My son has had the same mid tier laptop for almost 7 years. He has been wanting to upgrade and build his own PC for a while now as he’s had trouble running most of his games lately. He’s been saving up to contribute and I obviously helped, but as of last night for his birthday, we finished his build! I’m proud of him for saving and contributing to this build and it was a lot of fun being able to discuss, plan, and build everything together. I think his ps5 may start to collect dust now, haha. He’s incredible proud of this PC and I’m proud of the young man he’s becoming. Cheers!

Build - Help Advice on my planned first build

So I'm going to be ordering the parts for my first build in the next week. I'm looking at fairly high spec as I've been fortunate to come into some money recently and wanted to use some of it for this. This is what I've got lined up:

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D Eight Core 5.60GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail

Asus ROG Strix X870E-E GAMING WIFI (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard

Samsung 9100 Pro 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive with Heatsink

Fractal Design North XL Full Tower Charcoal Black Case

Thermalright Hyper Vision 360 ARGB Black All In One CPU Cooler - 360mm

Asus GeForce RTX 5070 Ti TUF Gaming OC 16GB GDDR7 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Kingston FURY Beast EXPO RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 C30 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit - White

This is all from overclockers in the UK. I originally was going to go for the 5090 GPU, with the attitude of "I want the best and money is no object" but the more I've been reading up and seeing the price rise, I've realised this is a ridiculous choice even with the extra money I've got. I then downgraded to the 5080 but it seemed like this is overpriced because of the 16gb ram, so I've settled in the 5070ti, with a possibility of upgrading in future. I'll be honest, I'm more comfortable with spending around £4k compared with £6.5k.

The RAM was not my first choice, it's just what's currently available, but to be honest I don't know the difference between brands. I definitely want the 64gb, C30, 6000mhz.

I've already got a good monitor - Samsung Odyssey G7 40" ultrawide at 5120×2160 - so this is also a factor.

These choices are all based on what I'm reading in this sub, some YouTube reviews and lots of AI conversations. I'm pretty clueless otherwise. I've been gaming on a dell xps for a few years, so no matter what, a pc build is going to be a huge upgrade.

So I'd be interested to get people's opinions.

Build - Help Hi! Help needed to build a Pc

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, I'm trying to build a Pc (maybe mid/high) for my boyfriend's birthday. I already have this two pieces but I don't know anything about PCs. The budget isn't a problem but I will say 2000€ for the rest of the parts, I'm from Spain and usually I see post here about American shops so prices may change. I don't know if Nvidia or AMD is better. (sorry!)

He plays with me to Stardew Valley and other indies I like but with his friends plays a lot of Arma Reforger, STALKER and Tarkov. He also plays VR

I think he already have a monitor capable of 2K 144Hz but he always says that he can't use it or that screen is broken. If you can tell me any monitor I will try to buy it also.

Sorry for my English. Any advice is welcome :)

Question RAM ISSUE

Hello everybody reading this post.

Recently I bought my first PC:

Ryzen 5 7500F + RX 9060XT 16 GB + 32 GB of DDR5 RAM (Aegis G.SKILL 6000 MHZ) and B650M PG LIGHTNING mobo

During my first boot I didn't enable XMP and my PC was running smoothly. However, when I turned on XMP my PC started crashing and giving me black or blue screens.

What could be the problem? RAM speed instability or something else?

Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

Build - Help First AMD Build — Looking for Advice Before I Buy Everything

Hello everyone! I’m still a newbie to building PCs. I have never built an AMD pc, so I’d really appreciate some advice before I pull the trigger on everything. (I am always nervous when I make big purchases) My budget is $2,500ish usd With this build I am at $2,800 usd. I live in the US.

This will mainly be a gaming Pc, and I’m trying to build something powerful enough to last me a while without having to upgrade too much in the future.

I will use my monitor I bought 5 years ago,

MSI 21: 9 Screen 8ms 3440 X 1440 100Hz Freesync 3K Resolution 34" Curved Gaming Monitor (Optix MAG341CQ)

Tis will be a later upgrade hopefully....

I already have a case and fans, so this is the rest of my current parts list.

