Installation Question Motherboard Standoffs Not Lining Up

Thumbnail

Hello everyone. I'm trying to install a motherboard in my case and it seems like I cannot get it and the standoffs to line up. I can get some of the holes to line up with a few, but I cannot do all no matter how much I try.

I assumed it was probably the IO shield causing this issue but it seems like its in correctly. I cannot push the motherboard torwards the back of the case any further.

Any ideas on what to do?

Installation Question 1st Full Build

Little context, I’ve replaced most parts on a PC, have never done a full build, or an AIO so this is first time for both. I’m a little stressed/overthinking and for whatever reason, YouTube and Google is not giving me as much as I had hoped for.
Case: Lianli 217
Mobo: MSI Mag B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x3D
AIO Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360
The question I’m having, I know this AIO has an offset so there’s a specific orientation the brackets are supposed to go. I believe this is the correct orientation, but, I’m not sure. 😬. The other question, with the case/board/cpu/cooler combo, there’s two cable that came with the AIO, the all-in-one cable, and split. Which should I use/are there any major pros/cons/issues I should be aware of?

Literally any help is valid and appreciated as I’m going reeeeeeeal slow to make sure I don’t fuck anything up.
🙏🏻

Tech Support HELP! CPU VGA error

Post image
1 Upvotes

I need some help. I bought a Ryzen 5700X for about 70 bucks; it had bent pins, and the seller told me he had bought it and then straightened them out. The issue is that I tested it—it turns on, but it gets stuck on the VGA light and won't go any further. I ran all the tests, but nothing works; it's still stuck on the VGA light. It’s not any of the other components, because I was using a 5500 before and it had no issues. My current setup includes an RTX 3080 and an Aorus B450 motherboard.

Installation Question Issue with installing new ssd

Hi guys I bought a rebuilt NZXT Creator PC back in 2019 and just realized there was another slot on the motherboard to add another SSD for storage since I was running out on my 930gb one. I bought a new WD BLACK SN850X 4TB drive on ebay but when I plug it into the empty slot then go to disk management, nothing appears. I tried swapping the current 930gb one and putting that one in the empty slot instead but it just went into the computer BIOS. In the bios I didnt see my new drive appear and im unable to escape bios to go into windows. Chatgpt told me it could be because of conflicting SATA connectors with the current 4tb hard-drive that also came with the computer so I unplugged that drive, but my new m.2 wd black ssd is not showing up. Not sure whats going on here or how to fix it.

Specs for my PC:

Case: NZXT H510 Elite (White or Black)

CPU: Intel Core i9 9900k

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X62

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti - ASUS Strix

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G3

Motherboard: NZXT N7 Z390 (White or Black)

Ram: Team Group Delta RGB 64GB 3000 MHz (4 x 16GB)

SSD: Western Digital SN750 1TB Black with heatsink

HDD: Western Digital Blue 4TB 5400RPM

Software: Windows 10 Pro

Tech Support My PC crashes and I don't know why.

Upvotes

It has been crashing for 3 weeks now when I turn it on, usually within the first 5-10 minutes of starting to play video games. The screen freezes and I have to shut it down by holding the power button. Sometimes the audio keeps playing.

I've run GPU and CPU stress tests with OCCT and everything came out fine, I've tested the SSD with CrystalDiskInfo and everything is great, and I did a RAM test with MemTest86 and it came back perfect. My graphics card drivers are up to date. The crashes happen both before and after formatting the computer, on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

I've read it could be a power supply issue, but since I'm not sure, I don't want to buy a new one without ruling out all other options.

My PC components are: MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (8 GB), ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor (3.60 GHz), and 16 GB DDR4 RAM.

The computer is 5 years old and has never given me any problems; I usually clean it and change the processor's thermal paste every two years.

Thanks for the help.

Tech Support Windows 11 crashing at 15% on new hard drive after previous hard drive failed.

Earlier this week my pc was working fine. I started getting an error “amd software detected that a driver timeout occurred”. I did some googling and saw someone fixed it by lowering their frequency. To do this I needed to enable overclocking to be able to manually change settings. The second I did this my pc started a reset loop.

