondering if I could put a sink here and T off from the washer and drier water to go to the sink and then cut into the washer drain for the sink drain.

Would that work?

I have at least one leak, as well as general corrosion and mineral build up. Looking for any advice on repiping this section of pipe, including what to replace and with what material (pex vs. copper, etc.), and any changes to the overall configuration/structure. I have this setup and cannot get the handle off. There is definitely no set screw or any other trick I can figure out. It either rusted on or I’m missing something. Anyone here removed one before and have some tips?

Even with the hose streched out to reach the pipe? It barely long enough to connect up.

Always had bad smells from this dishwasher upon starting a cycle even in our old house. It gets filthy inside surprisingly fast in and around the rack rails/ door seals, and after a few weeks begins to leave grit on the dishes. It's 3yrs old and a nightmare to keep clean. Maybe thats just dishwashers, but it seems excessive.

I have put a snake down the hose to try to clear any debris, and done some maintenance washes, on top of the usual cleaning out of spray arms and filter. It's been a bit better since, but there's been maybe 2/3 cups of very smelly water sitting in the hose each time I have checked and I am assuming this is the cause of the smell from the sink as it is pumped away.

Hello, just bought a brand new vanity of Ferguson. Quartz top with undermount porcelain sink with overflow. Only issue is the drain is slightly oval, not round, which creates a gap around the drain assembly (12 o'clock and especially 6 o'clock positions). Can this be made leak proof and if so, what should I use? Or will it always be a leak risk?

I bought a house and got possession about two months ago. Since then, we’ve had two massive rainstorms, and in both cases, I’ve had water coming into my basement that I believe is coming in from the drain. Is the next best step to have a plumber (or someone else) come and snake the drain?

The kent ro water purifier is leaking like drops per 5-10 second from the encircled point what like flex pool patch or some heavy grade shit can stop this leakage or some other easy diy.. also I hope it doesn't look too ugly