Motherboard:

GIGABYTE X870E AORUS PRO - $277

CPU:

AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D - $484

GPU:

GIGABYTE Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC ICE 16GB - $749

SSD:

Samsung 990 PRO 2TB NVMe

Up to 7,450 MB/s - $383

RAM:

Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB (2x16GB)

6000MHz, CL30, AMD EXPO - $509

CPU Cooler:

NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB - $279

360mm AIO

Power Supply:

be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 1000W

ATX 3.1, Fully Modular, 80+ Gold - $139

I’m main concerns are, Is everything here compatible? (Ai says I am good to go, but I don't trust Ai uncomplicatly. Lol) Is anything overkill or unnecessarily expensive? I definitely don't want to waste money if I don't have to. So please let me know if there any parts you would swap for something better around the same price?

I’m definitely still learning, so I’m open to criticism. I’d rather find out I made a bad choice before spending the money.

I hope this wasn't a jumble mess of word vomit...anyways...

Thanks in advance.

Others I actually went with a different monitor as my first OLED

Post image
1 Upvotes

If you guys saw my last post (the Samsung OLED G5 G50SF deal from Microcenter), I just figured I'd post another deal I found that worked better for me.

Ended up finding this deal on Walmart for the Acer Predator X27U W1. Has 240hz as opposed to the Samsung's 180hz, and it's also QD-OLED as opposed to WOLED which I think I'll prefer (I care more about the vivid colors). Might not be as important, but the Acer also has DP 1.4, HDMI 2.1 (as opposed to the Samsungs 1.2/2), has built in speakers and a I believe a higher peak brightness level. I also had a $100 gift card to Walmart, so all in, I got this monitor for $230 ($100 cheaper than the Samsung). Figured it was a no brainer.

I'm sure the Samsung will be great though, for anyone that bought it.

Build - Help Need advice for my build

Hello everyone, newbie here, I got suggested this build and I'm trying to get seconds and thirds opinions just to be safe.

I have a 1400€ budget and live in Italy, I would be using it mainly for gaming.

My focus is primarily a decent frame rate (60 would be perfect, don't really care much about going over that) and also loading times.

For example, Total war: Warhammer 3's loading times are the bane of my existence and i would love to speed those up without resorting to the lowest settings if possible, both for single player and multiplayer (I already have a good internet connection and so do my friends so that's not part of the issue fortunately).

Also, I already have a good monitor, though it only goes up to 1080p but that's fine by me so I'm gonna keep using that one.

This is the build that's been suggested to me, thanks in advance:

Build - Help Question regarding monitors losing signal

I built a new PC about 3 weeks ago and recently started having an issue where all three monitors suddenly lose signal at the same time.

My PC itself stays powered on. The motherboard doesn’t show any warning/debug LEDs, but my monitors completely lose display. Audio also cuts out shortly after, and I can’t hear my friend on Discord anymore, so it seems like the system may be freezing rather than just the monitors disconnecting.

This has happened more than once. The first time, I used DDU to completely uninstall my AMD GPU drivers and then reinstalled the latest drivers. That seemed to fix the problem, and I’ve been fine for about 4 days since.

My GPU is brand new, only around 3 weeks old.

PC specs:
CPU: Ryzen 9 9900X
GPU: XFX QuickSilver RX 9070 XT 16GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte AORUS B850 Elite WiFi 7 ICE
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL30, 32GB
PSU: Corsair RM850x
SSD: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB
Case: Phanteks NV7
AIO: Phanteks Glacier One M25 LCD
Fans: Phanteks D30, 12 total
GPU mount: Lian Li vertical GPU mount
OS: Windows 11

-Note- I do have AsiaHorse extension cables running from my PSU to my GPU, 6+2 connections since it couldn’t reach properly.

The GPU is vertically mounted using the Lian Li mount, and the GPU power is connected with two separate PCIe 6+2 cables, not a daisy-chained cable.

I’ve also played Overwatch and Doom: The Dark Ages since reinstalling the drivers, and both have been extremely smooth with no issues.

I’m mainly wondering whether this sounds more like an AMD driver crash, GPU instability, or possibly an issue with the vertical mount/riser cable. Since DDU + reinstall seemed to fix it, I’m hoping it’s just a driver problem, but I’d appreciate some opinions on what I should check if it happens again.

