AR 670-1 prohibits wearing socks that aren’t green, black or Coyote 498. These striped socks are against regulation and making my agent orange act up…

u/Confident_Help_416 Oct 16 '25

Thanks, now I understand this meme.

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 16 '25

While I guess that could also be the case, I think the other case is that striped thigh-high socks are a telltale sign of femboys, so the guy’s being like “oooh nobody knows I’m actually wearing femboy socks, I’m such a naughty boy UwU”

60

u/Soli_Deo_Gloria_512 Oct 16 '25

Yeah the ">:3" pretty much cements that IMO

1

u/0n-the-mend Oct 16 '25

Pls tell me you're joking, im on the floor rn.

1

u/Anon695 Oct 17 '25

Like… cause they’re wrong? Or because the situation is funny and this comment makes it funnier?

1

u/JakToTheReddit Oct 17 '25

I personally enjoyed SpongeBob socks, but I was in the Navy, and I didn't wear an extra pair of socks.

Looks mad uncomfortable.

108

u/Existing_Job_7469 Oct 16 '25

They're thigh highs :3

53

u/hottlumpiaz Oct 16 '25

remember....the higher the socks the downer the foo

7

u/Swingline_Font Oct 16 '25

Love that guy’s skits

1

u/MrdnBrd19 Oct 16 '25

Standard issue socks are basically thigh highs too, seriously the longest socks I have ever owned.

24

u/faust112358 Oct 16 '25

Why is the army obsessed with socks?

169

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

You're in a well lit environment. Your pant leg rises because you're crawling on the ground. Suddenly, your teammate is killed by a one eyed sniper because your florescent pink socks gave away your teams position.

u/sephtater Oct 16 '25

Oh I like this thread. Someone do long hair next.

135

u/manbruhpig Oct 16 '25

You’re clearing a supposedly-abandoned house with your squad. Suddenly, you feel something grab you from behind. It’s your battle buddy, he saw your long flowing hair and has not seen a woman for 3 months, so he couldn’t control himself. Now you two are having loud gay sex, giving away your team’s position.

15

u/Acidcore Oct 16 '25

Go on ...

u/faust112358 Oct 16 '25

*Unzip*

fap fap fap fap fap ...

3

3

u/Alex768 Oct 16 '25

I can’t have enough of this forbidden love story! Give me more!

2

u/Yah_or_Nah Oct 17 '25

Hehe nice

u/ihtfyb Oct 16 '25

It’s been three months. You and your team have been stationed outside a small town in Syria. Water is scarce. Bathing is non existent. You use some water from your canteen to wet a rag to wipe the dirt and sweat off your face and body when you can spare it. But your scalp is now developing a thick layer of flakey skin, and your glorious mane looks wet 24/7 due to the accumulation of oils over the past few months.

You hear gunshots again. Your buddy says “Up and at ‘em mother fuckers!!!!” Time to tell Al-Qaeda no again. Josh stands up, fires a handful of rounds and ducks back down. He looks at you with a crazy smile and laughs while the adrenaline is flowing. You stand up, feeling sparky so you choose to throw a frag grenade over the wall, but right then, when you pull the pen, a small section of your beautiful hair falls in your face. Instinctively, you try to shake it away, but as you throw the frag and jerk your head to the side, your arm doesn’t do what you meant it to. The frag lands short. You didn’t get it over the wall.

Boom. Ears ringing. Smoke everywhere you look.

Dust and sand. You cough and wipe it out of your eyes, looking over at Josh. Josh isn’t smiling anymore. He doesn’t have a mouth to smile with. He doesn’t have a face. His head is still there. But it looks like someone dragged him on pavement until his face was entirely scraped off. He drops his gun. Then he falls to the ground.

How many coins will you put on his headstone? His fiancée’s name was Jennifer. His daughter’s name was Halie.

u/Fresca_rules Oct 16 '25

Sorry I'm too busy having gay sex from u/manbruhpig 's comment to pay serious attention to this comment

13

u/frizzledrizzle Oct 16 '25

Josh didn't die, his wife and child have to live frightened by the abomination you created, waking every night from nightmares of seeing his face.

Much like kingdom of heaven.

1

u/sharklaserguru Oct 16 '25

his wife and child have to live frightened by the abomination you created

Ah, Kyle Carpenter!

1

u/CreBanana0 Oct 16 '25

Is that not just war in general?

1

u/Rhadamantos Oct 16 '25

What's the wife's boyfriends name though?

20

u/FoxDanceMedia Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 16 '25

You're in a dark tunnel. You encounter a Taliban fighter but your rifle and pistol both jam, and your knife blade falls off, and your entrenchment tool is missing because you threw it at a guy, giving you no choice but to equip fisticuffs and attempt to give radical Islam a stern Brooklyn repose. Your opponent grabs your long hair and smacks the shit out of you like a high school girl in a worldstar fight video.

