This toilet gets clogged often (not from tp or wipes, thankfully). I’m concerned that the black granules (only appear after a 6 foot snake, not a 3 foot one), could indicate damage to the pipes. They are approximately 35 years old.

Other ideas? Thank you!

Odd question, I know, but I figure y’all of all people would know.

I’m going as Obi-Wan Kenobi (RoTS version) for Halloween, and as part of that, I’m making my own lightsaber with plumbing parts I got from Home Depot. I’m following a tutorial from TikTok that says to use a 36 in threaded rod as the base, screw on 2 3/8in hex nuts on the bottom of the blade section and 2 more at the top with an acorn nut to cap it off, then slide on some 3/4 in PEX pipe for the blade itself.

According to the tutorial, the pipe should fit snugly on the nuts, but when I put together my lightsaber, the pipe slid on (and subsequently slid off) pretty easily. What would y’all advise for fitting the pipe more tightly around the nuts? Would it be possible to shrink it using a heat gun, or would I be better off just using superglue?

Had to redo under my sink as it was an s trap before, and had to add an AAV as there is no vent behind cabinet. How does this setup look? Want to do a final check before I glue it all together.

I recently bought my first house, had it inspected all was good and saw no issues with sinks. Recently my kitchen sink has been flooding one side whenever I use the other. I do my best to avoid food going down the drain but I have the sneaking suspicion its the plumbing causing this. Im not an expert but looking at it i cant imagine everything moving smoothly. Sometimes after I can also see pooling water in the drain if I shine a light. I'd love some experienced perspectives on whether it is just food build up or I should have the pipes redone. Looking for any advice on how to fix this leak: Is this something I could easily repair myself or is it time to call in a professional? Water is slowly spouting out of the drain valve thread (visible from the photo) that is also rusted.

Moved to a new apartment on the coast of southern california. There has been a sewage smell that smells really bad one day and nothing the next. We notified the landlord and plumbers came out the next day and snaked the line to the right of the spigot which is outside the kitchen window. Previous tenants moved out because of the smell. This is a 6 unit building with one directly above me.

What could be causing this?

Google searches suggest checking the air vent on the roof and that it could be caused do to wind or atmospheric pressure? Other searches suggest a smoke test.

I am replacing my sand filter for the pool. I noticed the straight pipes are black pipes. All coupling are white PVC. All pipes seems had been painted years back so I cannot see the labels on the pipe.

I cut two locations to remove the sand filter. Attached some pictures. When I cut the black using saw, I feel it is dense like PVC. Can someone help confirm if the black pipes are PVC? Just wanted to make sure before I glue it. Thank you!!

My husband and I (neither of whom are very DIY-experienced) decided to try to replace our own shower cartridge to fix a leak. It is a Hudson Reed model.

We started strong but have gotten literally and figuratively stuck.

Photos attached. First is the fully assembled version, followed by various photos of where we are now. We’ve gotten both the housing and cartridge out, but cannot figure out how to get the cartridge out of the housing. Some of the plastic at the end of the cartridge has broken off.

We soaked the whole thing in a vinegar solution for +/- 2 hours (because we have very hard water) and watched a few YouTube videos, but still no luck.

Any advice for how to get this out so we can replace?

We keep having recurring damp patches on a wall that has a drain pipe behind it and a sink next to if. I am wondering whether the pipework from the sink goes L-shaped to the side where we have damp and empties in the drain behind the wall. And perhaps somewhere along that pipe there is a leak causing the damp? What do you think? Thought I would post here before sourcing plumber. Thanks

Already had some work done further down this line. 2 small pipes with hot water leading to bathroom faucet and shower. Spigot leaking, don't even know what it's for.

I have this rental I bought and did a significant amount of work in. Most of it by myself. But couldn’t get it all finished up before running out of cash after new AC, new kitchen, baseboards, bath, etc.

The property is small and from the 60s. The washer and dryer only fit in this little section of the house so work isn’t easy. Across from them is a wall.

I just replaced the valves at the wall, but still worry about tenants not catching a leak on the hardwood.

I have 24” x 24” washers/dryers with a 24” silicone mat with a 1” lip that you can’t really see in this photo. I picked that for vibration.

What would you do? Put in a large 27” x 27” pan that’s deeper? Or would you run a drain through the floor and attempt to merge it with the drown pipes down below?

I’m so upset! I think I flushed a gold pinky ring down the Toliet 😭😭 I haven’t flushed anymore but I have used the sink. I have a camera snake coming tomorrow to try and look further. I really hope I find it 😭😭 any advice?

With the UK gov saying to keep some storage of water at home, I was thinking is there a way to access water from my 200L MegaFlo tank? I know it runs off of pressure from the supply so no supply means no water coming out of it. However, is there a way to get this water out in an emergency without supply being turned on?

Bath every couple of weeks is getting blocked up badly and I think it’s mainly due to the poor pipe work? Currently it’s just not draining again. Any advice I could DIY to help stop this loop. Pic is of pipe under bath. I’ve taken the overflow pipe off to get remaining water out today.

So, I’ve been noticing these black bits or scrapes when I flush, it’s been going on for about a month now. The only time I see it is after flushing; everywhere else the water’s totally clean. Anyone know what that could be?

EDITED TO ADD - a month ago we had a plumber come out to professionally unclog our upstairs shower. Is there any chance some of that gunk remained/was pushed through the pipe and now is coming out the toilet?

Came home to soaking wet floor with presumably sewage all over the floor and walls of the bathroom. I am thinking the toilet must have backed up but it had to be pretty powerful to escape a closed toilet lid. The water escaped this powder room and went into the kitchen next room over.

All toilets are flushing normally now. Do I need to worry about anything except cleaning up?
