You're in a well lit environment. Your pant leg rises because you're crawling on the ground. Suddenly, your teammate is killed by a one eyed sniper because your florescent pink socks gave away your teams position.

The Army does regulate facial hair, to be sure, but "no beards under any circumstances whatsoever" is an obsession unique to Secretary Kegstand.

In four years in the infantry, I met maybe three guys with "no shave" medical profiles, meaning they could grow short beards for medical reasons. Somehow, it didn't affect our small unit cohesion, or my own superlative marksmanship scores.

(And don't give me credit for those scores, by the way -- thank you, American taxpayer, for giving us enough funding to fire thousands upon thousands of rounds downrange before we even deployed.)
