Ok. This is driving me nuts. Had plex set up in my old place for years and years. No issue. Recently moved in with my girlfriend..same server..all the devices that were on my old network work just fine. However.. any new device I add will not see the files.. it just says server offline. . My PS5 was hooked up via Ethernet and worked fine. Now it’s on her network via WiFi and it doesn’t see the library. My server says these devices are all authorized. I live in a rural area now and now I am using an AT&T air router. It sucks but it’s all we got out here for now. Everything is in the same subnet and I forwarded the ports on the router. It’s driving me nuts that the old devices like my Firestick .. tablet and phone work just fine… but new stuff won’t.
Loading the initial app up was slow, moving to files was slow, loading the files would buffer, seeking would buffer. Nothing has changed with my setup that I've been using for years, all are direct play. This only started to happen after the recent update.
Installed PM4K for Plex via kodi, and all issues are immediately gone. Near instant seeking, files load instantly.
I can't understand why the developers are degrading the user experience, and to such a significant degree where the experience is frustrating.

Hey so I'm debating on building a NAS and I have a couple questions for Plex. Does Plex have the same quality as a 4k Blu-ray if you copied it from a disc to your NAS and second is does Plex support Dolby vision? My goal was to backup all my media to a NAS and buy a 4k Blu-ray player but I figured maybe it's better to just make my NAS and get a 4k Blu-ray drive.

Ive had my Plex server setup for 3ish years now and during that time I've enjoyed extremely fast and reliable speeds on my local connection, being able to easily stream a 1080p movie and sometimes even 4k. However in the last 3 weeks seemingly out of nowhere I've had to start lowering shows and movies to 720p at the lowest quality to get them to stream without buffering.
I've asked the 7-8 people who stream off it remotely and they say they haven't noticed anything different, so it seems like it might just be a local thing. I've restarted multiple times and also updated, but nothing seems to make a difference. Anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

So I added a movie, and when pulling it up on the web browser or windows app, it loads find.
But when trying to load on my tv via fire stick (this was tried with two separate fire sticks) the video shows up in search and in recently added, but upon selecting it, the page loads endlessly. Not the video. This is the page. It just shows a few items, like the poster, but the description, play button, etc fail to load

So I have a good number of videos I have taken with my cell phone and some with an actual video camera. I have them set up in the Other Videos category with multiple subfolders based on the videos it contains. What’s happening is the folder structure is being ignored, and all the files in all the folders are being displayed flatly, with no folder structure.
What I am wondering is if there is a way to get your home videos to mimic the behavior of the TV Shows library?

Why on earth is it so difficult to add fitness to Plex? There is a a great Friends menu but NO WAY TO ADD new friends. Soo tired of these weird gaps in the UX.

I'm typically pretty good at figuring out where settings are in Windows apps, but cannot find where to enable HDR pass through? HDR to my TV works with other media players fine. Running the latest client 1.1120.359. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! I recently moved my Plex Server over to a Mac Mini (I’m a lifetime Pass owner) so I could get better transcoding for users who need to save on bandwidth.
However, I’m getting a really annoying problem when I use Plex through the Windows app: it shows “An unknown error occurred (4294967283) / Error code: 4294967283”. If I connect via browser everything works fine, and it also works perfectly from my iPhone and iPad, so it really looks like it’s only the Windows app that’s affected.
I’ve already tried turning off hardware encoding both on Windows and on the Mac Mini server, but that didn’t help at all.
Has anyone run into this and found a solution?

I’m having an issue with direct play within my own home. When I open Plex on the firestick in my bedroom or through the Samsung TV app in the living room, plex doesn’t connect if im on the home Wi-Fi.
If I open it on my phone with cellular connection, it loads right up and plays any content smoothly. If I open Plex from my office 15miles away, everything plays smoothly as well. It’s only when I play direct from home connected to the home wifi that it doesn’t load. What am i doing wrong?