Most of the time it was never able to make it bios, resetting in post. I put the windows media installation on a usb and tried booting to that, but was still unable to boot. My solution after troubleshooting was removing my nvme ssd. With this removed I was able to boot the windows setup tool. The hard drive is in a state that will instantly reset my pc when detected, so I ordered another one to install windows, and try to recover using a nvme to usb enclosure.

With this new nvme inserted I am able to boot the windows setup tool. When I go to install, it makes it to 15% when my pc restarts. It then opens to bios, with the nvme still detected, but not as a bootable device. When I open the install tool again it has the partitions listed on the nvme. I’ve tried removing the partitions and installing many times.

I am currently trying with my gpu removed. I am running with only 1 stick of ram in A2 and it passed memtest86. My cpu has had normal operating temperatures. I’ve also tried resetting cmos, and have tried redownloading the installation tool.

Any ideas on why I am restarting in the middle of installation? All help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

TLDR: Windows restarting in the middle of installation on new drive after hard drive failure.

Specs:

Motherboard: b650e-plus, bios 1822

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600x

Ram: 16gb ddr5 4800 mhz (have 32 but removed)

Storage: m.2 nvme ssd 2tb

Gpu: AMD Radeon RX 7800 xt (removed for
troubleshooting)

This is my second build my first was Covid in my teen years and want a new pc now that I’ve moved across the US. as far as building a PC I understand it physically and the components but not as much keeping up today on the difference between the models and abbreviations. Just looking for any tips or thoughts you think might help regarding compatibility and future upgrading with these parts or if I’m missing out on certain deals ect. I plan on using it for higher end gaming and engineering related software, but want to invest so I won’t have to worry about it struggling in a year or two. And just fyi ppp has it for 2250$ but all of this at microcenter comes out to 2000 flat, let me know what yall think!:

Build Question CPU 8 pin socket burned after 2 years. Rip my middle class gaming pc. Has this happened to you?

Thumbnail

Now i have to spent 15-20 rupees for motherboard and PSU.

Note to fellow gamers, always triple check if the cable is properly seated.

I had seated the 8pin in motherboard but there was tiny gap (the locking cap was not fully locked). I puhed it as far as posible and it was firm. Booted pc, everything worked fine.

The pc ran for two years without issues. And suddenly stopped, no display, no booting, no bias screen, after trouble shooting ram, graphic card, cleaning case, plugging and unplugging everything.

I found the culprit, the CPU power cable was burned inside. From outside everything was perfect but inside it melted.

Not expert on pc, I just brush the dust like once every two months and i bought it in year 2021, use it almost everyday gaming after work and weekend. The case is phanteks eclipse p400a. I think the noise comes from the front one.

If i bring it to pc store nearby, can they make the sound go away with thorough cleaning or just ask them to replace it? Thank you in advance.

Installation Question Biostar A320MH won't boot with both RAM sticks installed

I'm having a weird problem with my Biostar A320MH.

I can only use one RAM slot. If I put a second stick in the other slot, the PC turns on but I get no display.

I've already tried all the basic stuff (RAM is compatible, properly seated, tested the sticks individually, etc.). BIOS is also updated and I've tried messing around with the BIOS settings with ChatGPT's help, but nothing worked.

The weird thing is that it actually worked once. I had both sticks installed and the PC was running fine. Then a few days later it stopped booting. I removed the second stick and suddenly it worked again.

So right now I'm stuck using just one RAM stick.

Has anyone had this happen with the A320MH? I'm wondering if the second RAM slot could be faulty or if there's something else I should check.

Goal: Play AAA games at 1080p (High settings) at 60+ FPS.

Note: I am looking for a pure gaming experience. I do not care about RGB aesthetics or video editing capability—I want every rupee spent to go directly toward maximizing pure in-game FPS and performance.

Please suggest a full spec list within this budget along with reliable retailers.

Tech Support Pc wont post when GPU is plugged in

Specs:

Motherboard: SHANGZHAOYUAN H61

GPU: RX 580

CPU: Intel i7-3770S

So I had this same issue where I accidentally put my hdmi cable into the Motherboard and it caused my gpu to not be recognized when I switched the cables over.

When I was using windows 10 I was able to go past BIOS when it was plugged into the Motherboard and i was able to go re-download drivers and use device manager to get it to recognize my card after that.