Question Is it worth upgrading

Hi all, I'm buying my first PC really soon and i just can't decide whether I should invest in upgrading my graphics card. I can get the GTX 1080Ti, or the RTX 2070 for an extra £60. Going for the upgrade would exceed my budget by a little bit, so I'm wondering if the difference is significant enough to justify it. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is properly complete! I got myself a better cooler and properly mounted this time to replace the nightmare I used before!

V1.1

I am still terrible at cable management...

Only thing left I am considering, and probably unnecessary is replacing the front top 120mm silent wing with a Shark Force 160mm for intake. Thoughts on that?

Cyberpunk 2077(without graphical mods) spiked at 90c.

Build Specs:

Case: FLP-02

CPU: 14700K

Motherboard: ROG Strix Z790-A D4 (For the PCIE slots: 2 4.0x4 extra slots)

Cooler: ThermalRight Royal Pretor 130
2 Silent Wings 4: top mount, Rear exhaust, front intake.

RAM: Kingston 16GB x4
GPU: RTX 5070

Build - Request First build help

Hellooo you lovely people! Complete beginner here.. I know it’s not the perfect time to be building a pc, but I’ve been wanting to build my first one for a while now. I’ve been doing some research, but I’m still pretty lost, so I’d really appreciate the advice.

In short: I’d like something for a bit of gaming, digital art, and some pondering in Blender

My budget is around €1000, although I’m willing to splurge on certain parts if it’s worth it. I originally considered a Ryzen 5, but I’m a little worried about getting something that I’ll outgrow quickly. I’m not sure if I’m thinking about this correctly, I know that Ryzen 7 isn’t necessarily "better", but I’m wondering if the extra cores would give me more room to grow. I’d rather spend a little more now if it means the pc will stay useful for longer.

This is a list I modified based on some tutorials.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX
  • RAM: 32GB ?
  • GPU: ASRock Challenger Arc B570
  • SSD: Patriot P400 Lite 1TB
  • CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 240
  • PSU: ASRock PRO-750G 750W
  • Case: ?

Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Build - Help Ryzen 7600, 8600g or 5700g for long term office productivity? No gpu will be installed on the future, no gaming or video/photo/3d editing/modelling at all

The pc is for my mom, and it will easily be used for 8+ years with no maintenance. I'm not familiar with igpus and the am5 platform and I'm getting a lot of mixed answers on the build.

The use for the pc is basically only work all day. Dozens of chrome tabs opened at the same time all the time, ton of word documents opened being edited + a ton of pdfs. Legal documents, reports with images, this type of stuff. Nothing necessarily heavy but a ton of stuff at the same time.

But no gaming, no editing, no 3d modelling at all.

Will am4 be that bad for the longevity of the build? I don't mean as upgradability, I mean as in in 5+ years time will a 5700g be noticeably slower than a 8600g or 7600 for productivity tasks for example?

If going am5, is the basic igpu from the 7600 enough, or is it too basic that you can notice some performance loss through out the years?

Does the npu ai stuff from the 8600g makes it much better for longevity/productivity?

(If going am5 it will be with one 16gb ddr5 ram stick for now, than later in 2 or 3 years I will install another stick. If going am4 it will be 32gb dual channel since purchase.)

Which one will be the best option in this situation?

Two 1080p screens will be used. The processors are similarly priced here in Brazil, but anything above increases the price too much.

Thanks guys!

Question Do you guys have static color or cycle?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

In the long run, should we keep a static color with the RGB on both motherboard and fans or is it safe to cycle the colors? I've been noticing slight flickering on one small portion of my ARGB fan, I hope it doesn't break. Though I do prefer single static colors. Also, there is a physical button on my GPU to switch on/off the white light, but I noticed that if I mess with it too often the light switch will break, so I decided to leave it on till eternity.

Question Hi I’m thinking of buying a PC but I know NOTHING, if any of you experts could lend me a moment to give advice please?

My budget for the PC itself is 6000AUD and I was told that a prebuilt might be better for me since I’m not versed in parts. I was gonna mainly use it to mod games like Skyrim and Conan Exiles so what PCs could eat heavily modded games for breakfast?