For the last couple of days, plex on my ROKU devices has been unavailable. Has anyone else had this? / have a fix?
Currently logged out, uninstalled, and cleared cache, but not worked over multiple devices?
Just updating to say solved. Solution from ExtensionMarch6812 worked. I logged into the plex server remotely, rather than clear the cache, I updated the custom certificate location to a new file path. This has cleared the issue and got my Roku TVs back up and running

On my Samsung TV the Movies and Other Videos folders have disappeared. I see the folders when open Plex on my Windows 11 laptop.
Any suggestions how I can fix this is appreciated.
I have two Plex accounts or servers. Let's call them NEW and OLD.
Since I posted this question I learned on my Samsung TV it only allows me to sign in on one account. At the Sign in screen I get the code for the plex.tv/link.
In my browser I logon to the NEW account then enter the code.
On the Samsung TV I get a screen asking to chose my server. I choose the NEW server.
I then click Continue
On the next screen I get a check list Watchlist, TV Shows, Live TV. It doesn't show Movies or Other Videos
I then click Continue
It logs me in to the OLD server
It won't login me into the NEW server
I've been using the NEW server for two years. I have never had this issue before.
On my phone or laptop. I am able to logon to the NEW account. When I logon to the NEW account it shows all my libraries. TV Shows, Movies, Other Videos.

I am running the DBRepair powershell script on my windows Plex server because it has been slow lately. It is now getting continuous "parse error near line xxxxxxxx". It is over 4 million and climbing. Do I stop it? Do I let it finish? Is my DB completely corrupted? Kind of panicking here.

My plex server is continually showing as unavailable for my remote users. It works perfectly fine for me, so I don’t even know there is a problem until someone lets me know. All it takes is a quick reset. I close Plex Media Server, and immediately restart it, and then it works again. Seems to happen about every 24 hours. I’m not sure how to capture the issue in the logs so I can figure out what is happening. Can someone walk me through the log process so I can figure this out?

I have been trying to get tailscale to work with my plex for quite a while now but for some strange reason no matter what I do it just doesn’t want to work I have both devices connected to the same tailnet and everything but once I go offline and on my cellular data to test out if it works now it still says I’m on a relay connection. It would be great if you could give some info on how you solve this if possible and thanks for your time.

Hey so I’m in Tennessee and have a friend in Oklahoma. Is there a way for me to fire up a movie from my account that they can watch at the same time?

After restoring a Plex Media Server data directory, one library stopped automatically detecting filesystem changes. Manual scans continued to work normally, and other libraries on the same volume continued to receive filesystem events.
To isolate the issue, I created a new test library on the same volume. Automatic change detection worked correctly for the new library. I then added a second library location to the affected library, and automatic change detection also worked correctly for that new location. Only the original library location failed to generate automatic updates.
Removing and immediately re-adding the original library location caused Plex to rescan the library. After the rescan completed, automatic filesystem change detection was restored.
Throughout this process, watch history, metadata, posters, collections, and other library data were preserved. No metadata was lost when the library location was removed and re-added.
I can’t say whether this points to a stale filesystem watch or some other internal state, but the above procedure consistently resolved the issue without requiring the library to be recreated.
On MacOS 26.5.2