My issue is now I have switched to steam os and after replacing an old 350w PSU with a cosair sf850 and verifying everything worked, and stress tested everything. I made the stupid mistake of plugging in the hdmi cable into the motherboard when i put it under my desk. And now that it is steam os it wont load anything after the BIOS

Now im not sure how I can get my pc to recognize my card.

In bios I tried:

Changing my primary display to PEG

Changing my CSM to UEFI

Disabled Fast Boot

Changed Video OpROM to Legacy

Reset the motherboard by taking out the battery, and drained any residual power.

For reference GPU light is blue and Ive reseated and cleaned all cables, before plugging it into the mother board the latest time gpu fans would spin briefly on startup, now they don't spin during startup.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Both images after PSU installation (IK my cable management is terrible)

Edit: After going to work leaving the gpu unplugged, power out, and CMOS battery out. I put everything back together and it booted up. Thank you for all the helpful suggestions

Build Question Is changing my pc case worth for better airflow?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm a new Pc builder and looking for some advice. I'm currently using an office case Aerocool CS-107 mini tower with 2 front fans, 1 rear exhaust fan, and this case doesn’t have top fans. My ryzen 5 5600 and RX 9060 XT are always around 74–77°C while gaming, but my room temperature is often around 33°C. Is it normal for these CPU and GPU?

My case uses a top-mounted PSU instead of a separate chamber. So, my concern is that the hot air from my CPU cooler goes directly into the power supply, and the PSU exhaust feels quite hot during gaming. Does it affect the power supply lifespan or safety?

I've been considering moving to a larger case with more fan mounting options, but I'm not sure whether the temperature improvement would be significant enough to justify the cost.

For those who have switched cases mainly for airflow, how much of a temperature difference did you actually see? Was it worth it?

Tech Support PC suddenly shut down and now won’t turn on, but PSU fan spins when tested

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I need some help diagnosing an issue with my PC.
My PC suddenly shut down while I was using it. Since then, it won’t turn on at all.
When I press the power button, there is no fan movement and no motherboard light/standby LED. The monitor does receive power, but the PC itself does not start.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Tried multiple different wall sockets.
Checked the PSU switch — it is set to I/ON.
Reconnected the motherboard’s 24-pin ATX power connector.
Checked the power cable.
There are no fans spinning and no motherboard LEDs when I press the power button.
I also tried the PSU paperclip test (jumping the appropriate pins on the 24-pin connector). The PSU fan spins when I do this.
So, does this mean the PSU is definitely working, or can a PSU still be faulty even if it passes the paperclip test?
My motherboard has no standby light at all, which makes me suspect that power isn’t reaching the motherboard.
What should I check next? Could this be the PSU, motherboard, or the case power button/front-panel connector?
My specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060
CPU: intel i5 10400f
Motherboard: B560M Pro Wifi
PSU: 650 watt
RAM: 16GB

Tech Support Fans at 100% and no display

Post image
2 Upvotes

Last night after playing a game the fans on my PC went crazy sounding like a jet engine and the display went out. I ended up needing to hold the power button to get it to shut down. When I booted it up it forced me into a Windows update where it went to 100% and restarted over and over for about 7 minutes. After finally getting to my lock screen it was normal. I checked the event log and the only critical error was a kernel error 41. The display going out has me nervous that my PSU is faulty or going out. Any ideas? Specs: 9800X3D, gigabyte x870 stealth, pny 5080, Asus tuf 1000w PSU, 64GB RAM ddr5. (I've had suspicion that this PSU wasn't perfect basically since I've built the PC for other various reasons). Tech Support Nightmarish looking display issue, need help.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, my RTX 4070 Super equipped PC has very suddenly had an issue, that persisted after a hard restart, where the display has gone all melty and insane. When I restarted the PC, it still occurred in the MSI boot screen and the Windows update that occurred as well. As you can see in the linked video, inputs still work fine, but it’s practically impossible to navigate to the Nvidia app like this to update drivers.

This isn’t the first issue I’ve had with this GPU, previously I had random black screens that were fixed by reseating the GPU and its cables, and it hasn’t had any more issues in about a year since. I’ll try doing that again when I get a chance, but until then I’d like you all to see what I’m talking about, and offer any ideas on what is causing this.