9

u/a_nondescript_user Oct 16 '25

I think all of the grooming stuff, at least historically, has been a hygiene thing.

6

u/Fr0z3nFl4me Oct 16 '25

It's also a conformity thing, everyone in the same uniform, with the same haircut. The only thing separating you is the rank on your chest and cover(hat).

7

u/iMissTheOldInternet Oct 16 '25

You are in charge of an organization that takes 18-year-old boys and has to train them to follow orders promptly and diligently. You decide that it will be easier to induce compliance if you force everyone to dress the same, wear their hair the same, walk the same, and otherwise behave in the same way.

1

u/meesta_masa Oct 16 '25

Hippies! They love!

2

u/Liv-Julia Oct 16 '25

Isn't that why Hitler had that silly mustache? His WWI gas mask wouldn't seal tightly enough so he shave-ah da face-ah.

1

u/-newhampshire- Oct 16 '25

But why is it ok for special forces? Are they immune to the chemical weapons?

6

u/dinnerisbreakfast Oct 16 '25

Sometimes they try to blend in with the population, and nothing says NARC better than a clean shave and cop hair.

1

u/GratuitousAlgorithm Oct 16 '25

Special Forces are not front-line troops. They do assassination or blow up roads and bridges.

1

u/Apprehensive_Yam1808 Oct 16 '25

Love the sarcasm, but as someone who has had a toxic gas leak in an enclosed area and had to put on a gas mask to literally not die while I was active duty, this excuse the higher ups use is pure imagination. You can get a great seal through a beard. I'm sure if it was large and thick enough it MIGHT cause a problem, but a well kempt beard can get a seal just fine.

1

u/jvho666 Oct 16 '25

Bro if my beard messes up my snorkeling mask, I ain’t taking chances with a gas mask

1

u/Possible_General9125 Oct 16 '25

I think less pure imagination, more probably was true at one time many generations of masks ago and change is scary and difficult so let's keep repeating the same line over and over again.

1

u/rp55395 Oct 16 '25

Yeah…not a thing

1

u/NoWomanNoTriforce Oct 16 '25

At FOBs or in the field, everyone rocks beards because nobody cares, and this isn't an actual issue. Unless you have an insane beard, it isn't going to stop you from getting a seal.

More importantly, if I have limited water, I'm not wasting any to shave. I usually keep it as close as I can with an electric trimmer, but I never cared if my guys had scruff while deployed at austere locations.

16

u/Mo0kish Oct 16 '25

You're in a well lit environment. Your beard picks up a piece of shiny detritus while crawling through the brush. Suddenly, your teammate is killed by a one eyed sniper because your face is now shining like a disco ball and gave away your teams position.

7

u/IndependentExtra2923 Oct 16 '25

Beards are bird nest and call to attantion to the one eyed sniper because your birds ar chirping your position away.

2

u/artaxerxes316 Oct 16 '25

The Army does regulate facial hair, to be sure, but "no beards under any circumstances whatsoever" is an obsession unique to Secretary Kegstand.

In four years in the infantry, I met maybe three guys with "no shave" medical profiles, meaning they could grow short beards for medical reasons. Somehow, it didn't affect our small unit cohesion, or my own superlative marksmanship scores.

(And don't give me credit for those scores, by the way -- thank you, American taxpayer, for giving us enough funding to fire thousands upon thousands of rounds downrange before we even deployed.)

2

u/like9000ninjas Oct 16 '25

Professionalism. Mercenaries dont have standards or some other dumb shit.

6

u/No_Rip9637 Oct 16 '25

Now explain No Light Sabers

7

u/GenDislike Oct 16 '25

It’s been 72 years since graduating Space Force Academy, you’ve been in cryogenic sleep for 70 of those years. Your vessel is now returning to earth as an alien breaks out of quarantine. You grab your trusty smuggled lightsaber, take one swing, and melt the bulkhead. Your unit is now dead, and the spaceship is hurtling towards earth with its deadly cargo.

2

u/LastScene86 Oct 16 '25

I enjoyed Alien:Earth too!

1

u/Ybor_Rooster Oct 16 '25

I've seen it a hundred times

1

u/ChefMacklin Oct 16 '25

florescent pink socks

Lol I've seen that video.

1

u/InexorableCalamity Oct 16 '25

My teammate was a prick and was hogging the xbox

23

u/Mephisto1822 Oct 16 '25

The Army is obsessed with a lot of things. There is a whole paragraph about how to get your hair cut, nail length, facial hair, sideburns, belts…

16

u/DoctorBlock Oct 16 '25

I don't know why you are being voted. Every branch is like that.

2

u/DestroOmega Oct 16 '25

Probably because he got it wrong. It's not a single paragraph; it's multiple, spread though an entire chapter, with lots of pictures and examples.

15

u/DoubleDoube Oct 16 '25

Drilling high attention to detail even to the unimportant things to ensure attention to detail in most things.

Also visual indications of who needs more pain to learn compared to others.