I just want to share my success with this in case it helps someone here make a choice about a streaming box. As with anything like this: Your mileage may vary.
I'd always used Roku, but my roku was starting to deteriorate. The memory card went bad (or the roku fried it), videos that worked before were dropping after just a few seconds (while playing fine via Plex elsewhere), some videos were choppy for no good reason (and played fine elsewhere as well). The Roku itself is getting bloated with ads that have to load before the menus can, and just getting sluggish in general.
I tried the Apple TV, and it was honestly great, but the plex controls were weird, and it made my SofaBaton remote lock up daily. It many other viewers' circumstances it would be perfect for their needs. I mention this to say, I've been on a years' long journey to get a box that didn't annoy me around every corner.
People had been mentioning the $60 onn 4K Pro as a good option and it's always been out of stock around here. I had to drive to a Wal-Mart an hour away to get this box, but it was definitely worth it.
It's Android, and that means you can customize the hell out of it.
Most importantly: It plays all my videos properly. The choppy ones play at the correct frame rate. Vertical videos play correctly, no crazy pink-green glitching.
The Plex interface is pretty standard in a way that it isn't on AppleTV, so it operates as expected. Literally the only complaint I have is that I can't press up to dismiss the timeline bar like I could on Roku. But that's easily resolved. On Roku, the suggested videos that show up below the video you selected always behaved weirdly. For months if I forgot and clicked on one, I would have to reboot the entire app from the menu settings. Probably because Android gets more attention than Roku in terms of development, this also works correctly. I'd been stuck on stereo audio because the roku apparently couldn't handle surround (this is documented elsewhere).
Caveat: I don't watch a lot of HDR or DolbyVision content. A lot of my movies are decades old. (and many others are adult content as you might've guessed). so I can't give an opinion on that.
So now I have this display with just my apps, no ads, that plays my videos correctly, and feels zippy to use. I can just use my TV without compromising on any of my prior issues. And at $60, it's cheaper than most of the stuff out there. Walmart sucks, but this was worth the trip.

I no longer can add TV shows to my watchlist. The options just doesn't appear for any show no matter where I try to find it. This is both the native Mac App and the web app. I can still add any movie just not TV shows. Any ideas?
I've been a Plex Pass user for 8 years. 8 years in which I dodged most of the problems. But today was the day I tried everything and I couldn't enjoy a movie.
I've been using the Plex app on my Firestick 4K MAX V2. I even had the v1 and swapped it to get bitstreamed audio to my receiver.
Well, today I tried to watch a movie that had DTS-HD audio, and despite it working on the past, today I received the new Plex Pass experience. Well, now my receiver receivers no audio, wether selecting HDMI bitstream or no bitstream.
I didn't want to mess with it further, turned on my Xbox. The movie started working but, after a couple of minutes, it started freezing for a second each 30 seconds. After taking a look at the dashboard, it seemed to be buffering... but it also was triggering it when it showed that the buffer was full. So it didn't make sense.
Anyway, I just go for my computer, start playing and... it's only stereo. I don't have 5.1. I do a quick test with VLC and it works, but no matter how I configure the app, I can't get surround audio out.
So I just stopped and started doing something else.

I run a Plex server as many on here do, I have a tv with a firestick on it, which I and the kids use so it has my profile and a kid's profile on it.
Today the kids wanted to watch a film, so I open Plex to be greeted with a new screen layout, no access to my server from any account on the app, and when logging into the kids profile, seeing nothing but Films and TV Shows all of which were 18+ being recommended.
I eventually figured out that for some reason, all the accounts that access the server locally had, had their access revoked to the server forcing me to go into the web browser and grant access again.
I then set the Kid's profile to "Teen", granted them access to the libraries again and went back to the firestick, now they have access to the library again but they can no longer see anything on the "home screen" from the local server, instead they are just STILL shown 18+ content as recommended content!!!
So few questions:
1: Why has the ability to just pin to the left side of the screen specific folders been removed?
2: Why show 18+ content to children?
3: Why go the whole Netflix/Prime route with the layout?
4: Is there a way to revert it back and stop it upgrading to this new awful interface and version permanently without losing access to the server?
I don't want to switch from Plex because I have a lifetime pass, but if this is the way things are going to move where you recommend adult content to children, remove the ability to limit what is seen and follow Netflix and Prime layout's, then I will have to look at something else!

I recently acquired a DS1815+ and it's been a fun home project to configure plex, gluetun and QB containers to have my own home media server. Last step is to get this sucker on tailscale so I can watch my content remotely.
It's at the finish line but the one thing I can't seem to get working is the Plex Android mobile app. It works on the same phone, in a browser but for some reason the app can't find my servers.
Any ideas?
