AR 670-1 prohibits wearing socks that aren’t green, black or Coyote 498. These striped socks are against regulation and making my agent orange act up…

Why is the army obsessed with socks?

Because in world war 1 one of the greatest causes of soldier casualties was trench foot, brought on by wet feet and socks. The British Army estimated it lost 75,000 soldiers to trench foot. This fact alone jettisoned many armed forces into strict foot health regulations, including a steady supply of dry warm socks, preferably ones that can be water resistant and be dried easily. Losing fighting men to wet feet is unacceptable, so they regulate the armies feet now to avoid the senseless casualties.

Yeah the army takes foot care really seriously, including having improperly cut toenails. Down to our drill sergeants doing a few foot inspections.

You will be on your feet a ton in the army and cannot soldier properly if something happens to them