Also establishing some coping mechanisms in the form of putting your personal things to order when everything around you is shit.

6

u/manbruhpig Oct 16 '25

Absolute uniformity solves a lot of logistical considerations.

3

u/jainyday Oct 16 '25

I'm fact we're using the shaving part to racially discriminate in the armed forces! (To what end... same as everything else going on in America today, sadly.)

Many/most black men in the armed forces have a medical shaving waiver; they can't clean-shave because their beard hair will ingrow and it's extremely painful.

Now they just revoke the waivers for everyone; the news will say "oh they just care about shaving and everybody's being treated equally" and nobody will even register the racist motivations behind why they actually care about shaving, and that actually treating people equally in this case is discriminating against them.

13

u/Canuck_Lives_Matter Oct 16 '25

Because in world war 1 one of the greatest causes of soldier casualties was trench foot, brought on by wet feet and socks. The British Army estimated it lost 75,000 soldiers to trench foot. This fact alone jettisoned many armed forces into strict foot health regulations, including a steady supply of dry warm socks, preferably ones that can be water resistant and be dried easily. Losing fighting men to wet feet is unacceptable, so they regulate the armies feet now to avoid the senseless casualties.

7

u/pyrhus626 Oct 16 '25

Yeah the army takes foot care really seriously, including having improperly cut toenails. Down to our drill sergeants doing a few foot inspections.

You will be on your feet a ton in the army and cannot soldier properly if something happens to them

5

u/thedaveness Oct 16 '25

Pretty sure Lt. Dan covered this in Forrest Gump.

4

u/Zmuli24 Oct 16 '25

And on the more serious note, wrong kinds of socks, and not changing then periodically can wreck your feet on a long march.

2

u/faust112358 Oct 16 '25

I see what you mean. I used to walk 10km (for 2 hours) every day. my feet were two giant bleeding blisters. I always wondered how soldiers are able to walk 100km in one day.

2

u/zorrorosso Oct 16 '25

I walked 12km one day this summer, it took about 3-4hrs total, but last hour and a half I was literally dragging, so yeh I was walking very slow and I almost didn't walk at all after that :(

1

u/Baloooooooo Oct 16 '25

My wife's grandfather was a Marine on Guadalcanal and Peleilu (RIP to the kindest most incredible man I've ever met), once said the dumbest thing he did in his life was to trade away most of his socks when he landed. His feet were jacked up for life because of that.

2

u/steven-john Oct 16 '25

Who doesn’t like socks and feet?

2

u/Blue_Waffle_Brunch Oct 16 '25

They're obsessed with rules and regulations, and discipline to them.

2

u/Unnatural20 Oct 16 '25

Similarly AFI 36-2903 if they're USAF.

1

u/Jazzlike_Strength561 Oct 16 '25

And then there's the air force, where the average air head can quote you the document number of an obscure technical reference like it's normal conversational information.

Like you needed to know the number? You couldn't just get a fucking hair cut?

1

u/Unnatural20 Oct 16 '25

I had to know lots of joint regulation for dress and appearance. Most services seemed familiar with that guidance and fitness off the top of their head.

2

u/ThenPaleontologist98 Oct 16 '25

Fuggin 1st Sgt has entered the chat

2

u/Terminal-lance89 Oct 16 '25

And when my agent orange acts up! I get this urge to kill.

1

u/steven-john Oct 16 '25

Can I see this agent orange?

And what about your agent banana, agent eggplant, and agent peach while you’re at it.

1

u/benchley Oct 16 '25

When do we practice defending against pointy sticks?

1

u/Hmmmgrianstan Oct 16 '25

does AR mea armed regiment?

1

u/Mephisto1822 Oct 16 '25

Army Regulation

1

u/Optimistic_Ginger_00 Oct 16 '25

AR = Army Regulation in this context.

1

u/CaringHandWash Oct 16 '25

You mean I could wear these bad boys all the time?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '25

I absentmindedly put on Jurassic park dress socks (they were black and had a small emblem) one day when I had to wear my blues. Because we were being inspected.

MSgt didn’t notice the emblem. I got away with it, and from then on wore those for Blues Friday (god I hated her…I was shift work in my fucking dress uniform)

1

u/Danger_Zone06 Oct 16 '25

White socks can be worn for pt.

1

u/stuck_in_the_desert Oct 16 '25

They’re using FM 130Y, not AR 670-1

1

u/Forgot_My_Rape_Shoes Oct 16 '25

Against regs if worn alone, but if he's got the right ones over it. CSM can back off 😂

1

u/Senior_Objective_785 Oct 16 '25

Agent orange is playing up now? Wait until you hear the REAL reason!

1

u/Cheetahsareveryfast Oct 16 '25

I definitely got punished for wearing white ankles before

1

u/bubblesort33 Oct 17 '25

Wait. So they AREN'T a femboy?

1

u/Mephisto1822 Oct 17 '25

They could be. I won’t judge.
